  • Even though Union Pacific has taken over Mopac units still are at the head of trains. We catch MKT and Mopac trains and get another chance to get the MP Detector 219.4 in operation.
    Enjoy!

Thank you so much for sharing your 1980's Mopac videos! In the 1980's, we didn't really understand how precious these images would be.

Love seeing that Non Dynamic Brake equipped GP 50! Like a straight pipe 454 Chevy ! Had not seen one since I saw a pair coming out of Laredo, Tx with a heavy manifest ! Called “Haulers” by the local Mopac crews! In Run 8 , literally screaming at about 30 mph!

I grew up in Sherman/Denison with both these railroads and the Frisco and Cotton Belt. I sure do miss them.

Love seeing those Mo-Pac and Katy units…reminds me of my childhood and watching trains with my dad while eating ice cream.

Those diesels were really pouring out the smoke - and pouring on the horsepower. A GP38 in the lead on that KATY freight. Seems like they can do anything well. I always liked the peculiar arrow stripes on the Missouri Pacific units. I miss how eclectic railroading was, though I still enjoy just as much today. You had all those different corporate identities, practices, and paint schemes.

All that area's all built up now. Traffic's still a nightmare on 377

I miss the MoPac, and I wish I'd had more exposure to the Katy and the Santa Fe growing up, but travel was very limited as a kid for me.

I know what you mean. I grew up at the extreme southern end of the Katy so I missed out on a lot.

Love their prime 990s and 920s mopac used. Too bad UP did away with them

Nope not even recognizable Keller, TX. Is an expensive part of the metroplex to live, very built up area now.
I wasn’t around when these videos were being filmed pretty neat to see stuff back then.
