A walkthrough of the ZX Spectrum game, Heavy on the Magick. All three exits are reached. From the recording originally sent to www.rzxarchive.co.uk/ #ZXSpectrum #RetroGaming #Walkthrough
my uncle who died of cancer in 1989 had this game and i inherited and wanted to sell it .i saw it goes for 15 bucks on ebay which makes me think then ill rather keep it as a memory of the uncle i never knew and it also made me think what amount of money would be worth that
this was my abosolute favorite game. I was obssessed with it. I couldn't figure it out... I only advanced to Practicus and found two exits.... then I progressed a little in early 1990s as I reloaded it... but still haven't found the last exit - also my version of the map was horrible...I couldn't figure out Asmodee.... in 2003 I checked the net for a new map and printed it! :D and I loaded the ZX emulator and finished the game completely - just like this dude - like a boss! I think I finished it in less time - like in some 40min.... Hey Amstrad players. I remember reading a detailed description of this game back in the days...and there was a dude rumbling about some character named "Picca" that you had to say to it "Picca, Love" LOL - I think the dude made that one up.... never saw it... Great game!
My father introduced me to this game and I still love it to this day. It is extremely underrated and although it released in 1986 it is still a classic!
May look like crap now,but this was an awesome game, very immersive (deep for its time) and original back then,at an early time, when Computer games were newly born and being developed without fancy studios and usually by one two or a bit later by a handfull of people !back then we just had to figure EVERYTHING out, when we usually had no instructions no multimedia and no CGI videos in games,we really had to use our minds more, but enjoyed the experience of travelling in various fantasy worlds
Realmasterorder - couldn't agree more. Considering the total memory available on the Speccy was less than a first-generation mobile phone, this game was absolutely staggering in its complexity - even now, looking back on it some of the puzzles are mind-bogglingly abstract. In a time when the internet was still a wet dream at DARPA, if you figured this out by yourself you were either a Dungeonmaster or a wizard yourself. I remember being blown away with its intricacy - you practically had to learn witchcraft yourself to remember all the correct charms to protect yourself from the powerful spirits you summoned and to get past the gateways and elemental. Top, top stuff - one of the most impressive games of all time.
@@frostmann7653 So True at that time the memory of machines like the Spectrum were 48K and later 128versions that was a LOT less memory than one High Res Photo ! its crazy what wonders the programmers managed to do with this amount of Memory and specs on that Machine !
Hell yeah. I had this game on the Amstrad CPC 464 and I was too young to work it out. I distinctly remember getting killed by a Wyvern over and over. What's odd though is that all these "hard" games from the '80s seem so simple and short now!
Little trivia - this was to be part one of a trilogy, sadly the other 2 games never made it past a mere thought process. Would be great to see this one remastered, or ported to the Next with a full colour overlay. :D
Great game..but most of the 'endings' back then weren't much than a few words usually, due to the limited space (41k) otherwise game content would have to be cut...
34:20... this is a bug in the Spectrum version of the game; it should be only the Phoenix that says "Laza to the Door". Ai should say "The Way to Paradise is Long".
I spent lots of time on this game when I was younger. I downloaded zxspin and the game and have been re-playing it. How do I get the " on the keyboard, like at 0:02:22 ?
What kind of graphics mode is that they used on this game? At least on the upper half of the screen - the grahics looks expanded somehow. And thank god for the developers used 2 colors only so one don't get the normal colour-clash that the speccy games were known to have. Animations are smooth and fast. A good game - one that could give the C64 a fair competition.
Fili PX Exactly. Sprites of Axil, Apex and all objects and mosters are zoomed x2 times. You can see original size of sprite in menu, where are Axil and table. Backgrounds are drawn in second manner, just look at the thin vertical lines. Moving sprites are trickily combined with masks, and in memory are in "sliced" form, check this i.imgur.com/N9hwGDY.png

I absolutely love the animation. That cape looks real. And the determination with which he walks is palpable.

+Realmasterorder Well said!
It looks AWESOME to me.

It looks awesome even by today standards :)

in those days i was amazed by them! didnt know it would take him that long though complete!
The manual for this alone is interesting.

I had this on a "magnificent seven" compilation cassette that was free on the cover of Your Sinclair magazine in 1991 I think, when I was 11.
Cool, old school, had this on the Amstrad

This Game - BEST !!!

I had this on the cpc464 and swore it was impossibe.
They must have spelled magic with a K in honour of Aleister Crowley and thelema
They did!
@@Sr19769p well that's pretty groovy

Ah interesting - wondered how you’d ever get to the answer long.
sometimes I regret that the development of computers has gone further.
Thanks.
Apparently if you do the right thing, you can complete this game in about 2 minutes.
Hold SHIFT and press 'p' should to the trick
I spent lots of time on this game when I was younger. I downloaded zxspin and the game and have been re-playing it. How do I get the " on the keyboard, like at 0:02:22 ?
Symbol-Shift and P.
By default ZXSpin maps the Control Key to Symbol-Shift.

Not a graphics mode. It's just every pixel is painted 2 times bigger.
Why would they do that? It does not save any CPU time? Perhaps saves a memory and one could use more space for game data?
Definitely. Sprites and background takes less space.

this game is great, i have no words
What happened at the end? Did the game really end? I don't understand.
The object of the game is to escape from the dungeon. He does this at the end of the video, and performs a little dance to celebrate!
@@rzxarchive I see. But no "congratulations", "game over" or anything else. I missed that. But the walkthrough was cool!
Community expansion pack please.
