    Another fantastic review! I have been reading Invincible Iron Man Omnibus Vol 1 and am almost done. I am really enjoying it so far. Love the artwork in these older comics. Will be looking forward to reading Volume 2!

      Enjoyed volume 1 and I also enjoyed volume 2. Looking forward to the upcoming (about two weeks or so) omnibus volume 3 that takes us up to about issue 67 (and covering many of my earliest US Iron Man comics). Gene Colan, George Tuska, Johnny Craig etc - all superb.

      Will be soon enough, yet to buy it. It is out at the moment but I have bought more than enough books / blurays this month already - so something for the next few months

    Hardcore comic fan here since 1979. Just wanted to say how much I love your channel. I’ve seen them all, but the eclectic mix of books with how you present (British accent always makes this American feel smarter after hearing it), makes my booktube day! That’s all I wanted to say, the day you decided to make a book tube channel, was a great day for me! Keep up the good work. Also check out the Slaughterhouse Five Graphic Novel: Quick read, but brilliant.

      I have read the Slaughterhouse Five graphic novel (unless there is a new one), thought I had a review of that ? Glad you like the videos. Been a British comics fan since about 1967, though up and down in my collecting so I would never consider myself a hardcore comics fan. Love adding a review or two about books (as well as CDs and blurays and other loves)

    Thanks for sharing. I'm 62 and like yourself prefer the stories and artwork from the 60s - 70s. I used to buy the comics as a young lad, they would cost about 5p from the local newsagents if I remember correctly.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 18 dny +1

      I'm 62 as well, certain you picked up Fantastic /Terrific etc back in the 60s and then MWOM etc in the 70s. I will always love those old 60s and 70s comics, US as well as UK. My Mum worked in a newsagents so I spent way too much time reading through all the comics in that shop as well as buying too many all the local shops and secondhand shops and at the fetes. Most were about 5p / 6p, really affordable and then after that they rocketed up to £4+ ... I dread to think about the inflation figure based on that.

      I went through a lot back then, I doubt if I could ever read that many books now. Likewise the comics. Had over a couple of 1000 comics and books back then and I certainly read them all about a dozen times over. Probably why the stories are stuck in the head forever

    Hi, Andrew--Thanks for another fun review! Ok, let's see... what am I still waiting for? Like you, Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2, and also Uncanny X-Men 2. I'm hoping Marvel reprints Thor vols. 2 and 3 at some point, and maybe someday they'll get around to putting out some Silver Age Sub-Mariner as well...

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 18 dny

      Yes, Cap America 2 and also X-Men 2 as well, Daredevil 1 and FF 1 and Spidey 2 and Iron Man 2. Probably some others but a little list of gaps in the SA omnis to get (got the 1965 omni on pre-order)
      Yes, Sub-Mariner omni vol 1, 2, 3 ... if only, got the current epics as well as Sgt Fury omni 1, 2, etc Think that must be about it but I also hope they bring out the filler volumes (the ones that include the Tales to / Tales Of / Strange Tales etc that have never been in an omni). I have given up on a Millie or Patsy omni or Rawhide Kid one, unless they license them out to Fantagraphics

    • @g.p.ryecroft
      @g.p.ryecroft Před 15 dny +1

      THOR vol 2 is a big Silver Age gap in my collection too. I thought with it being Lee-Kirby awesomeness it would be kept in print and reprinted regularly. Here's hopin'....!

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 8 dny +1

      Thor 2 I picked up in a charity store, if I recall, it was about £50 which is expensive for a charity store but it was worth getting and in decent condition, a few marks and scuffs and bends

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 8 dny +1

      You would think the core classics of Marvel would be nearly in print each and every year, such as FF omni 1 and 2, Daredevil 1, Hulk 1, Thor 1 etc

      I have yet to buy volume 3, will wait and see as the price is quite high at the moment, not mega keen on all the stories in vol 3 but will probably still get it. At the moment, only got Marvel 1965 omnibus on pre-order

  • @g.p.ryecroft
    @g.p.ryecroft Před 15 dny +1

    Great overview, Andrew! I have this omni ordered but will probably skip volume 3 as I have the Battle Royal epic collection that contains the best issues of that omni's span of issues. I hate double dipping on omnis after I buy the epics, though I have done it before and will again (probably will get FF omni 5). You mentioned the original Dazzler and I'm looking forward to getting the Dazzler omni and the Godzilla omnis in October. I'm already socking aside some shekels for the DC Finest epic collections that are going to start up this fall. That will be a budget buster! Keep the reviews a'comin'!

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 15 dny +1

      Noticed that the price for omni 3 has already increased in the UK, odd. Looked at the contents and those stories in 3 are not really my favourites, there are a few good ones but I have the epics already as well or read the individual ones many times over. FF omnibus 5 is a possible, had some great stories that I really loved. Dazzler, probably pass on that but I did buy many of the issues when they came out as well as bought the origin issue in the X-Men comic. Been enjoying the Godzilla films, never was into the comics though.
      Yes, the DC finest are definitely up there for me. I have two pre-ordered but I will probably go for many more. I just hope they really explore lots of different areas of the DC comics, so many of their 40s and 50s and 60s etc comics have never seen the light of day.

      I agree, I would not be surprised to see a $200 at some point. They often start at over £100 here in the UK, luckily they drop quite a bit after release.

      I agree ... certainly not happening for me. Does mean I can't buy all the books I would love to get. I assume they factor that in when they are pricing, if they went to $300 or so, I suspect the sales would drop other than the very rich or totally loyal comic fans

    Stan Lee milked the secret identity bit for all it was worth in virtually every comic he wrote.
    Nevertheless that Archie Goodwin, Johnny Craig/George Tuska run that forms the majority of the work here is easily amongst the best ever in silver age Marvel.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 18 dny +1

      Yes, the secret identity part always bugged me in many a comic. There was a lot of great work in this omni from those artists
