pitchfork gave this 4.4. Someone should ban that publication from publishing reviews on shit they cant comprehend.
Bossun7 no one takes pitchfork seriously because they constantly delete articles and always have bias
Bossun7 I don't even care about some mainstream publications reviewing hip hop albums ..... Some don't respect real rap and support wack shit .... let the true fans love it ...fuck ya opinion 😎😐
Realnigga Turner ya opinion? I aint pro-pitchfork bruh 😒
Bossun7 lol so if they don't agree with you they "can't comprehend". Yeah ok
Bossun7 I didn't mean you lol ... I meant pitchfork .... error in typing
Its so dope how TDE knows about DEHH and watches every review
a interview with any of the members of TDE needs to happen next year!
goodrapmusic have they ever said anything about dehh? I'm just wondering cause it'd be cool if they did.
+Lil Wayne's Teeth I've never seen they talking about but I know they watch dehh, Top Dawg love the reviews!
Kendrick mentioned their TPAB review in an interview.
+Raymond Friendly oh yeah I totally forgot about that.
Soul is kinda an enigma. He'll drop some super metaphorical and deep bars, and then some are just kinda dumb. Not dumb as in wack, dumb as in just silly.
That what makes him a personality!!! Is this bar Wack or amazing? the uncertainty makes it an exiting listen
Lines such as "Let me put my mouth where you potty, boo" lol
This album is fucking fire though.
Brandon Standifer He is the equivalent of the pretentious Progressive Rock band that has a lot of talent to it but has the most scatterbrained mind. It almost feels the point though. Out of the 3 TDE Kings, Schoolboy is the dude for the simpletons, (That isn't a bad thing at all though) Kendrick is the guy looking to push the envelope every damn time, and Ab Soul kinda just does what he wants when he wants
Brandon Standifer do you know the instrument at the beginning?
Tyler Shaina I fuck with Q, I ain't no simpleton though.
DWTW > 4 Your Eyez Only
Aidan Moore nah
Aidan Moore literally anything ever > 4 Your Eyez Only
True
I like them both equally for different reasons
Aidan Moore two different albums, soul album is a lot deeper
I think soul did the parallelism between MOM and 666 because he is stating that not only god is a woman, but also the devil is. So, if this is the case, ab is saying that women can be both a source of enlightment, beauty and graciousness, but also a form of filthyness and sin. your place in all of this depends on which of the two type of women you WANT to follow, which relates back to the "Do what thou wilt" theme... listening to soulo is so mind exercising. Shit has 60 different meanings and sometimes you're not even able to explain one of them...
anyways this is a great fuckin album
alberto Dedominicis that's a pretty good explanation
An amazing take...
I was thinking the same after i heard the MOM skit. Are women God or the devil... being both would make the most sense... especially with the innocence and guilty bar Myke mentioned.
So glad Myke touched on Evil Genius, that song touches a nerve every time. Especially with Alori Joh singing at the end.
Sooftah The beat at the end was incredible
Sooftah me and my friend were super high and were crying Everytime the singing came on
Sooftah do you know the instrument at the beginning?
Sooftah do you know the instrument at the beginning?
hint, the chants themselves at the beginning of Evil Genius have their own meaning as well.
Old Ken lookin like black uncle Iroh with that beard
hAnus criminal hes fire nation as fuck
hAnus criminal ma nigga tho😂😂😂
hAnus criminal AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Bruh😂😂😂😂
Can we just take a moment to give props to modest and the crew for all the reviews they've been cranking out to end the year. Appreciate all the content!
IMO
1.Atrocity Exhibition
2. We got it from here... Thank you 4 your service
3. Do What Thou Wilt.
Kyle Taylor best of 2016
only 19 minutes into the review at this point and myke brought up the mom 666 bar, i took it as him saying the "system" is subconciously telling us from a young age, even in our technology, that women equal evil, or have some sort of negative connoctation (sp?) to them. loving it so far, and im glad to see that the crew seems to be enjoying it! I bought myself and my best friend a hard copy from tde's website and am jusy waiting for a vinyl release now! keep up the great content!
