Not all of Sweden has these extreme conditions. It's only in the north where they get midnight sun and polar nights. The sun do set in the summer in the rest of country, but it's not that long until it cones back up again.
Well the ’north’ is pretty big. Even in Stockholm there is light maybe 20h a day during summer and 4 during the winter. Also for someone completely foreign to these substantial changes in seasons it will still be very different. Like I was i Kenya and I told this to some folks, they were baffled just by the fact. But don’t get me wrong I know it wont be as drastic. My point is more that we are used to it no matter what, so for most people it is weir

The shortest day in winter in Stockholm is 6 hours (sunrise at 08:43 and sunset at 14:48) and the longest day in summer in Stockholm is 18 hours and 38 minutes (sunrise at 03:30 and sunset 22:08).
To get 20 hours light a day during the summer and 4 during the winter you have to go north of Sundsvall.

@@Asa...S Thats not really true since you are talking about "light" not seeing the sun.. heck its 22:15pm now and its not really dark outside but the sun have set here in sthlm. But yes its nothing compared to what you get in northen sweden where i spend my summers :)
You were asking about the stores. Public transport in Sweden are pretty good, compared to the US, but when you live in rural places like this you do need a car.
She lives about 30 km (19 miles) from the nearest village (Junsele). It´s a small place with less than 1000 people, but there is a grocery store and some other small stores. Closest bigger city that has like a mall is probably Östersund, about a 2 hour drive from there. It´s not very big though, about 50 000 people. Or Örnsköldsvik, which is a little bit closer. Or Umeå, with a population about 90 000, about 3 hours drive away.

Public transport in Sweden is actually very bad. You only needs to leave the bigger cities to see that. And it gets worse for every year.

Early birch leaves can be used as a schampoo as well. Put a handfull fresh ones in a bottle, add some water and shake fiercely until foam builds and you have birch schampoo.
I’m Swedish and has only seen the northern lights one time in my 20 year long life and that was so breathtaking to see.
Actually this year it has been seen all the way down to Malmö. Hear in both sides of Vättern it has been seen around five times.

She has made some great videos, this is one of my favorites. Gets me chocked up a bit.
We have drastic change in darkness and light, and it messes with us mentally more than a lot of most of the world. Even to the south, we only get about 4-6 hours of light during the winter. And as someone who gets up light, to see the sun is a special feeling. But it helps with sleep, in the summer we finally get some warmth for a little while, but it's harder to sleep. Mostly because of the birds.

I live in Norway, Trondheim at the moment (about to move).
Bergen is known for all its rain.

Doesn't have as much rain.
Mostly just drizzel and overcast...
But mix that with how far north it is and you can go months without seeing the sun due to the combination of clouds and the lack of daylight... :-/
Despite us actually being *south* of the arctic circle...
She lives further north then that, but honestly she probably gets more light in winter then we do. :-/

Was lovely in a lot of ways.
But I don't think I can ever truly live somewhere inland again.

You asked if she picked grapes, the answer is of course not, you can't grow grapes in Sweden, at least not in the northern part (in the south it might be possible if you have a greenhouse). What she was picking was gooseberrries.
In Skåne and on Öland they grow grapes and makes wine. A little bit sour but drinkable. And they don't grow it in greenhouses. The grapes need a little chill to be good wine.

She doesn't live that much further north than I do (but Way more remote) That pink light is my favorite, a very welcome warmth in all the cold. The beauty of our winters makes even the -24c bearable, that's usually when it's the most beautiful even
We're going through the light shift right now and I've lived here all my 28 yr life but you still get shook bcs the shift happens So fast
I missed dinner today bcs I'm used to it being dark by at Least 17:00 (5pm) but it was still light by 18:30 That shift happened in less than 2 weeks
I can't imagine living without it tho

For those who are not used to it, it can have a mental cost... There are people who emigrate to these countries, the salaries are very good, but they give up because they don't have the mental capacity to bear it. I lived in a country that was similar but I was there since I was 3 years old...
It's not just a problem for those who are *not* used to it.

The winters here are challenging for locals too...
I don't currently live as far north as she does.
But living at the coast we often get overcast weather in the few hours of sunlight there is...
So we *probably* end up with *less* light then her overall in winter despite being further south.
And goodness knows, the winters are tough...
@@Luredreier I would like to personally thank Norway for stopping much of the clouds and rain rolling in from the Atlantic. Just last summer I had a week long hike in the very north of Finland and every day there were heavy dark clouds over the Norwegian mountains while we had perfect sunny weather. :)

Nordic countries have allemansrätten, all-mans-right or freedom to roam. It means we can pick the "fruits of the forest" freely. Berries, mushroom etc. are for everyone, just go to the forest and start picking, even from privately owned land (you can't hop over fencing and have to respect their property, can't make lots of noise etc). You can camp everywhere you want too.

I live down south, in the Scanian region and....well I can recognize some of the things she even says. Sure we do not have it as brutal but the darkness even down here is harsh.
And the stores! Knowing how the north is! She and her husband probably got a damn long journey to the closest settlement with one!

I'm living in Jokkmokk and yeah summer is great but personally, I love the midwinter, it's cold but proper clothes solve that problem, it's dark but not really dark because the snow lights up everything special when it's a full moon than everything sparkle and shines like in a Disney film and the silence is fantastic, the aurora borealis is amazing and when the light returns the sky is so on clear days so blue that it seems surreal and at sunrise and sunset the light has to travel far so it's not just a red sky where the sun comes up or goes down but the entire sky is red. I'm not born up here but I can tell you for me the last sentence in the national anthem is true "Ja, jag vill leva jag vill dö I Norden", "Yes, I want to live, I want to die in the North".
The more down south you go down in sweden the more hours of day you have. I live in the dalarna of sweden. And depending of what month it is during winter the sun will go down during 3 or 4 during the day. Some times 2:30.

I grew up in Northern Norway, and I love this video. Maybe you should check out these films from Northern Norway. The Sami are indigenous people in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Kola Peninsula in Russia. A traditional way of living is reindeer herding among the Samis. In this film, a family follows the herd on their natural hike from the mountain range, where they spend the winter, and to the summer pasture by the coast. The move takes place in the spring, and the tour was done in a week. Even though it looks like they are chasing the herd, they do not. They keep it together. It is not uncommon for the reindeer herd to swim the last stretch out to the islands. Reindeer are good at swimming. The hairs in the fur are hollow and filled with air, so the fur acts as a life jacket, it is also thick and insulates well. The hooves are wide and act as flippers. Elsewhere, they get help from military landing craft to transport the herd across the water, as in this film, which is filmed a some miles further west of where the herd in the other film came to sea. Notice that this is filmed at night, and it is dark only for a short time. The sun has just set below the horizon. "J" doesn't start with a "D" sound here like in your English.
And the two "n" signifies a short sound.

But I *think* someone who *is* mentioned in a video that it makes the "o" sound shorter.
I would have thought it was the "n" sound that's shorter, but hey.
