    I love Silvestrov. But. Why do we, academic composers, have to be complicated for the sake of it? What is this first note? triplet quaver??? why? they all play at the same time. Why being so unnessecary complex? That's partly why we lost our audience.

      First of all, orchestras can't even play Mozart together, let alone the difficult rhythms here. To your point, there should've been 2 clear entrances of that first figure, but there were three: 1) Perc, 2) Violas/Cellos on pitch D, 3) Lowest basses on D. I blame conductors and performers, not composers. I mean, he clearly wrote the metronome marking, so he had a firm idea of the timing therein. It's not his fault that the conductor didn't insist, and/or the orchestra couldn't execute.