He also takes it a step further in an attempt to convey how deeply this pervasive attitude of subtle (and sometimes blatant) sexism is pushed upon us by challenging the Holy Trinity and saying it promotes sexism by alluding to the fact that parts of Christianity are based on parts Ancient Egyptian theology of which one is the existence of 3 deities known by their (hellenised) names of Osirus, Isis, and Horus; the father, the mother, and the son. They are the basis for the modern day Holy Trinity except today its The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. The mother is missing. wtf. Maybe Isis wasn't omitted at beginning, who knows? But we do know that somewhere along the way Christians ditched her. The question now is was it due to just plain jane sexism or something more sinister, and why does it seem like somewhere someone is putting in considerable effort to create so many sexist "coincidences" like the mom bar and his 1st verse on Now You Know.
+nicecardude also interesting how he references God being a girl. But Satan too using "she" at the beginning of threatening nature too and the M O M thing
Zane Fox for me I thought he was referring to the theme of "God's a woman" and the "Chicken came before the egg" hypothesis. Possibly inferring that the Devil is a woman as well? I might be wrong, feel free to check me on this.
man, this is why i love this album. it has real rap fans out here discussing LYRICS. oh, it feels good to be at this point again! really enjoying reading how others took the bar.
Since Ab Soul is assuming that God is a She maybe the Devil is too
Album of the year. 🔥🔥🔥 #SouloHo3
Blank Face no
KLN The Sun's Tirade
KLN blond was overhyped and overrated
no... thank you for your service
id say its good, i rate Aesop Rocks Impossible Kid is the best album of the year. IMO
"I'm lowkey, like a locksmith working on both knees" one of my favorite lines in the album
"All i got is goddesses, I'm a heroin addict"
@@saneleonly is that supposed to be some kind of double entendre??
@@awonkemsutu3866 I'm lowkey = I'm loki
@@cosmicrays575 I was talking about the heroine addict line. Also how does loki tie into the locksmith line? Sounds like a reach
@@awonkemsutu3866 the heroin addict line is a referenced to an old ab-soul line on these days. He's saying "all I got is goddesses, I'm a heroin/heroine addict. And loki in Norse Mythology is known to be a trickster or mischievous. When I hear soul say "I'm lowkey/loki, like a locksmith (figure of speech) working on both knees" I'm interpreting him saying he's playfully unlocking someone's kneecaps.
I love DWTW, Ab Soul is definitely one of the deepest thinkers in Hip Hop, one of my fave albums of the year !!!
This album was heavily influenced by Lupe Fiasco, as he's his mentor. Lupe must be proud AF. Like DRUGS is an acronym made by Lupe which means, Don't Ruin Us God Said.
RizzyWow yeah I agree ..... AB said many times he look up to Lupe :)
RizzyWow sounded like lupec a lot still dope
RizzyWow I wish Lupe had a verse on D.R.U.G.S. like Soul had a verse on T.R.O.N. though
I always thought that the cover of Control System looks similar to the cover of The Cool
RizzyWow I don't get how fans always state things , with no confirmation or evidence from the artist lol
On the relevance of Thelema to DWTW as an album. Crowley's whole thing was that if you follow your own will, or what the universe has willed for you, you will find success, right?
So, look at his discography. There's Control System, wherein he's openly himself - an anarchist and occultist, or at the very least someone with anarchist/occultist tendencies and thoughts. Critical darling, gets Ab a feature on every album, he's the new hotness for a moment there in underground rap.
Then we have These Days, where he is trying to produce a mainstream album and it sounds like Ab fucking going to work at a desk job, having to supress himself. Everyone finds it boring, thinks that Ab's fallen off.
So he's Doing As He Will, or his will, meaning the universe's will for him. He's following the law, he is following the path laid out for him, in the Thelemic trust that if he does what he is best and was meant to do, he will find success. He will no longer attempt to fit into other's perceptions of who he should be and will be himself in all his glory. Which is why the album was as great as it was, and some pretty core Thelemic ideas.
