      The cap retention on the Kobalt screwdriver is of no importance to me or other tool users. It’s a minor issue...if at all.

    I didn't really need this but after seeing your video, it became an impulse buy as Lowe's had them near the self checkout. I grabbed the larger ratchet version without even thinking about it. It holds my little Chapman torx bits firmly in spite of the ball detent on those bits. Also followed your suggestion and added a #18 o ring onto the cap threads. Works like a champ!

    I miss your reviews - hope you do more video soon. Bought both the precision and large ratcheting models about a year ago based on this review. They are both fantastic. The bit holder mechanism is the best I've used and the ratcheting is smooth and very quick when putting in a fastener before you need to apply torque. Husky now sells one with the same bit holder but has bits stored in the handle - it's also very nice.

    Thanks for making this video! I've had the precision version for a while, I very much enjoy using it, and I didn't know that there was a full-sized version available until I watched this video. Not too long ago I purchased the full-sized version and it's a great tool for me. I think you covered basically everything good about it. Also, using the full-sized screwdriver along with socket adapters make it very versatile. The only thing that I don't like is that there seems to be no 5/32" bits or bit sets available; and that really has little bearing on the actual screwdriver.

    Thank you so much for this. My Father passed away in 2017 and it's taken me this long to be able to look at (and use) his tools. I had no idea how to change the "thing" on this screwdriver (you should see the scratches I made, trying to use pliers lol). So glad I found your page. Thanks again- I was able to tighten up our faucets- finally.

    I do like my Kobalt ratcheting screwdriver but I think it was just a bad design to include bits that are too long to fit in the handle. That is the only thing I do not like.

    Really good and thorough review. I recently bought the 10-1 ratcheting, and it's a really nice tool for $12. Odd that they included bits that don't fit in the handle, but I didn't buy it for the bits. The Kobalt tools I've bought in the past have been good quality, and this one seems to be no exception.

    Thanks for this video. I searched the interweb for months looking for a bit driver like this. I bought the non ratcheting 1/4" just because I didn't like how big the the ratcheting one is. The bits that it come with are fine if you wanna carry them around or store them. Stupid how they don't fit in the handle storage area. I wasn't interested in that style of bit anyway. I wanted 1"x1/4" traditional bit storage. So my next issue was finding an insert that holds 12 bits to store in the handle. No luck to find one by itself. So I found one that was close in a husky bit driver. I drilled the handle out to accommodate the husky bit holder, used your o-ring idea, and bam. I now have the exact thing I was looking for. Absolutely love it. So many options with one comfortable, cool looking handle. Thanks again

    A well done video. Thanks so much. One comment to Kobalt. I bought the Precision 14 in 11 screwdriver set.. Kobalt SHOULD have made the extra bits just a little bit shorter so they could fit inside the handle. This will make it Much easier to carry around. Thanks.

  • @julienielsen3746
    @julienielsen3746 Před rokem +1

    I couldn't figure out how to take out the bit that it came with. I was fooling with it while watching your video. Did you show how to remove a bit? Didn't look like you said to push the silver part toward the handle to do that. I had thrown away my instructions after I got it thinking it would easy enough to figure out without instructions later. I kept twisting and pulling. Not thinking push toward the handle. I have the little precision one.

  • @thomasniner001
    @thomasniner001 Před 8 lety +1

    The only downside is the handle not storing the long bits. Kobalt could have made the handle just a little longer for storage. Just a little more plastic would make this a great tool.

    • @maxbls16
      @maxbls16 Před rokem

      I know you commented a long time ago but husky seems to have license the loading mechanism and has long bit storage.

  • @jpozenel
    @jpozenel Před 8 lety

    I just picked up that large one today and it works really well. The extra bits supplied are nice but as you said they are too long to fit in the handle. I have plenty of others, so that isn't a problem. Used a #18 o-ring above the threads on the handle and that is an improvement. I have a bit that can be used for driving sockets, so I think I'll be getting some use out of this thing. Thanks for the review. (Has anyone ever told you that you sound a lot like Adam Carolla?)

    +Real Tool Reviews - I know this video was posted a while ago but I have a question about a feature on these handle sets I think should have been covered in this review...
    I have one of Kobalt's 'Double Drive' screwdrivers which has the same type of Quick Load mechanism built in. Though with mine, it came with a set of the slightly longer than standard 1/4" double-ended bits (the same size as the single shorter bit that came with the two larger handle sets in the video), a set of the long 1/4" thick double-ended bits, AND a set of the long 5/32" thick precision double-ended bits (same size as the bits that came with the smaller handle in the video). The same mechanism on the one Double Drive screwdriver I have will actually hold BOTH the 1/4" thick bits AND the 5/32" precision bits (very well I might add), which is a very cool feature because I don't need more than one handle for big or little screws. The thing that sucks about mine though is, it does not properly hold standard short single-ended bits. They fit in the tip and it holds them from falling out but they are too short and are too recessed into the shaft to work very well. The only bits I can use are the ones that came with the set.
    My question is, will either of the larger two handles you're reviewing in this video hold the thinner 5/32" precision bits properly, or not? I was surprised it wasn't mentioned in the video and I'm honestly wondering if you were even aware that the mechanism on the larger handle is capable of doing that (if it is possible on these model handles that is)? You should try it (if you still have these handles around anyway) and edit the video (or just reply to this comment) with your discovery. Thanks!
    I thoroughly enjoy your videos, by the way. I appreciate your very honest and informative professional opinion of these products. I find your reviews to be very helpful when I'm shopping for a new tool. Thank you for sharing.

    The bit end looks like a total "win", but the storage handle appears to be a total "fail". Why wouldn't they have made it a 1/2" longer to accommodate the long bits that come with it? +Real Tool Reviews Do you have (or could make) a video comparing the different brands of 1/4" hex quick-change adapters? I used to have a cheap Black & Decker that was awesome, but lost it. Thought I found and exact replacement, but turns out it releases the bit by sliding the collar out instead of in and it doesn't hold bits very snug (they wobble). I haven't found a good one since.

    while I enjoy most reviews this looked and sounded like a Kobalt commercial. especially when comparing it to the 6 in 1 tool and trying to pretend they don't have a 1/4" side to hold bits. also, unless they changed their usual plastic use and design, they are nowhere as sturdy as many of the tools they are meant to replace. (they could fix it by making the handle solid)

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  Před 8 lety

      +Mike Zupancic Well, the 6-in-1 does not hold 1/4" bits (unless they have a ball detent as shown). The other side will not hold a bit securely. I like this new design, and these are a brand new version --- not a repackage of the same old screwdrivers you are probably familiar with. Keep in mind.....100% of my reviews are for legitimate tools. Go to Lowes and check them out for yourself.
