My building in Jeppestown was hijacked by an ANC councilor. When we went to Jeppe Police station we were warned that if we reported it we would be putting our lives es in danger as the hijackers would attempt to kill us.

The real problem is the eviction laws in this country. This problem would never have gotten this bad if you could simply evict someone for non-payment. These building dont get abandoned for no reason. To a point where not even metros can comply with these very same laws. But they want a normal citizen with little funds to do the same. Cause you must find the person other accommodation that they can afford, what can a homeless or unemployed person afford? So metros push these people in the front of the queue of RDP housing projects, while other people will pass on waiting. What do you as a normal landlord do if you dont have free houses just sitting around and have to still maintain a property that is not generating a income anymore? Imagine telling a restaurant they need to keep serving someone who has already said they cannot pay or telling a taxi he needs to keep transporting someone to different destinations after that person says they have no money. Its madness and then politicians act like they cant understand why the buildings are in such bad conditions and abandoned. Then it opens up the space for people to rent out a building they dont own illegally to desperate people looking for cheap accommodation and they dont need to comply with and law. If you dont pay you get beaten up and kicked out while people who is trying to do the right thing goes under because they cant keep up with repaying loans. Today government wants to complain about mafias taking over. But some of these mafias are born from their laws. Even what is happening with construction, its the very BEE laws being used.

Is so sad if foreigners hijacked the building s they have to have alternative housing. If they citizens occupy thier own land government forcefully evect them with no alternatives housing. Something is not right here

The incompetence of the ANC government is heartbreaking. This why they didn't want a coalition with DA. I hope those who supported Panyaza are rejoicing.

    Institutionalized incompetence nothing less.....🤔😳🤔!!!!!!
Its politically expedient to ignore this problem, because to address it requires too much resolve.
Weak Council led by a Weak Mayor......