Anyway, an interpretation of the significance of the title on DWTW.
The word maricon is Spanish for “faggot”.
It also sounds quite like “American”.
By saying that an atom is a molecule, he is pointing out that a molecule is a compound of atoms but an atom is a compound of protons, neutrons and electrons. So in a sense, an atom is a molecule of subatomic particles too.
That’s why the atom said, “‘Cause he is me and I am him…”
Just for some clarification, great review!!!
I'm just as,if not more, happy than you guys that Ab-Soul returned with some major heat!
I bet if you went back and listen to These Days... You'll see that album was actually dope.
Ab-Soul redeemed himself with this album!!! Had me worried after These Days...
WE GOTTA GET DEHH ON SWAY THO
Harry Verolme frfr
HOW??
The very last song YMF.. repeats lines about being a liar and deceiver... makes you question everything he said.. bigging up women...god is a woman...you pray to god on your knees but get on your knees to propose to a woman... referencing the Adam as a fag.. ect.. the song YMF saying i'm a liar and deceiver makes you question ok what did he mean... The mom = 666 .. I took that as mother nature and it's said that Satan is the God of this world.. didn't let a woman say one word in the bible... maybe i'm crazy but just thinking this whole time he was referring to the devil as a woman.. That's how I took it. lines like i'm here to baffle them like the Baphomet... The Baphomet is a transgender image.. Just think he meant Satan is a transgender woman or whatever
WHOA.... LET ME ADD.....Satan wants to be like the most high God... What do we see these days...This wide spread of women wanting to be more than or equal to men... and you definitely see men being feminized.. then him throwing out the idea God is a woman and man is made in God's image.. i'm reaching but i'm reaching for answers
It DoestMatter he also could be lying about being a liar 👁
FLair exactly but he said that for you to come up with your own answers he doesn't want to flat out tell you what he really thinks. He put it out there.. Young Mind Fuck at it's finest
Interesting interpretation
This is a really cool piece of insight!!!!
Personally, I hear more Lupe Fiasco than Jay-Z in terms of double entendres/ punchlines and the way Ab-Soul constructs them.
Kane San Miguel Yea hesa big Lupe fan, and his influence is clear on this album
That's what I was thinking as well. I know Jay is in there. I think the way he conceptualized his album with all the hidden gems is def an influence by Lupe. It reminds me of Tetsuo and Youth in that sense. Which, Ab's song D.R.U.G.S. stands for, Don't Ruin Us God Said. Which Lupe coined. Lu's Album forth coming album, Drogas which is Drugs points to another influence.
Lupe has him on a song on Tesuo and Youth
I NEED A BLACKHIPPY ALBUM
Soulo spitting that real, but the masses rather hear J. Cole rap about almond milk and claim hip hop is dead
MrGNugget what's the crime in listening to both? I'm bumpin both albums right now.
Keywan Bernard exactly both is good
MrGNugget Lmao but Nah J. Cole nice too
Hornier than the brass section in the band
Pisce X lol
Man I can't wait till LT3 if he stays on this track 🔥
BLVCK LORD he only sold 10k first week bruh :(
He never gonna be big like a Kendrick tho and I think he doesn't want to be
BlackGod King1995 I asked around it's that the mainstream audience real doesn't like his production and or his style but if he dre signs him or somthing it is possible
Kenon Lattimore LT3 will only come when he's 'rich and famous' yet the fans aren't supporting him
we still waiting...
So y'all didn't catch the line were he said " it's been a drill to be ill you ain't really sick who you amusin next?"
Young Flourish lol yeah Benadryl and mucinex but that's a light bar for soul bro there's sooo many
Young Flourish that shit was corny
+Aarif Majeed damn that was corny?
When you have a bar like that there's always gonna people that think that any type of wordplay is corny regardless of how clever it is
Kevin Banks Benadryl - the medicine. Maybe it's a double entendre.
