Episode 119 Manic Mechanic
We test our Falcon horn and show you how to make sure that your horn is good from top to bottom. We show how to test a relay. We show how to test the horns. We show how to check for 12 volts to the relay. We show how to test for continuity from the relay to the horn button.

I really like your channel! I'm 35 and just got 1973 Lincoln mark iv. I love it! I've been watching your channel and using what I learnt to tinker with my car. Keep them coming! 🤘💯
Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you so much for actually showing every part involved. You guys are unique in that respect! I now know I'm missing the collar that covers the bearing as well as the narrow spring. Luckily I also have a bucket of parts from the now-deceased previous owner and, fingers crossed, I may find them.
You are welcome! Hope you find all the parts you need.
Jeff, perfect repair video, very detailed, keep up the good work brother
That you Paul!
Very handy info! The low pitch horn on my Falcon is kaput so this is once again a timely video. She sounds funny with just the high pitch horn 😋
Agreed! Glad you got it fixed
I have that exact same Fluke 77.I have had for about 30 years.Still works great.
Not sure if that one is Cam's or dad's it is a good unit
Much appreciated, working to solve the horn problem on my 63. I have the 63 original wiring diagram, based on what I have seen and what you have explained the wiring is the same with the 63 & 64.
Glad it helped. The X does have the abulity to control the transmission but I'm not sure if the harness is part of the kit.
Mac's has laminated color coded Galaxie wiring diagrams for around 10 bucks. Thats where I got mine and its spot on as far as wire color locations etc. Very pleased with it.
Cool.
Question, the connector you were testing for 12+v, is that the connector that connects to the horn relay? Thank you
great video. Thanks for the great info.
You are welcome.
you guys are awesome, thank you
We appreciate the compliment
Great information. I am lucky, the horns work on my 67 Mustang but I will bookmark this one for later reference.
Lol. I do that too.
Those dual horns sound so nice. I can't stand the old contacts on the spinning steering wheel though so I put a horn button on my dash.
If it works for you do it!
I have put a 22 rim fire case over the end with the spring and this makes it longer and fits hole better for the best contact! don't have to splice solder or anything, just clean the copper ring!
To be clear that is a spent .22, right? 🤣🤣🤣
@@AutoRestoMod Yes that's correct! That was told to me by an experienced Ford mechanic and it worked...
Thank you for the explanation
You are welcome!
I was expecting details on how to repair the horn, not the wiring, so this was a dissapointment.
Nice job.
Thank you!
Hey Jeff,
How long did it take for you to fix your horn? I'm thinking it was a 3 hour job
Not filming? 45 minutes to an hour. Now, finding the tools, losing the tools, taking phone calls, fielding children's requests...6 hours.
Great timing. My '70 Mustang Low pitch is snafu
Those are now available too!
My low tone 6 volt horn on my '53 didnt work. I ran a straight 12 volts to it. It grunted a little then opened up and it's fine now.
I wonder if (2) 12 volt batteries on a 12 volt horn would open it.
Pretty sure it is done. rheostat bar was glowing...
Wiring diagram ? The second thing I brought after my 66 econoline is an official shop Manuel. Includes the wiring schematics.
Some folks do not want to go to the expense of an entire shop manual set which can be kind of expensive. But a wiring diagram is cheap
Thanks Jeff, another great video. Those elbows look painful btw!
Weirdly, they don't hurt. Just unsightly.
Crazy question, 1979 F100 I am trying to swap out my transmission indicator light bulb for a working one, part of the turn signal switch assembly, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get to the light, pulled the steering wheel and that bulb is way inside much metal. This steering column is a tilt. omg do I have to remove the entire steering column to get to it?
Honestly I'm not sure.
@@AutoRestoMod I just figured it out. This model automatic with tilt has an old fashioned round socket bulb. The assembly just pulls out and it takes a little more tugging than I initially gave.
Will you ever do floor pans in a f100?
Did. Autorestomod episode 344.
@@AutoRestoMod thanks 😊
You can also go to your public library and they have wiring diagrams for your year of your car
That is cool! I would have never thought of that. Thanks!
I have a 88 mustang an my horn don't work so I tested the wire that goes to the horn and my tester light lit up and nobody is pushing horn , I think it don't suppose to come on until someone pushes horn
The wire on my 1966 Fairlane high horn got piping hot. Had to unhook it. This happened after I put a wood grain gt steering wheel on it
Don't think those two are related. I'd try a new horn.
Just got a 64 Falcon station wagon but the horn doesnt work☹️ Ill try this...when it warms up. No garagr either☹️
I'm REALLY starting to get cranky with no garage doors or power. It makes it doubly hard to do what we need to do here.
Hey Jeff. I have service bay electrical diagrams for 1968 Falcon, Fairlane and Montego that I scored at a swap meet. Anyone ever asks for help on that year I can look it all up.
Thanks! I have the hard copy assembly manuals for mine, but the inerwebs are no as friendly to our Fairlanes, Montegos and Falcons.
Hate to admit it but my horn is off of a Honda Valkyrie motorcycle. All I had handy at the time but it sounds decent. Gotta cut corners where you can🤦♂️
Probably saves weight too. Lol
The horn blows but not the driver!!! Nice vid.
Hahahahaha
What about t- birds?? I have 62
the light behind you looks like you had an idea.
I did...but I got over it. LOL
FORDification.com has wiring diagrams for 67-72 trucks
YES! I totally forgot to mention them.
I like watching your videos and try saving them in my "library". You will receive notification l have contributed through Patreon. No "shout out " for me, please..
Thanks forwatching!
I have working horns but people just don't " hear" them so I believe it's time for train horns
I've considered those...
YES! Do it
How fitting that even a broken horn blows in the tone of "F".
But of course.
fixed my horn like a Boy Scout!
Beep Repaired
BOOOOM! orrr BEEEEEEEEEP!
Shop manual? Good old fashioned way...no one will steal your information 😂
Right!?
Good! My Comet horn doesn't work.
Hope this helps
Remember, when you wave at other drivers make sure all fingers are extended. 🤚
THAT'S What I'm doing wrong...huh....
Digging the drapes on the copper water pipe.🤡
Lol missus thought I said copper pipe. I laughed so much I kept it.
