  • Let's talk about Contentment Calls.
These are the calls that usually
seal the deal when calling in a gobbler.
Hung Up Gobblers need that little bit
of coaxing sometimes to come them
last few yards. There's of course
the Purr and Cluck, but here's two
more contentment calls to use when
    nothing else is working.

Matt, I have to tell you, I took your advice using a contentment call when a gobbler was hung up 60 yards away. I faced away from the gobbler as if walking away using a contentment call, and immediately he jumped the ditch and came straight to my setup. Boom, my first turkey yesterday, April 18, 2021! All thanks to you. Thanks so much for your wisdom!!!

Great calls , great history ...and I'm glad he has inspired your turkey hunting . Love your videos , wish there were more realistic videos like yours on CZcams . Keep it up Dale Outdoors!

Watched this video last night and one more time this morning, used the whine a couple of times on a bird that was hung up on a knob in a fresh burn and pulled him into 30 yards with some whines, clucks, and scratching leaves! Tagged out on public land in Georgia! Thanks man!

I like this content Matt. The subtle soft calling. As different as as framer and a finishing carpenter. Its the finer details you explained that will often be the difference between a close call and toting one out over your shoulder. Love it

    Matt
HUGE fan of your videos feel they are the best in sharing/teaching ACTUAL knowledge for all skill levels but especially for beginner turkey hunters. I really respect your hunts are mostly on public land and NOT intensely managed private land. I also have bought a quite a few of Spring Fever double sided slate calls (copper, brass, AL, and ceramic) calls and they worked so well I gifted several to my friends. I for years bought into you never just cluck or purr and cluck because it was to easy for the turkeys to mistake your cluck for an alarm putt and ruin your hunt.
Then about 5-6 years ago when I was able to take my sons on youth hunts on great limited access public land and got first crack at the Toms I heard a VERY large number of hens on roost clucking dozens of times, and only clucking. At first I thought "Oh crap I somehow spoked them they know I'm here" but then the hen(s) flew right down to my decoys and hung out like nothing was wrong. Then this happened over and over season after season, so I had to accept clucking was OK to do to call in a Tom.
After this I also began to notice a lot of hens I saw or heard that would only cluck as they calmly made their way around the woods and fields.
So yes you are indeed correct about the cluck-purr being a solid reliable call.
Thanks Matt, for making me a better more successful turkey hunter.

Matt, this is the best video you have put out yet! That’s saying a lot to because you have put out some good ones. Yes sir, I've been making that call (sound) for 25+ years and it works, sometimes it PO's the old gobblers off and he comes in fast. Also try the da-da-da-da after that at some point. The hens will get excited, its amazing the sounds these birds make.