I thought Blank Face was better than this imo. But Soul definitely stepped up from these days. Good album overall, but nothing crazy like everyone is making it out to be
I AM THE LIQUOR well it also depends on who you're more a man of. We all here fans of TDE but I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're in the Q or Jay base? ( also yes I'm part of Soulo base)
Boy hell nah. I respect your opinion tho
Halpher W
Terrence Cureton mm but Q Album, majority was out of his comfort zone so it's hard to say that album please
All q fans cause it was different
Rolling Stoned calm down
You guys should try to get an interview with ab soul
4 Your Eyez Only put Myke to sleep. DWTW woke him the fuck up!
Is anyone ever going to bring up the dude rapping in the pen? His flow was insane lol
Keyser Soeze BR3?
Bedcorn I get hyped every time I hear that part
with this penitentiary mindset, is it my fate? for God sakes, why did I have to loose the case? I kept it real. and I ain't never been fake, I'm feeling like biggie when he lost faith. Mann remember that off top, so so dope
I can't say this enough but if you are an up and comer trying to make it, you can take a lot away from these reviews. It's refreshing to hear 4 different perspectives as opposed to one or two.
StupidIsAsStupidDoe2 that would be me, I watch all their reviews.
The Abstract Asshole! Top 3 album of 2016.
Stephen C others are blank face lp and suns tirade
FLuX Nemo Tbh there's a lot of good albums of 2016. Danny Brown, Royce, Atmosphere, YG, Crooked I, albums you mentioned, etc.
Stephen C rtj3 just dropped and fucked up everbodys list lol
+music lovers. Bruhh.. I know! El-P and Killer Mike took me by surprise! This dropped before Jan. This is going to be #1 for 2017 too fck it. 🔥🔥🔥
Ab-Soul is the true feature killer. No shade to Q, but Ab-Soul is the only rapper to kill Kendrick AND Lupe on their own tracks. Js
i think maybe an soul meant that Adam was born alone. and that he didn't know he was a man until eve was created. in a sense Adam was gay because he only knew of man until woman was created
Zod Magus well, this has me thinking a lil deeply now
He was the only man.. That don't mean he's gay
"L L L Look!" - Feefo
Yo, first off, we need more people that are like every single member of DEHH in this world, what Ken said about being immersed in the album from beginning to end helped me get more and truly appreciate what dwtw has to offer, thank you guys, please stay amazing! Second, I liked These Days and initially while I enjoyed this album, it wasn't until this review that I realized the genius that ab-soul has to offer, this album absolutely blows These Days out of the water! Flow and delivery wise ab-soul is unique but what makes him especially unique is analyzing his lyrics. I prefer not to overthink what rappers have to say, but like you guys said, with ab-soul, you don't truly get and enjoy the experience unless you really listen to what he says. Thinking about it, it's a shame that other members of Black Hippy don't get more promo, not to take anything away from Kendrick, but this album makes Kendrick look boring! I had fun listening to souls lyrics and trying to figure out what he says, and from my understanding it is truly beautiful what ab-soul has to offer in his music, kind of reminds me of to pimp a butterfly, minus the presentation of the way ab-souls album is presented, Lonely Soul, Now you know, and Invocation were definitely one of the best tracks on the project.
Good job DEHH. I was not expecting you guys to put this review up that quickly.
holly shit feefo took his review game up nowadays
in old phones in which you had to press a key multiple times to get different letters, m and o are both on the number 6, so basically mom is equal to 666
Ab Soul with fire lyrics and wordplay as usual! His content always keeps me interested even though the album is long. DWTW second only behind Control System for my favorite Ab Soul album
Religion was an on going theme throughout the album and maybe thats how it relates to Thelema the idea of Aeons in Thelema is something you should look into. He says Genesis really means the ''genealogy of Isis'' and criticizes people for referring to the eye of Horus as just a symbol. Hope this helps Myke, you guys keep up the good work youve got a new sub.
