  • The Norwegian town of Rjukan has constructed three large mirrors on a mountain to beam sunlight into the town's square. Rjukan's long winters keep it without daylight for around six months of the year. The three heliostats rotate throughout the day as the sun moves to catch and reflect the rays

Is it only this small spot in the town centre that is covered by sunlight? Also, wouldn't this create a heat effect similar to that of a magnifying glass? Remember the story where a huge glass building melted the side-view mirrors of a car parked outside of it?

No, Mirrors can only melt if they are Concave or if say 10+ mirrors are pointed at the same spot.

They took the idea from an Italian village.

The Italians planned this at 1935 or 1940 but the Norwegians thought about it at 1913 but Italian people were more advanced at building that time, so the Norwegians completed the sun mirror at 2013 but the Italians far back in 1945 or 1960 ( somewhere in those years) but I can’t blame you for saying that since Italians were done before.

Hmmm, as cool as this is, there must be a better solution. Perhaps a Special Lens to refract and diffuse the Sunlight across the shaded area.
