- Following almost two years away from the Octagon, welterweight Jorge Masvidal returned in 2019 in a big way, securing the fastest knockout in promotion history at UFC 239, then capped off the year winning the BMF belt over opponent Nate Diaz. Masvidal is set to face Gilbert Burns next in the co-main event at UFC 287 on Saturday, April 8.

Jorge's flying knee against Askren will always be the most legendary KO in the UFC.
There’s been a few but its right at the top for me too. I’d say the Mcgregor vs Aldo ko just beats it but the recent Leon head kick we saw is up there in my book. It’s a tough one.

Jorge Masvidal *always made weight* for all his fights win or lose.
Jorge is a example of someone who isn't a elite kickboxer or muay thai striker, but is a phenomenal mma striker. It took me a while to even figure out with that means, but something a commentator just said in this video helped me clarify what I meant by that. He said something to the effect of unusual entries into striking range. Jorge has great Boxing, and he has honed in on specifc probing strikes to use just to enter in to his boxing range. And he's honed in on specifc power strikes that he spams out of nowhere. The strikes he throws outside of boxing, are not how a kickboxer or a muay thai fighter would blend strikes in combination, or camouflaging one strike with another. He probes with light kicks to get weird entries into boxing range and then boxes and breaks up his punches with power strikes, outside of the rhythm, cadence and connectivity of a typical combination. He's bizarre.

I know people diss Jorge now, but I think he's got a better MMA brain than people give him credit for.
Hearing him talk on JRE the other day - he would jump up on Askren off-camera and observe that Askren would get flustered, wouldn't react well to an unexpected situation. Hence the direction and speed change with the flying knee - he correctly anticipated that doing something Askren didn't expect would cause him to fall back on his instincts and shoot for a takedown. Anyone who maintains that knee was "lucky" is in denial at this point.