DWTW, blank face, thank you for your service, and kairi Chanel are the best tapes I heard all year
he carried the word "pen" through out the second half of the second verse on the song Huey Knew that shit was crazy
bro that Braille concept is kinda dope man
Huey Knew THEN=Huey Newton. Huey Percy Newton was an African-American political activist and revolutionary who co-founded the Black Panther Party in 1966. He also had a Ph.D. in social philosophy. This song may be Ab's way of explaining why people are separated. So he uses the whole thing about women throughout this album to represent the separation that humanity as a whole create from hatred masked in what people think is love. This is why Crowley believed that love and hate are synonymous, which is what Ab-Soul agrees with and is also a portrayal in itself of how love can be masked with hate as well. This is shown by how a man of "evil" (Crowley being a satanist) can also shine light on a truth that can lead to "good". This leads to the title of the album, "Do what thou wilt", meaning no matter what, why, or how you live, you are alive. Therefore, being alive is embodied by a gift of a choice- "What, why, and how will one live?" or is the choice-"Does one live at all?" This ideology is circular, which feeds into the ideology that there is no measurement of objective right and wrong, only measurement of whether alive or dead. This leaves (I'll speak for myself) me stuck as Ab-Soul seems to be, which is portrayed on the cover by his frustrated body language, distraught facial expression, and grey backdrop, as in society, "the grey area" represents the uncertain state of being. Circular ideology means that there is no beginning nor end, which Ab portrays when he says his hypothesis is that the chicken came before the egg. Therefore he is befuddled and uneasy, which is ALSO portrayed (yes so much goddamn "portrayal" in this album, haha) by the musical side, which is most directly portrayed by the haste in his vocal inflection and flow and the darkness to the instrumentals.
Ahh, ahora ya término. I am finally finished now. Even if all of this thought process is baloney, on behalf of the youth of the hip hop community, we appreciate you, Ab, for giving a canvas for music listeners to brainstorm on.
And shout out to DEHH for reacting to Ab's provoking. My fandom is life-long. Salute
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will.
Best feminist album ever
The Great Magnet I swear!
+Trusty Dusty that's the opposite of what feminism tries to do. Just because a man does something nice or speaks truth on behalf of women does not mean that they have to give him sex. You missed the whole point of the feminist themes in the album.
The Great Magnet can you really call it feminist tho lol
Malcolm X He's referencing a lyric from the album lol
I think the american flag line is basicly about how the founding fathers had no intentions of actually extending the rights they were creating with the constitution to women. I think absoul is just calling them fags, i dont think he means it in a literal way, but hes just saying it because their actions seemed to be totally void of any consideration or concern for women when they were founding the nation.
Fantastic review, glad you guys loved it because I think it is fantastic. Probably better even than Blank Face LP. Too bad you guys didn't talk about "YMF" I love that track, perfect outro
HANG ON A MINUTE, I THOUGHT U HATED DEHH?
Gaits Maria Legae
Excuse me? Source, please?
Sedrick U were out here bitching to Ken sum months ago.
Gaits Maria Legae
Hell yeah I was bitching to Ken because he was doing some very fucked up shit. He has not done it in a while now, but he was saying some serious bullshit and I don't just mean like, Oh I disagree with his opinion on this album. I mean he was saying some problematic shit. I don't hate Ken or anything like that, and how can me being mad at something Ken said be interpreted as me HATING all of DEHH? I don't even hate Ken, AT ALL, let alone ALL of DEHH! You seriously need to watch who you are accusing of what.
Sedrick Well ur bitching came off like u was hating and little too much in ur feels.
Probably my favorite hip hop album all year
Lmao
+SpeaKOn It lololololol
Im glad that ab-soul is not mainstream .
DWTW > 4YEO
This album sold 8,000 copies the first week. So many people liked it. Cole album sold 500k the first week. A lot of people hated it.🤔🤔🤔
Bahbinski He's way more popular than Ab Soul plus his message is simple asf
BlackGod King1995 did you buy ab souls album?
BlackGod King1995 how was his msg simple?
J Cole has the Roc Nation/Interscope machine backing him (plus a track log of well received projects).
