I counted 95 tanks. I'm back, 3 years later, September 2023, still counting. This time I count 97 tanks, and about 14 are single oads in the front of the train, the rest double loads.
These are M1s, and M1IPs being taken out of long storage in the high desert. They are on their way to Aniston Alabama to be broken down for rebuild. Once broken down they will be retrained and sent to Lima Ohio to become M1A2SEPV3s.
Well captured. Three different angles and different places. No shaking of camera. Never a dull moment for the train enthusiasts. The sirens in the beginning and no train visible, add drama to the incoming giant! Great video!
wow wow WOW this is Awesome. Ive been there a few times, seen lots of great trains there and along 58 but nothing like this / So Cool you share it with us thank you!
Former Abrams operator here. Never got to see the trains travel between bases, as I was at either end waiting for them. I also became the UMO (Unit Movement Officer) who's job is to supervise and plan the rail movement of the vehicles. Every one of those tanks has fuel (not much admittedly) and is capable of being driven for a good distance. All ammo and installed weapons like the mounted machine guns are not present however for obvious reasons. The most back breaking part is doing the tiedown thing, and after that guiding the vehicles just so onto the cars is much harder than you think. Another important thing to note is that Abrams tanks (and Bradley IFV's) aren't driven everywhere. We transport them via truck (HEMTT) to the loading and unloading zones. Driving the vehicle is only done in short distances for maintenance or fueling, longer distances are only traveled for training exercises and proper war. I could keep going, but congrats for reading this far! Best job I ever had!
Lifelong UK Railway enthusiast enjoyed watching all twelve plus minutes of that. Thanks for posting. Maybe an illusion created by the lens, considering the size of the USA, what surprised me was to see the very tight radii of some of the curved parts of those sections of track. Here in little old UK, such tight curves are rare. We have long freight trains in the UK ~ helps keep freight off our traffic laden Roads and Motorways, but nowhere near as long as you have over there. Impressive stuff.
i used to work for sp signal here in the 1980s. what a amazing exciting place. non stop trains 24/7 365. probably one of the best places in america for rail fans, (also cajon pass about 100 miles southeast of here on interstate 15) this is no place for inexperienced engineers and conductors. very easy to stringline a train out here. (pulling lighter weight cars off the tracks around a curve if there is too much weight on the back of the train. generally a train should be loaded heaviest cargo front. a 4500' train will cross over itself here on the over pass. i worked out of palmdale but loved it when we had jobs in mojave and tehachapi
I lived near the Cajon pass and have seen some of the longest trains I've ever seen there. I once seen a train that had at least 80 striker fighting vehicles on it, it was very cool.
Wow! A real train. I live in Calgary Alberta where we see DPU and 200car trains all the time all the time, not down east, where a 60 car consist is “spectacular” . Absolutely great job!
I saw a similar train leaving the ALCO Plant in Schenectady, NY loaded with Patton tanks headed for Korea in the early 19590's. Just part of our Forever War.

Those all look like older model M1's. Like M1A1. None have the independent commander's sight found on the M1A2, and several are missing road wheels - most commonly the middle two. Also looking at the variety of paint schemes (tan, olive, and three-color NATO) I think that these are all older model tanks going to disposal or possibly remanufacture into newer versions.
@nowonyuno They use modified M113's at the NTC to represent threat vehicles. M1's would be horribly expensive to run as OPFOR vehicles due to the cost of running their turbine engines.
probably God forgot about America .... it is especially clearly visible - with COVID-19 as an example! Life is life! The dream remains on the pillow, and tough reality pulls jeans pockets M1 Abrams - burned well in Iraq
Just seen this same convoy in spokane about 40 days ago, coming from west, seattle, and was heading east towards idaho panhandle.. 7/29/22. Today's date, approximately 6/15/22 Ish

Well, you can doubt all you want, but happens in other countries as well, not sure if was abrams tanks, but came from Esbjerg to one of the baltic states through DK,didnt drive so slow though, but also not so many!
Just assorted Abrams variants going to the Lima plant to be overhauled? Only once seen something like that coming from Arizona to Michigan, the train, I think, had Bradleys on it. Saw it somewhere in the desert, passed over the bridge and only got a quick glance.
Back in the '90s we and our friends used to drive up to the loop and sit and watch for the train. I counted 97 Abrams, close to the number required for a Second Division Armored Brigade, I believe. That's supposed to be about 116 MBTs. This train was hauling about 6300 tons of MBTs.

One of the best produced train videos I have ever seen. Well done!!!

I LOVE Military Trains!! and this one is fabulous!!
every penny spent on machines of destruction robs society of benefits, like universal health care, education, housing.
Tanks a lot for the upload 😉
Largest railroad company on the earth supplying the most powerful army on the earth. Bravo!!
Perfect clip!👍👍👍

Why have some of those tanks have two wheels off, and it's the same two wheels?

I had railhead with this type of convoy while in the army and very impresive to see and be part of it.The rain conductors are very awsome GBUS.

I was thinking the same thing. Some of them looked like they were in pretty rough condition.
Amazing. Iam lucky to see such video's.👋👋👋
God, bless the USA!
Greatings from Russia! M1 Abrams my favorite MBT!

waw. this was just exciting, the battle tanks were transported.
Never seen a real train before, would love to travel and enjoy these lovely sights of trains

Very impressive !
Amazing video very interesting 👌👏👍🙏 Thank you 🙏
Unbelievable❤️From India 🇮🇳
Brilliant catch !
Hermoso vídeo me fascinan las locomotoras me crié cerca de ellas
Many of them appear to be very worn, even damaged.
best video I have ever seen. wow. nice job dude. holy crap what an excellent video. Damn time for a cigarette.
That's a first for me. I've never seen a tank train before!
WikdSeafood You must have never partied with your parents.
WikdSeafood I was train hopping on one lol

Aloha~beautiful video..could you tell me type of camera/setting you have used for videos thank you!👍🤙👊
97 tanks!
6 engines
👍
It could have carried 13 more tanks totalling 110 tanks
I was lucky enough to see a train going over Tehachapi.
Who cares saddo 🤷🏿♂️
This is the horseshoe curve at Caliente. I believe he’s going east to Tehachapi pulling the hill. I always enjoyed my visit in the area.
The physics of locomotives and freight trains never cease to amaze me. All that weight on such little surface area between wheels and rails.
ذ١نيك ن😍نز
Contact surface is about the size of a dime (wheel to rail) from what I remember!!!!!!
@@richramik2092 it's crazy isn't it! Tons and tons and tons of train sitting on the surface area of the size of a dining room table.
@@cbrown717 amazing....

Super cool ! , I doubt I'll ever see this any where else. I have some trains that run through the nearby area and find them impressive .

do they use a helicopter to unload the military vehicles from the train? sorry for getting off topic.
They are probably headed to Anniston army Depot or the Lima army tank plant for rebuiding
John McLaurin. Yes maybe lima tank plant where some of my family worked rip Darrel music or mountain man
97 Tanks for rebuilding or scrapping. Looked rough missing parts, rust, an overall lack of maintenance.
@@adamb.1786 probably scraped, M1 shown pretty much out of date . I think I also saw a couple of M1A1s aswell.
Probably sending old M1's to the Marines.
Sharpe Army depot maybe?
Totally awesome!

Great video! Never seen so many tanks being transported. Looks like they're bound for retrofit.
If going east bound over the mountain, probably going to MCSLB in Yermo, Ca for refinement....
i think your right i noticed some of those tanks have road wheels missing so refit or retirement
wow! super Big! my son loves your videos! Like
My guess is they're on the way to the boneyard for long term storage. A lot of them look old and need to be retired.
