- Hi everyone, thanks for watching.
My cousin wanted to use again an old device to backup old VHS or alike.
At the moment of buying it he got to use it with Windows XP.
Now with newer computers and operating systems the device is no longer supported it seems.
So I built an XP computer to test it and also because I don't have a Pentium 4 system, this will be fun!
Thanks to my cousin Alex for the Dazzle and Andrew for the CPU case.
Hope you enjoy the video.
If you want you can subscribe and leave a like.
Cheers!

I remember seeing those dazzles a long time ago and wanting one so bad as a kid.
Thanks for your comment! I can imagine. Any accessories or hardware for PC was expensive for a kid. I remember wanting an audio interface, but I was lucky to have at least a PC my parents said, haha!
at my job, we use dazzle to capture audio directly from the soundboard to the pc in web conferences using RCA/P10, it still works very well today, in the past we used it with the polycom hdx 9000
Hey thanks for your comment! That’s great, interesting as well.
2:12 - i875 was a higher-end variant of i865, released around the same time. One significant difference was PAT memory mode, but some i865 motherboards also allow to run this mode, so it doesn't really matter.
funfact: despite higher number, i875 is older than 865 by one month :)
Thanks for your comment! Very interesting info there. Do you know if it’s worth getting an AGP pro card? I don’t have any experience with that.
@@restoredwards i dont think so, grab classic AGP and it should be fine
Good ol' Chieftec Dragon Fulltower! Had one in the early 2000s. :)
Hey there, thanks for your comment. Great to know the brand of the case, I couldn't find any model or something to identify it. Thanks for pointing it out.
Old Net/Sys Admin here..... Aww Man.... I miss those Chieftec cases. They are expensive on eBay. NewEgg had those full-towers on sale for $25 a pop back in the day. I had bought 4. I built a new personal system at that time. When I was ready to update my system, I gave away my old one "AS-IS" and built a new one using a new case. That repeated until I used the last of those Chieftec's. That was 2014.
@@jonspoonamore3721 thanks for sharing that! Cheers!
Still got this chieftec tower in green, been keeping it for years now.
@@jzarfas thanks for sharing. It seems a lot of people still use or own these towers.
Love that green case.
Sure it is! It has all 8cm coolers but I think if you play it good you could build a new system in there with no problems. It would be nice to test something like that.
holy shit i saw that thumbnail and went "I HAVE ONE OF THOSE" I still use one of those old Dragon ripoff Antec cases for my modern ryzen 7000 rig
Thanks for your comment! Great you still have it in use.
This is one of the reasons why I keep my Old machines around. I LOVE using Porsche design - Pinnacles s-VHS capture devices. I was able to capture video at the HIGHEST bit rate & color space possible to squeeze every last minutia of analog data from the tapes I was capturing
I also still have a almost new Firewire Dazzle device I have still to use, but will in the future.
If you have old Tapes this is the ticket, then take it into a modern machine to upscale all the footage . (Its getting better every year)
Now the next best thing? There are some CCTV systems that let you capture analog video even at S-VHS resolutions.
But they are far from ideal for color compared to these older capture cards.
The only thing I really kick myself buying was OTA capture card that worked with windows Media Center.
Never did I get around to using it. Would have been fun.
Hey thanks for your comment! That’s very interesting and useful. I’ll surely keep the machine and dazzle for this use.
I have that same Green Dragon case since 2001 that I keep upgrading and I have 2 Black Dragon cases and another black Raidmax Scorpio I keep because they are my favorite style cases.
Thanks for your comment! That’s neat!
Never had a custom back in those days, but I did have this 1999 business style Dell Dimension with a 1000Mhz Pentium 3 and 2x256k SD Ram, it was an absolute beast for the time period and I added an AGP GPU- GeForce 3 Ti 500 and a Ethernet card in it later on and I used to play Everquest on it all the way up to 2004 and I can't remember something died on it, I think it was the HDD. in 2004 I had an HP with a Pentium 4 NT 3.0 GHz, but it wasn't till 2007 and windows 7 that I actually built a custom computer myself. My current build in 2024 is a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk 32GB DDR5 6400 and an RTX 4080, so yes I'm still building them folks, but my my how times have changed!
