He wrote and played all the instruments.. He not only sang, but was quite the musician and producer. Definitely a rare talent and dreadfully underrated.
Superbly soulful, rockin' R&B from probably THE most underrated musician in 'modern' rock circles. Todd is a bottomless pit of talent and creativity, had the good fortune to meet him and shake his hand backstage in '94 after his solo show "An Interactive Evening with Todd Rundgren" at Manchester Academy, where he performed from inside a specifically designed pod encircled by various keyboards, guitars, props and effects. He was visibly surprised and touched when almost the entire audience sang along to more than one of his songs, word for word. Myself and 3 other mates had driven 6-7 hours down from Scotland to see him, and drove straight back up after the gig and meeting him. An almost life-changing event, rather than just a Todd gig.
Very influential music man. At 70 he's never gotten his proper respect. He's done it all in music. He still lives for the music and leads a full creative life. Plus I had hair like his in my heyday...
By the way, anyone that thinks this song was a stroke of luck by Todd has no idea what they're talking about. He's one of the most talented musicians of our time.
Great to hear this again - saw him & friends on tour in Cleveland OH almost 30 years ago to the day. It was in support of his A Cappella LP. Excellent stuff, this song was a highlight. Thanks for sharing.
Real Man ......who is that? the one that shows up to be the man that loves..... stays around........ to be the one that will love you.....to the end........loyal lover and friend......... real man.......
OK, established why the middle backup singer looks familiar (Tubes/Mrs. Todd) but the short haired singer on the right looks very familiar as well? Did she tour or was she local or...?
puntagordy Yeah, the blonde is Michele Gray (Michele Rundgren). She was a dancer/backup singer for the Tubes for a long time then went on tour with Todd and he ended up marrying her.
Super cool Jim. I worked the agora ballroom in west hartford ct in the mid 80's. cindy lauper, billy idol the ramones men without hats the clash the pretenders etc and on and on todd super cool and huey lewis too! stay in touch cool new friend.
that background singer girl #1 or the one who is leftish is so friggin hot...aside from that sweet distraction this is an arrangement that is just absolutely first rate...

Todd Rundgren is a master of great music, the kind we can all relate to and get hooked on!

With the great Vince Welnick
Thanks for posting, really like TR, and that's a good performance!
So much better drumming and bass playing than on the studio ablum version! :-)
Yes VERY solid rhythm section here. Good guitar work too.
1:48: only nonpareil intuition spawns that subtle elan (in a chord change).
Love it !
Perfect.

Wonderful to hear him with all that back-up. Are there any other clips from this concert here at youtube?
