Different generations of the CR-V have different seat configurations. Including a year model in your description would help people discern if your video might be of use to them.
What he showed was a Gen:4 2012-2016. As you say, other generations are quite different !
@@oldcynic6964 looks like the newer ones don't have that feature 2024-25
I've had my gen 1 CRV for over 3 years and slept uncomfortably in the back many many times with the back seats just folded forward.
After watching this I just went and flipped the seats up so the backs now fold flat like yours.
Now I don't need a swag lol
Thanks heaps for this vid!!!
I LOVE YOU! just changed my life i can’t explain the gratitude i feel right now
There's a lever in the back cargo compartment that does all three of those actions at once. No need to go to each seat.
Where?
Not in a 2008. Need to state the year of your CR-V.
I also just figured out that the two handles above the back tires on the cargo area release all the parts of the seat at once if you pull each side!
Let’s not pretend that this makes for a “flat” area. Biggest mistake I made buying my CRV was assuming fold down rear seats would create a flat rear area for car camping
So no car camping? That's why I'm looking at a Mitsubishi Outlander as it looks possible
Right! Unless it's changed in later models. Unfortunately he didn't tell us what model year his CRV is
I found the year of his model crv. Should have been in the title.
Same here!
Should get a 97 to 2001 model or the honda elements they got good camping setups and seats. The 97 to 2001 crvs have a table, a cooler. Plenty of storage and their seats lay down great for sleeping
You showed the best part and something others didn't in their videos. Thank you!
Thanks a lot I've had my crv for 6 years never new this!
Thank you! It helped me figure the cargo cover out.
Lifesaver. You're a legend man
THANK YOU THIS HELPED ME OUT
That was awesome 👏🏾 ty!
Mie "THE MAGIC MAN" Miller, Wow now I wouldn't have NEVER thought about that when I helped my friend put some Home Depot equipment a few years ago.
2 yrs and I had no idea...thank you!!!!
Thank you!! I love CR-Vs...
Thank you. It worked.
Thank you for sharning this! I just need it!
Glad it helped!
My 2004 is easy to fold without removing headrest. Pull button on top to fold forward THEN pull strap on bottom to fold forward and make the entire floor flat! That’s it! The space is over 5ft deep by 4ft wide and tall too. The size blew me away!
what a nice and wonderful video❤
Thanks Bud !!
Thank you!
This video was a life saver. Thank you
i agree with you
This might work for longer cargo but won't work for camper conversion - not flat enough and not long enough.
The distance from the back hatch to the foot well is mere 5ft (and the folded seat makes a hump), so you need a 6ft long piece of plywood on top of this and some legs in the back to prop it up.
With the backrest lowered vertically into the foot well the sleeping space becomes more flat but it is still the same 5ft long and you need a 6 ft plywood again, on top of that piece in the foot well.
Just have an inclined bed. Then all you need is 1 piece of plywood
yeah idk why people think this is "flat." I get so frustrated when car shopping. The pontiac vibe and toyota matrix both have completely flat folding back seats and it's fantastic. I wish companies would make that standard and I wish people would know the distinction instead of getting my hopes up haha
@@TylerAlexis Some people think the world is flat. There is nothing flat about the back of this 2015 CR-V
get a rav4 instead
Thank you life saver
Thanks much, perfect
Thank you very much for sharing this information! I had no idea my 05 Honda CRV had that option. This could be a lifesaver for me in terms of transporting my bicycle! TY
The 2005 crv doesn't actually have this option and the seat will not lie flat.
@@jamierojas6102 Actually my 2005 Honda CRV EX DOES indeed have this option but the pull straps are on the back of the seats and not the sides like in this video. I found them just after watching this video and am forever grateful because now my back seats lie flat and my e-bike fits in my SUV!!!!!! Awesome find...thank you!
@@jamierojas6102 I appreciate when people actually chime in with some facts, thanks Jamie
thank you bro
Thank you.
This Did help but they still don’t lay flat 😉
Man you’re a genius
Thank you sir , I learned something , What are the 2 handles on both sides of the trunk there for ?
Wow! I would've never known!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU
THANK YOUUU
Lifesaver!!😁😁😁😁
Bruh I had my crv for two years and never knew it could do that, I’ve been pulling the wrong levers to make the seats flip forwards rather than down to make them flat
Thanks, my trip to IKEA tomorrow should go a bit smoother
Not totally flat but still a bit lower. It is funny, my previous car was a 2004 Ford Focus Wagon and you had to flip up the seat bottom to lower the seat backs. So when I got my new for me 2016 R-V the first thing I did in lowering the rear seat backs was to flip up the bottom cushions. I never thought at all of trying it without doing that.
Thanks, got mine used and was looking where my old 4 Runner had the seat strap, which was tucked behind seat.
Glad the video helped!
This is why I still have the 5th gen CR-V (2017-2022). Such a simple thing yet....
I have a 2003. Wish mine did this too
But it didn’t go flat!
The 2nd option - with backrest placed into the foot well - made it flat-er. But it is not good for sleeping, you still need a long piece of plywood to put on top of that vertical backrest in the foot well, with legs in the rear to keep it level.
Honda fit is totally flat
@@alexmotlyakh5922 Or, if that's your goal and it's more than temporary, take the seats out altogether and get that much added storage under the platform. Also, you could save some weight by securing a shorter platform cantilevered over the floor from the cargo takedown points forward. Frontmost part can be a solid piece of plywood or with a hinged section for access.
exactly brilliant observation
Jennifer J. Not a problem on my car, an older Isuzu Rodeo. It has a heavy steel hinge at the bottom front seat edge bolted with a single big fat fastener to the reinforced floor. The CRV appears to have a much different underseat structure -- even if the seat bottom were detached from the hardware, if that remains in place, the seat back won't lie completely flat when folded down. If that hardware underneath is riveted or welded down, it's clearly no easy chore to remove . . . and that doesn't even address the issue of reinstalling it securely.
