As the New Guard arrives, a trumpeter sounds a royal salute and the officer salutes. The New Guard forms up facing the old one. Once both lines are still, the corporal major, senior non-commissioned officer and sentries of the New Guard (the first relief) rein back their horses and leave for the guard room to take over their duties, which lasts for 48 hours. The sentries from the Old Guard return to the parade ground and the entire Old Guard returns back to barracks. When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. I’m so glad that the tourist are no longer allowed to touch the horses. From the videos that I have watched, allowing people to touch the horses was getting out of control. At times the horse was being swarmed by numerous tourists wanting their pictures taken. They had no respect for the Kings Guard and the horse. It was turning into a dangerous situation for everyone.
his was filmed on Sunday and the do not touch came into effect on Monday. The Life Guards were telling people on Monday not to touch the horses but when the Blues and Royals came to do their shift nobody told them the rule had changed.
Ce ne sont pas des concierges ! Quand ils crient …… vous pleurez , d’autre part ils n’ont pas le droit de parler !!! Mais renseignez vous !!!! Ils y a 2 écriteaux !!!!!!! Monique 🇫🇷
I wish I was an officer. I'd tell everyone to get back and stop touching the horse's people have no respect. The police should step in and do more to help the gards and horse's.
About time they did this. It was getting ridiculous, the amount of people clustering around the horses trying to pet them and making a nuisance of themselves. Stand next to the sign, take your picture, and get the heck out.
All that laughing and loud noises would make me mad if I were a horse. Then people got to get up on top of you and pet you or rub your nose-yeah-can understand why they bite.

But when are the guards going to be helped by having something there to tell tourists not to touch the horses? There should be an assistant for at least a few months until it becomes widely known.
The guards NEED TO SPEAK UP and enforce the rule. It is their horse and their responsibility. Any trooper that doesn’t enforce the no touch rule should be relieved of mounted duty!!

This video is just an example of why the new "don't touch the horse" rule needed to be put into place. This is not since the new rule was implemented as can be seen by the sign. It doesn't say "don't touch the horse" yet. It still says "don't touch the reins." You'll see people doing anything they wanted to these horses. They crowded them, irritated them, pawed at them all over, grabbed the reins and bridles, put their children in danger, etc.... Things not shown in this video that no doubt were factors as well were people kissing these horses, all but making out with them, hugging the horses, hanging all over them, getting in the box with them, selfishly parking themselves in front of the horses, so that no one else could get near the horse, and on and on!! On top of all of that, the guards were constantly trying to keep people off the reins.

So happy about the new rule. We do love the HCAV but one thing that you videographers could perhaps address, a lot actually, is that the bit that they are using is a torment to quite a few of the horses. It's really difficult for someone who loves horses to watch that too.

I think that the Household Cavalry hoesemen are too exposed to tourists annoyances, when on duty at Horse Guards. The people are allowed to get too close. Their colleagues of the Foot Guards, once had the same problems, when the sentry boxes were positioned outside the gates of Buckingham Palace or Clarence House. And for that reason they had to move all sentry boxes inside the gates of every royal residence in order to protect the soldiers from rude and disrespectful tourists. On the other hand, the Household Cavalry men are way too exposed and accessible by the people there on Whitehall. They can get too close, and in my opinion a simple warning sign is not enough to stop the people from annoying the horses and horsemen. I think they should be more protected by a physical barrier, like a chain or a rope in front of the sentry boxes (more or less like the Foot Guards at the Tower) and a "do not cross" sign, so no tourist could anymore have physical contact with the Guards. That in my opinion, is the next step to take, to preserve them from rude tourists.
End of inspection and it's like the zombie apocalypse with all the brain dead tourists wandering around with no sense of direction. Time to go weirdos, Bye, and DON'T come back.