Ab-Soul, for all of the acclaim of his camp, is signed solely to Top Dawg Entertainment (having yet to have a project available in stores).
the scale is different, regardless of the actual product.
scipio2009 that's not J. Coles fault. Cole is more relatable and will always sell better
2 reviews in 2 days, bless up
This is actually the best RAP album of the year Donald glovers shit is album of the year but this shit! Hands down solo got award for best RAP album of the year, also glad to see he's back this album feels like control system on steroids FACTS
Love Myke for mentioning that beautiful ass Donkey Kong water level like beat on Evil Genius
You acting like it's been a drill to be ill you ain't really sick who you amusing next?!
KNWLDGE who you a musinex
KNWLDGE that's fuckin light smh
KNWLDGE "ooh you a Mucinex"*
KNWLDGE Benadryl
Hey ModestMedia are you guys planning on reviewing Cudi's album?
I actually liked These Days. This album is dope too
Who's next after SZA? K Dot or Rock? I remember I saw a white board with all the next releases from TDE but I don't remember much of it.
Rock should be next to go. Kendrick had the "get Top on the phone" next to his name on the whiteboard, and that came with untitled unmastered.
don't forget about John Doe 2, and the whiteboard also noted a possible Black Hippy album.
My guess is that SZA is next, and then you're going to see a TDE world tour (with Jay Rock and Kendrick likely still cooking up their projects, Id assume that the next project that's being worked on would be the Black Hippy album/compilation)
Gab I think a new artist, then Black Hippie a album. They all dropped, and the time frame is perfect for making an album together
I think Kendrick and SZA are next. 😉
Great review fellas! Album is sick!!!
I don't think Ab believes is God or the Devil to be honest, it doesn't matter to be honest. I mean look at the comments, he got people talking about him. That was the purpose. Not converting people's religion, just to get people to talk. And he did a good job. The whole album is full of contradictions. People pick up on what they want to. He's playing everyone.
Noah West I can tell you really understand ab-soul 😎
Ain't a Patreon yet. But I just hit that notification button for y'all. Baby steps.
Oh and the reason there were so many beat switch ups is because they were separate songs they just decided to put together kinda like pieces that they kinda made seg-way and connect together. I thought that was dope. I think Evil Genius was like that as well with the outro. I think that was mentioned in his Breakfast Club interview
Love watching your reviews... you guys guide me to new music!
Love the review. Myke seemed really excited about the Crowley influence. I thought that was interesting
AB-SOUL - DO WHAT THOU WILT. w/ DEHH REVIEW: czcams.com/play/PLBREYXCBgn83aa4gCnKrggQ-FRarhl8vv.html
D.R.U.G.S. is one of the best recent rap songs I've heard
I agree y'all. Dope album. He and a few other artist that have dropped in the last moth or so are helping me to end this crazy year off right.
Y'all gotta review LOX and Cudi!
"Im from another galaxy I'm actually an android, look me up on your galaxies and your androids" Ab-Soul really got the most quotable lines. DWTW=GOAT
I'm just happy for Ab-Soul. I don't believe he'll ever have that "mainstream" appeal but he has a large fan following and I hope this album adds to his movement.
I feel like this album is just an introduction to souls views on the subjects integrated in the album... I really think there is much more to come to further expand on a lot of things soul was saying or implying in this album...
nobody talked about portishead in the morning??
Clicked this shit so fast
TDE is making history
"Atrocity Exhibition", "Honor Killed the Samurai", and this masterpiece from Ab-Soul are powerful contenders for album of the year.
Bruh it would b dope if y'all did re-review albums @ the end of the year
i wish you guys could get more sub's man...the work you do is great
RAW backwards. His style is RAW. He's going to WAR on Wack Ass Rappers. Can you see why this dude Ab-Soul is a genius. like seriously.
Zod Magus Damn. Didn't catch that! That's dope!
Zod Magus... Damn thanks for pointing that out
No problem. You guys have made me a better hip hop head. I listen for things. Especially with dudes like Ab-Soul
"RAW (backwoods) on all your rappers" meaning hes smoking these other wack ass rappers. Ab-soul be crazy with them homonyms.