It doesn't look quite flat. I have an HRV and the seats lay down very flat. I am evaluating whether or not I want a new HRV or a CRV. Thanks for the video!
Even with that year of vehicle, how much length is flat? Enough room for someone who is 5'10" to sleep in the back if camping?
Is there a latch in the back to open the trunk from the inside of a 2014 Honda CRV EX-L?
Yes the seats go down....but...Not perfectly " flat" has a slat up towards front seats so for making a bed to camp you would have to create something to make it "level" head to foot.
It's not all the way flat it's at an angle.
I'm afraid it's still not enough room for camping. Tried to flatten front seats but it doesn't work too.
I have an older model CR-V and mine doesn't work like that. BTW, how do I remove the rear seat headrests???
Thanks for the reminder! I’m helping my daughter move her dresser to her new apartment and couldn’t remember how to fold the seats completely flat. The dresser fits by the way. CRV rocks!
Omg.... thank you
Glad the video helped!
I do not have those "straps" on my 2019. How does this year fold? Headrests or seats neither have straps
A measurement of the full cargo area would be nice
All well and good if it works. My latches (both on the rear of the seats and the lever on the back wall of the rear compartment) appear to be broken, so nothing happens when you pull either of them. My local servicemen tells me it will cost $475 plus labour to fix this.ouch!!!!
There’s is a fix for this, a video on You Tube, to replace the broken part (cheap plastic bit) using very thin cable ties. I’ve done one and still one to do but ran out of thin ones.
How can I do Honda CR-V 2017??
This is a Gen 4 CRV, it has two levers in the back that do all these 3 actions with one pull per side.
Video starts at 0:28. You're welcome.
My 2017 CR-V has neither the headrest tab at 0:41 or bottom seat tab at 1:17. Am going on a cross country trip in 30 days in which this would've been helpful.
But they still don’t go near flat though?
I love my Honda CR-V 2014
Do the seat lay flat? or similar to this 2015?
how about for a 2019?
I wish my 06 seats did that omg
There's a 80mm difference in height from the rear seat top when laid down to make it level on the 2016 model; so not flat.
Which CR-V years have the same fold down rear seats like this?
My 2015 CRV is like this. Note that it is not totally flat, but good enough for me.
I have heard HRV flattens better.
My 2014 is like this 😬
Instead of going around to pull the straps to make it go down flat, you just have to pull on the handles that's already on the sides in the back....
Photo please!
@@7Adonijah As you watch the video from the beginning, look at the handle to the left of the gentleman. Pull on the lever on each side and the seats go down (lever on each side of the car accessed from the trunk area).
Thank you so much. I still love my crv 2007. It's the perfect size car for me.
1:15 **pro-tip** when i release the bottom seat first on my 2014 CR-V, the head rest and seat back unlatch and fall forward automatically.
you just taught me something my owners manual was silent on. Thank you !!
Does not have that option on older crv
What year ur Car is?
Oh I have a 2005 model. So I guess mine would be different .
It's certainly flatter. But doesn't look completely flat. Front part still looks angled up.
I have a 2017 and I don’t think I have those tab pulls....
Is this for a 2020???
Those seats are still NOT flat.
Recline?
this isn't actually flat :(
there are latches on each side of the rear compartment though...
Photo please!
Had 2002 . I've heard nissan x trail fold flat the crv doesn't.
Actually, the simplest way to fold the seats flat is to pull the lever on each side in the rear.
That still is not FLAT Enough in that Honda CRV
I don't have those pulleys
I don't have a strap there
The 2010 is totally different
Nope, this did not help me, im frustrated the seats did not lay down all the way flat, I test drove a if i remember right was either a 2011 or a 2013 Jeep Compass to my amazement the seats folded down all the way flat
Need to be real careful with a Jeep Compass… I owned a 2016 that was brand new and had nothing on… I keep saying I was lucky it came with A steering wheel. It’s the biggest piece of junk I ever owned in my life it was still under warranty and I was having trouble right and left I couldn’t imagine what would happen after the warranty went out so I got rid of it while it was still under warranty and got a 2018 CRV. I had several people that were mechanics and do different things with vehicles work at different companies with automobiles and they all said the same thing, that a jeep compass is nothing more than a Fiat. Mine turned out to be the biggest lemon going.
Does this work on the 2010 crv?
I'm not familiar with the 2010's, but if the 2010 is a different generation, then I'd guess probably. Only one way to find out though!
@@mikemillermph I found out it doesn't.
Gotcha. I meant to say I'd guess probably *not* in my original comment, sorry about that!
*my 2006 CRV back seat goes totally flat*
How?? I have a 2011 and would love that for taking my kids to the drive in movies
@@brionnacortez5108 did u not watch this video? he shows how
Long enough to sleep in the back of it ????
No me with my 96 CRV 🥲
They don't lay completely flat. People should read the manual. In some older models there is a table on the underside of the back .
What model, the 2013? KR
This doesnt apply to gen 1-3
That’s not flat
No. It's def. angled.
UGH! What year is your car!!!! Basic info please.
still not truly flat
Wow! The HR-V is so much better... Why didn't they make it like the HR-V? That's exactly like the Chevy Trax. Lame...
That doesn't look flat
I think you need to look up the definition of "flat" cause that isn't flat.
Not flat, still slanted. Video title is misleading.
It's not flat....
All the way flat. Hahaha! There is a 6.5 inch difference between the lowered seats with the bottom seat flipped up and the rear of the cargo area in the 2014. This is a terrible design on Honda's part.
