    Love your videos. I like the way you use simple effective gear and clothing that don't have to be brand name. This is ideal for those who are on a limited budget. Keep the videos coming!

    I laughed when I saw you were wearing a field jacket liner. Until about 3 years ago I still had one I was issued in 1987. I gave it to a friend's kid who had just joined school cadets. A great piece of "retro" military kit. I enjoyed the gear break-down thanks.

      Yes, the liner is one of my favorite pieces of gear but is showing its age. The pack definitely melts into the rocks out here, I am looking to get a set of jacket and pants if I can find them or have an anorak made.

    The older stuff is so much better for top layers. The underwear and long johns have gotten better with fabric technology... but old military and just thick wool is better than anything new I have bought. I have an old police jacket from the 1980s with a fur collar (removable) and zip in liner that is the one the warmest coats I have ever owned.... Everyone always laughs when we ice fish our hunt, but I'm always warm. Also have a pair of military mickey mouse boots from the 80s.. again the warmest boots for Minnesota-30 weather. My coldest weather outfit cost me maybe $60... thats boots, jacket, 2 pairs of socks, thermal underwear, pair of flannel lined jeans, t-shirt, button down flannel shirt and hoody sweatshirt.... im good for -30 all day... usually get too hot and gotta take layers off after the sun's up 😆 🤣 😂

      @Scablands_Scavenger  Před rokem +4

      I agree, I have some of the modern gear as well but have found it to be not as comfortable and not nearly as durable, especially if you spend any time around fire or bushwacking through bull thistle/bramble thickets.

    I, as I’m sure others, would love to see you survive through the night in your bushcraft with the amount of gear you would bring, if you knew that having to survive the night may be a possibility.
    I would imagine that many would have basic survival supplies in their backpacks just in case. Whatever you would bring: blankets, the poncho you mentioned, or others. It would be really cool to see that internal temperature go way up!

    Please tell ppl to wear fleece ( wool is heavy). Any other material will freeze. I usual wear stretch pants with ski pants. Regular tight t-shirt ( contain sweat)with fleece jacket or sweater. Ski jacket. Fleece hat. Gloves insulated with fleece. Been living in my van for 10 years in colorado. 👍
    BTW do not depend on your vehicles battery to keep it warm. You'll find yourself stranded wit an empty battery. Buy a lil cooker for 16 bucks and propane for meals and heat when it gets bad. But best is to roll into a fleece blanket and tarp.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  Před rokem +2

      Sorry but I was not wearing fleece in the overnight video. I prefer wool, that is why it was with me. The wool shirt in this video is at least 15 years old and will last another 15 if taken care of. I prefer wool as a mid layer to fleece, it is slightly heavier but last me longer and is better in the wind than the fleece jacket I am wearing while filming this. We all have preferences bourn from our experiences. I find the weight and thickness of wool to be better suited and longer lasting than fleece or other plastics/synthetics especially around fire and crawling through the brush.

      I agree, good wool gear is expensive but well worth the money, much better around campfires as well. I have quite a bit of surplus gear that is still very good shape. The second hand market is a good place to find old woolen clothing at affordable prices.