Anonymuz - Vice City
Thet def need to review that
IAmLegend561 nah
kingdaniel4195 keep that album away, soundcloud rappers like that are trash
Drevon mcAllister Listen to it bruh, it's way past the level of a typical Soundcloud rapper and most music out now
cobrabosse nope, any soundcloud rapper can do what hes doing, he and gi are trash
Ken growing his beard out all winter or something?
He's embracing his age lol
Lonely Soul is easily my favorite song, that instrumental is just sooo smoove, Punch and Ab went in too
I'm at work but fuck it got the phone tucked in my lap
Definitely my album of the year
ab-soul is like the stanley kubrick of hip-hop
Fuckin Thank You Myke! For being the only one to dive into the album and break it down a bit from questioning the pointless verse 2 for WifeyvsWifey to admitting your disappointment with the lack of explanation for the F(l)ag and Adam lines to actually mentioning the Title/Thelema background and not being afraid to admit there isn't a stronger correlation between The Album itself and Crowley's The Book of The Law. The rest of the fellas seem to reiterate one another's reaction/favorite tracks, they probably don't want to offend Soul, Top, Punch, and them. Love Soul and I enjoy the album but, I Know that he knows he could have gone harder on some of these tracks. #TDE
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR THIS (OR SO IT SEEMS)
you guys need to do an interview with Soul! for clairty on alot of the bars, cause theres alot of shit we are all missing, that soulo has to explain
man I've been waiting so long for this
Raw Backwards on all you Rappers
Raw Backwoods on all you wrappers
This and Awaken, My Love have been my most played albums of December .
Album is dope and Soul still one of the best with wordplay and flow but not much replay value for me.
Dope album but I feel like there are too many references to control system. it's a good thing I love that album.
The funny thing is Soul and the rest of Black Hippy can't include Zaywop just yet) make many references to their old works as well as the old work of each other. They have done this quite a lot so I see it as showing that they are still connected to their past but are also growing at the same time. And I think Soul also made the references to show that he is aware that many fans have a love for that album and that he isn't done being that Ab. On These Days on WROH he even has a line saying that he hasn't left those topics alone as he did Chrostopher Droner.
kooleyBear zaywop aint joining black hippy
The adam and eve line was basically to say everything fun that we do is sinful
R That doesn't answer my question tho...
Myke C-Town If I remember what ab said was men of that time wore girly clothing and makeup cuz of how much they idealized and stuff (even tho at that time women were thought of none-equals)
R I said that part in the video tho. I'm saying it has to be more than that.
Myke C-Town huh im kinda stuck too. If u find some answers it would be dope if u cud make a video on it
R I'm tapped out on answers, man. I seriously just gave up. I mean...how often do I just ask you guys to help em figure it out?
After the first listen to the album I couldn't wait to hear Myke's opinion on this record
You guys should put out way more content. The channel would grow like crazy.
I'll take a crack at this Do What Thou Wilt meaning: Ab-Soul is relating his hip hop self to Crowley. It may just be as simple as that; he has no real interest in assimilating popular styles or mimicking flavor-of-the-month beats. My view is that he is telling us that he is the hip hop version of Crowley: Ab-Soul will do what he wants with his lyrics, his style, and his beat selection, and popular opinion be damned (or at least take a bak seat). He recognizes his own skills and trusts us to recognize it too. Maybe that's why some themes might appear disjointed, because they weren't really meant to have a greater concept to them (except for the repeated theme of treating women as people). The album is a showcase of Ab-Soul doing whatever he wants in a genre where it is increasingly becoming career threatening to ignore the popular. I could be waaaay off, but if that's the case, then Ab-Soul, if you're reading this- keep doing what thou wilting!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Soul is a poet!
"Do we really wanna go to heaven? Ain't no bitches mentioned?" I was expecting one to say that line lol
Y'all NEEEEEEED to review RTJ3 next, or Passion Pain and Demon Slayin'
TDE always raising the bar
I think you guys are making the album deeper than it is. I feel like he is saying stuff that sound cool cause it belittles religion and systems and endorses pop culture. Myke I really like that you analyse lyrics, I love your raw opinion even if I disagree
