i can remember seeing this in 1971, my freind Mike Misita was the tango dancer in the show, Such a wonderful idea for a musical can u believe this story of an old theater and the ghosts talking to the real people and visa versa. and the lyrics i could watch this show every day till the end of time..I bet i would make a great movie. Can u see the ghosts now?
@@piecesofme8531 My understanding is the set was grander in 1971. My understanding is one of the issues with the original production was it didn't make money because the weekly costs were higher than average. Ironically, the original that "struggled" with its' grander production ran for 15 months, while the less grand 2001 and 20011 productions made it to around a 5-month run at the most. The 80s West End revival was the longest-running "Follies" 644 performances to the original Broadway's 522, but Sondheim wrote a very different Loveland for that production. Have you seen/heard that one? Seems grand as well visually to me but very different than all 3 of the Broadway versions.
Yes, it's a little depressing seeing how everything has been dumbed down by less talented people: the set, the costumes and especially the choreograpy. All credit to the performers, though. And for those who have no idea what the original was like it seems to be fine.
I love watching the young versions of the leads FULL SPRINT offstage for their quick change
The curtain dropping to the floor like that is just genius
rest in peace Jan Maxwell
"swoon and DIEEE" best line reading in show? yes.
Brilliant!!! I feel blessed that I saw so many wonderful performers in this show. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime feeling!
Agree 100%. A night to remember

Wow. So was the set much more grand in 1971 than the set in the 2011 production? Which production had a more extravagant set?

ooo, please upload the god why dont you love me blues, and the road you didnt take!!
It was a nice try and better than no "Follies" at all, but the revival was just a musical. The original "Follies" was a legendary event.

Buddy is such a hypocrite...
Berating Ben for cheating with Sally when Buddy's been cheating on Sally himself for some time now...
Am I right?
MrCaptainA Thats the point lol
Okie, I'll upload it soon.
Thank you for posting. :) It is a cheap looking Loveland compared to the original.
Of course it is, you can’t afford to do musicals today as you could then.
