  • Thank you so much for joining me for another video! Today we explore Arthur's Pass National Park on New Zealand's mountainous South Island. We hike the main trek and I return a few days later to attempt the difficult Avalanche Peak summit in winter.

    We absolutely loved Arthurs pass when we went there. It was an absolutely incredible area, everything is so mountainous and rugged. Fair play for doing the Avalanche track in winter. We took one look at it and said 'nope' 😂😂 Looks incredible though!

      It was so much more beautiful than I was expecting! I feel like Arthur's Pass isn't talked about enough. I watched your video on the area too, we want to do Cave Stream when we're back in Chch. Need to really prepare for that one though!
      Avalanche Peak was a beast but if you go back to the park in the future I really think it's worth the first hour or so. It's really not that bad until you get way past the tree line.

      Thanks for watching :) Yes, BC and Alberta are very similar to this area of NZ. Lots of big mountains and beautiful lakes.

    I apologize for the belated message.
    Great drone video in the opening scenes, your own or stock video?
    It's good that you're aware of yourself-limits, knowing that,
    so you can hike another day,
    and shoot countless more awesome New Zealand videos!

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  Před rokem +1

      Donovan has a drone so it's our own footage! You're not allowed to use drones in national parks here so all of our shots are outside of the actual parks but you still get an idea of the terrain and beauty.
      Yes! We have to play it safe if we want to continue our adventures.

      @@brittanymorgan09 That was beautiful drone footage - would you happen to know approximately where along that highway you stopped? We are traveling to NZ next year and going through Arthur's Pass and would love to get some photos there!

      @@jenniferblakeney1581 hiya! It was definitely before the entrance to Arthur's Pass as you can't fly drones in any parks here. We stopped in a valley area and there was a trail head for Cass lagoon track, if you're going there from Christchurch, it's on the left! Hope that helps.

    I really wish we could have your packing for a 'walk' as an instructional video - all we'd need to add is sturdy shoes and letting someone know where you're going and plan to be back (pretty sure ypu did all that, but you weren't making an instructional video, lol!.) A huge problem we have here is that distances look closer than they are, and a six hour walk can turn really bad if the conditions change quickly (bloody island climate 😒). Also 'walk' doesn't sound strenuous enough for some of them - hell, our 'great walks' are all multi-day hikes!
    Honestly, what is wrong with us? 🤦‍♀️

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  Před rokem +1

      That is so true about the "walks" lol!! I also found it a bit confusing at first about the times listed on signs as they're one way times not roundtrip.
      That's a great idea for a video though! Start to finish how to prepare for a hike in NZ, love that. I might have to get that done! I want to do a bit more hiking here so I understand the terrain better.
