  • Please check out episode 20 of Drum For The Song podcast featuring the awesome Mike Terrana for the full conversation. In this clip, he explains why AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is so brilliant and how his minimalistic style has helped him become very rich as drummer for arguably the biggest rock band on the planet.
Mike is a 61 year old American drummer and has performed with some of the most talented musicians in rock such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Axel Rudi Pell, Tony MacAlpine and more. We had a great conversation and talked about his life living in Italy, his gigantic collection of drums and why he's never sold a kit, his warm up routines, keeping fit, how he's successfully grown his social media following posting daily videos during lockdown via Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, wearing "sexy Mozart costumes" and much more.

Any time I need a pick-me-up, I dig out a longer live version of Rocker or Let There Be Rock, and tune into Phil and Malcolm layin’ it down.

Phil can swing the beat. Not many rock drummers can. That’s the truth.

Say whatever about him but nobody sounds like Phil Rudd except Phil Rudd.

Not just Phil Rudd. But Phill Rudd and Cliff Williams. Malcom and Angus on guitars played off each other. There is so much more complexity in such simplicity. Thunderstruck on bass aint as easy as it seems. 1 note playing eighths. No movements or progressions just stright 8th notes. Try it and try and stay in time. Timing is music. So I can only imagine drums. Even when I played guitar this was a hard one to play because the mundaness to make it sound good leaves a lot of room to mess up. But if you all can play it in time it sounds good.
