I just repotted my pothos that was like 5 years old that wrapped around my living room. And I measured it and it a a couple feet short of 40 feet long! It was in a 8 inch pot and I upgraded it to a 12 inch pot since it’s roots were insane. The vines were so thick too!
Suzanne here, i do love pothos, i hate to admit how many i have, haha cause people freak out when they come to my house, anyhow around 50 or more, now i have 1100 sq foot house, and more than 350 plants , and more than 50 are pothos, my other passion are snake plants and about the same amount of those, plus my other fav, thanksgiving cactus , because i can never find the christmas one, i love them all, thanks so much .
Your pothos are beautiful, great tip using the pillow case, thanks. I wish my pothos were long enough to need a pillow case. It’s my own fault though, I keep cutting and propagating the clippings to add back into the plant for bushy-ness. On another note, I noticed that each of the garage door windows behind you reflects a different image making them look like pieces of landscape artwork 🖼 hanging there. Your view must be gorgeous. Thanks for another interesting video.
You're so welcome Dori! I'll be taking some cuttings soon so I can do a tutorial. It does help to force some bushiness to the top of the plant. I have a hedge of Oleander & a 30' Pine across from my garage so that's what you see. I have a lot of birds around. Nell
Thank you for clarifying that potting soils are actually a soiless mix! I usually get confused watching videos that say soiless mix but use a bag of potting mix! Clears up the confusion!
Awesome, I just found your channel and this one was a very good one. Very clever to use a pillowcase to tame the trails, I'm always so worried that I will do more harm than good. thanks for the tips.
Wow! Nell, what a great idea to use a pillow case for the Pothos trails! You know, I've got a Pothos growing up a trellis, and the trails are approx. 5 meters long. You can imagine that I dread transplanting the plant for fear I might damage my beauty severely. I might consider repotting the plant now that I've seen you doing it. Thanks a lot, Nell! Best wishes from Berlin to the Arizona desert! Marc
haha i would have broken them doing that, so i lay a sheet flat for large ones, but normally i take cuttings and shorten the plant, then start the ends in water, much eaiser for me
I know you said It was the end of the saturday and a long week, is that the reason you were stuttering and stumbling with the words a little? I really hope everything is going okay, sending you much love and energy. Your videos are a big part of the reason I enjoy taking care of my plants more and why all 13 of them are still alive. Thank you!
Hi Nell! I am really surprised you don't have a caladium care video! I just got my first caladium and I was hoping you would have some info for me on how to take care of it. I love your videos and have loved them for a long time!
Mandy - Love Caladiums! I grew them in San Francisco & Santa Barbara but they're hard to find here in Tucson. I have an Anthurium video coming soon. And thank you! Nell
@@JoyUsGarden I recently repotted my caladiums and brought them inside to be houseplants (was that all too shocking to happen at the same time) and now they are starting to droop, I am really nervous because I do not know what to do. I don't know if I should cut the droopy/brown leaves? If it needs more sun?If it got too much water? ugh I really do not want to lose my pretty plant.
Great video! I bought a 10inch pot totem pothos and I noticed roots showing at the top and a few stringy ones coming out of the bottom so I know I’m going to have to repot this big beauty. So my question is if the plant is root bound should I prune the roots? And if so do I cut the bottom roots? Or should I just leave the roots alone? .....TIA!
I have plenty of plant musings Derek! I never have grown Pothos in water for longer than 4 months so I have no experience with that. I think that the roots would need oxygen & nutrients at some point. Nell
Brilliant idea Abt pillow case😊 You have lovely pothos. I have a small n joy, can't wait to get them big and longer, is it slow growing? I'm tempted to buy a new one that is much bigger and longer
Hi Nell. I'm confused. 🤔 I have an enjoy which was green and white. I'm now having new growth come through where its more cream than white. Still healthy and a little larger actually. Do you know why? Thanks Martin
loved the video! I've had my pothos for about a year but it's soil is hard and cakey and it's grown huge. it's a little limp even after I watered it and I'm afraid it's going to get worse. time to repot?
Hello , i am a hoya colletor , a whant to know if ther is any web sall Different Types Cutting . Pls help me with my hoppy . I cant fine any hoyas in my country
Hi Ahmad - Most growers don't ship outside the USA because of restrictions. I don't know who sells in your country. I know there's a Hoya grower in the UK. Nell
You have gorgeous plants! I’ve a huge 31 yro Pothos that I propagate to give away to friends n family and have repotted it many times... Buh.. that pillowcase idea looked to be far more trouble, w/ potential damage, than it was worth... at least give the lady a satin case. ;) Peace
The pillow case has always worked just fine for me. The 1 I use is flannel. Gardening, like cooking, is personal - that's the beauty of it. Peace, Nell

Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought a few videos ago. Paintings on the background and how harmonious they look together.
It's fun to see art in the most unlikely of places, Ilona. :-)

The Pothos Enjoy is a beauty! Lovely variegation! The pillow case is a neat trick, thanks!
🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
Sure is! It's growing like crazy since it's been repotted & the temps have warmed. Nell

You make me laugh. Thanks for both showing how to repot and giving me a laugh.😁
Hi - Well thank you! I love to laugh & I love to repot. Both are satisfying! Nell

Hi Marc from Berlin! The pillow case trick works well. The Pothos leaves bruise easily so this trick really helps to prevent damage. Nell

Great timing Callie! I have quite a few more repotting videos coming up so stay tuned. Nell
Thanks Nell for your videos! I love houseplants! Yours are beautiful !
You're so welcome Diane. My houseplants are taking over my house so I might have to move out! Love them & they all behave beautifully! Nell
Love your videos, Nell! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and charm with us ❤️ I never would have thought to use a pillowcase 👍
Thank you Cathy! The pillow case makes it so much easier when you're filling in the soil mix. Plus, it helps to prevent the leaves from damage. Nell
@@JoyUsGarden I like our plant
Thanks for sharing great tips. I can't wait until mine get that big.
You're so welcome Tameka! Your Pothos should grow like crazy once warm weather sets in. Nell

You're welcome Ruby! This is a great time of year for repotting. Nell

Love my plants; & thank you! Nell
Thanks my dear for those wonderful tricks💕
Happy to share. And, you're very welcome! Nell
Could you do a video on proper fertilizing?
Sure. I've just started to fertilize my houseplants. I do this every spring: www.joyusgarden.com/compost-for-houseplants/ Nell

Btw...what do You think about Growing Pothos in water long term?
I have plenty of plant musings Derek! I never have grown Pothos in water for longer than 4 months so I have no experience with that. I think that the roots would need oxygen & nutrients at some point. Nell
I love that lol! You and your pothos musings :)

Great video!
Question: how important is it to fertilize your pothos? is it a good idea to do so occasionally (once a year?)
loved the video! I've had my pothos for about a year but it's soil is hard and cakey and it's grown huge. it's a little limp even after I watered it and I'm afraid it's going to get worse. time to repot?
What soil do you use?
i always water mine before i take it out of the pot, much eaiser
Why when I propagate the pothos the leaves are born smaller?

Hi Gerry - I buy it at a local nursery. You can buy it on amazon - the link is in the post: www.joyusgarden.com/houseplant-repotting-pothos/ Nell
Thanks Nell! Will see if I can find it at my local nursery, if not order it online.
Happy weekend!