Thanks for your comment! Nice machine you had back then, really interesting that Pentium 3. Glad you enjoyed building your last PC, it surely is a beast as well!
@@restoredwards My pleasure, I enjoyed watching you bring this old computer back to life, excellent content looking forward to more.
@@windowsalternative2203 Cheers!
Thought this was an Alienware at first, as their "Cyborg Green" was very popular back then.
You could search for 'Area 51 Chieftec' if you're curious, but this one is probably just the "Chieftec" part.
Thanks for your comment! Great man, I’ll be searching that.
Nice, been a while since i saw those, and the DC10/30 and DV's. Pretty common back when analogue video was still a thing. As for XP boxes, I'd keep an eye out for old Core i3/i5 2nd/3rd gen "office machines" from HP and Fujitsu in case you find them at "bargain prices", as they make amazing XP (and W7) machines, with lots of "free goodies" like DDR3, SATA and IGP in case you don't have any gfx card around..
Hey thanks for your comment! Yes I have something lying around to try a system like you say. Would be interesting to see how Debut would work there with Dazzle.
@@restoredwards Biggest difference should be on the CPU use and SATA (SSD?). If that Dazzle is the "uncompressed" variety it will be putting a LOT of pressure on both storage throughput and CPU for encoding. As for apps, even though I've used lots as part of my then job, funny enough i still find myself going back to VirtualDub for capture and rough cutting if possible as it's pretty reliable, very few headaches over 20 years :D
@@ErazerPT I’ll take a look at VirtualDub, great.
A neat build!👍👍
I would increase the ram to 4 gig., XP will see 3 and a bit, or add two 512 mb., ram modules to bring the total to 3 gig,.
Thanks for your comment! Yes more RAM will do a good job, I also have another motherboard, if everything goes fine I'll recap it and make a video adding RAM as well. Cheers!
Jigga Bite
That had me on a stretcher 😂
Hey thanks for noting that. I can’t imagine how you get when there’s a real problem then!
Cool
Thanks!
i also have a 3.2 ghz pentium 4 in it.
Nice!
i have the antec performance 2 case that's just like this one but no plexiglass panel just a solid panel.
That's interesting. Does it has Antec printed anywhere?
@@restoredwardsi don't think so but i do have the box and everything it came with. brand new at a thrift store....the feet and keys were still sealed
@@michaelwood9866that´s awesome. I didn´t show it but mine has the feet as well.
Please note that the G in Gigabyte is not pronounced like a J! It is pronounced the same as the G in the words go, got, give, etc.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, it’s been pointed out by several people so thanks. I live in Argentina and we say it like that and didn’t note it untill some distressed folks were aware of it. But I like it and it’s obvious what it means. Apart for pointing out wrong things, did you like anything else of the video?
mine works fine in win10 and OBS... maybe its because i have the red one?
Thanks for your comment! That’s interesting. Is it USB as well?
I wonder if this computer can Run Half Life 2
Thanks for your comment! We’ll have to make a bench video and see how it goes, cheers!
the dazzle works fine in win11, just do a little research.
Thanks for your comment. Instead of telling me what to do, why don't you share us all your experience?
I have that thing lying right here but it's a red version :/
Thanks for your comment, different color same device I suppose. People are not very happy with it.
@@restoredwards I wanted to use it to capture old vhs footage but the software was xp-only if i remember right, and even passing it through to a vm it refused to capture my PAL recorder's footage :( I had better luck with a simple PCI capture card of theirs back in the day.
the pinnacle software always was a clunky pain as well, I'm sure that didn't help.
@@interlace84 yes that’s right, and Vista, which is the same basically. Another user, Bradley, said in another comment that he still uses it with Windows 10 and OBS. Have you tested that casually?
its not ziga hertz
Hi there, and what is it then ?
