He was pulling really good money in 1998! Idk what he thinks that proves, $400 for like 5 days, nominally 10 hours of work (even if he was working 8 hours a day) is a lot of money for 98
@@Yixdy Just looked up the average annual wage in the US in 1998, and it was 38k. Even if Tosh would have worked all weeks, all year, 500 bucks per week, that's still only 26k, so way below the national average. Also, a comedian doesn't just work 2 hours per day, that's ridiculous. You have to count traveling and writing and actually practicing the jokes too.
Honestly the money talk, lack of celebrites, and short runtime make this the most interesting podcast in my feed. It makes up for the full screen frame and the audio issues.

I worked in student activities at SCAD in Savannah while I was a student from 2003-06. We booked you in for a show and took you to dinner afterward (to the fanciest TGI Fridays in town). I’m pretty sure we paid a couple thousand dollars, and you couldn’t have been funnier on stage or nicer off stage. Definitely made a lot of fans for life that night, including this one of 20 years. Flash forward, I now work in Atlanta with someone that was a PA on Tosh.0, and she has the same great feedback on you: hysterically funny, incredibly nice. Glad for all your success and that you’re the same good guy to people that work with you. (And glad that you’re pulling in a little more than a couple grand a show.)
Thank you for sharing. I started watching Tosh around 2002/2003 when his first bits on Comedy Central we're popping up and I swore to everyone he was the funniest man alive and made them watch his stuff. I recorded it on VHS if that says anything lmao. But you always hope your heroes are actually good people and I always hear Daniel is top class, and love hearing more and more testimonial from people who've met or worked with him in the past.

This is especially hilarious to me because when I first saw Daniel in Seattle some heckler yelled out "how much is in your bank account?" .. it was strange and confusing.. but Daniel immediately said, "wtf what kind of question even is that?" .. the dude yelled back "ballpark".. lol.. Daniel goes "ballpark? Why would I even know that? I don't know. But I know this... my life gets better when yours ends" ... lol place explodes. My favorite part of this show that you do is the peek behind the curtain we get into your life. I don’t care what you pay for something because I know you get good money for what you do. You’re one of the best and you deserve every cent 🙌🏻
I saw the time for this episode and thought this is a long one, the guest must have a lot to say. Then 10 minutes into reading a calendar, I realized why it was so long
I appreciate that you are so candid about your life, both relationship and finances. I recognize your privilege and I also recognize that is YOUR privilege. It was YOUR hard work and good fortune that got you to place of being able to have and spend what and how you do. Money is such a taboo subject in America and I honestly think that the hush-hush nature of finances is a a big part of the problem people face when it comes to money. Demystify what shouldn't be a mystery to begin with. Screw the haters, keep spittin' that truth.
I do find the real numbers and struggle through the come up. As a massive fan of comedy it really paints a clearer picture into just what people grind through at the start.
Wow. I saw you around 2000 or so at the Comedy Works in Denver. I think it was one of those deals where they called me and said "Congratulations! You won a free comedy party for up to 30 people. 1 drink minimum". You were funny as hell back then and are still funny as hell. Watching you read your calendar from back then made me realize how hard you worked your ass off over the years to become one of the greatest. Maybe one of the greatest ever. I am funny in small groups. I make my friends laugh and I've always mused about getting on stage. Now I realize that I don't have the BALLS to be a comedian. That's the difference between you and the unwashed masses that can't pay 6 figures for an air stream or pay "new driveway money" to get our drawers lined. I've seen you a couple of times live since 2000 and you've always delivered. Thank you for making me laugh.
These numbers in the beginning are great, it’s motivating to hear. I’m currently out of work and not trying to pursue comedy, but essentially starting over at 36…just gotta keep on keeping on and hard work will pay off one way or another. Thanks
Love the "palsy hands" is classical music line. Great interview ( as always) The hiking story where you crap your pants and Andy goes into near diabetic shock was hilarious.

Absolutely astounded that in January of 2000, 2 eventual comedy legends appeared together at a strip mall, somewhere between Jean's Electrolysis and the Discount Hitch store. Fucking wild!
