Harder than it looks, painful flat bar is attached to those spikes and digs into your calves HARD, and dangerous work. Mad props to all our linemen out there! Thank you!
When their foot slipped even only a few feet off the ground I got worried. Its scary business and even only a few feet to the ground can take you out bad stuck to the pole like that
Yea when I was doing landscaping we had cheap equipment aside from the chainsaws. Never hurt my shins though aside from my own fault of forgetting how far the trailer hitch came out 😆 🤣 😂
@@Draktharm he is using a buck squeeze in this video you won’t fall with that on as long as it is used properly at worst you will smash your boys against the pole.
I never did linemen work but I was tech for windmills and let me tell you something that test that you have to take is no joe we climb 300 feet and do it with about 30 pounds of tools on you. Those Linemen deserve every single bit of those dollars that they make!
I've seen videos of what those things do when the wind blows. Respect to you if you can handle that. I'll stick to my explosives.
It’s super dangerous! I had some tree trimmers cutting my palm trees and I was amazed at this very same technique. I tipped him a lot of extra $$$$.
Linemen, the badasses of the electrical world.
Be a man, you must be swift as a coursing river, be a man, with all the force of a great typhoon, be a man, with all the strength of a raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moooonnn.
I just missed out on this type of training before I became a lineman for a cable company. Was told it wasn't required, due to too many safety issues. But how to maneuver in a bucket at 30 to 50 feet in the air was more important. Big ups to those who have or still doing it.
I tell you what dealing with all the knew ways of doing stuff is hard. You should pat yourself on the back for that sh!t. Keep working 💪
WOW! You make this look to easy, grateful for people who do dangerous work like this, my heart goes out to the people in Texas dealing with the power outage STAY STRONG !!!
I’ll be doing this in a couple weeks. Preparing myself by watching these videos lol
Used to have to climb unassisted “ without the belt “. Than strap across and belt in up top. They would also put your paycheck at the top of the pole at climbing school.
How would you climb a damn 30' pole without the damn strap, Joseph? Come on now.
@@sparkey1821 could you please include a link? Where not talking about the tree in your moms backyard with limbs on it, we're talking about a 30' pole!
Most of the time, in real life situations, you can't hook with safety-straps because there are way too many objects on the poles. I've climbed freehand all my life. During myy pole climbing school days, you weren't allowed to use a safety belt until you got to your working spot.
I do this everyday in Southern California.... but we never see that white stuff on the ground! Took awhile for us to figure out what that spike was for inside our SuperSqueeze. The ice spike. Respect for climbing iced poles!
I was trained to climb telephone poles in the Army (36K), Fort Ord, California- AIT March 1969; that is where it started and ended for me as a pole climb- the Army had other plans for me.
Another 36k hear reminded me of the pole orchard fort Gordon GA 1982
I thought of mulan when I saw this 😌
I had a friend that climbed 500' cell towers. HELL NO !!!
@@texan6673 don't you love the internet english teachers always correcting people.
@@texan6673 wow, so sorry you lost your friend! So senseless losses with drugs n alcohol and vehicles!
I do hvac and I can't stand getting on ladders 2 stories up. I couldn't imagine climbing up that icy pole while it swings like that
so happy with my life when I get these videos because I've been a Foreman Lumberjack and a Pole fitness extraordinaire
Respect for lineman!
Look where you're going and not where you have been. If you look up. Your feet fall in place where they belong. IBEW 1393!!!
I work with these guys all the time, interesting to watch em climb sometimes.
That looks so easy
They keep us running gods work!
Great climb for a young man. He's going to work for what he has
My legs hurt just watching! My gluts..ahhh good job buddy, good job!
My grandpa was a lineman. He worked at APS for 30 years.
It ruined his knees.
That looks way higher than 30 feet even from down here. Respect to these guys.
He's getting high on the job
All I could think about was how cold this made me feel!
For safety, one should climb, fit a failsafe rope of others to safely climb without falling down. There have been accidents where the footing failed to grip, or the belt snapped. Play it safe, bros.
I saw a guy once in an old diesel pick up truck with a huge sticker on the back window it had a light pole and it read "Journey man line men, its non of your concern!" ...this was years ago and I still have so many questions if anything that sticker alone triggered all of my concerns..
I work with that guy. We're both lineman, and I wondered myself what the hell that supposed to mean.
@@jrcampos1952 lmao man what a small world. Yeah I was like.. "I wasn't before but now I'm concerned"
Overhead line Oneonta I did the same class
I'm ok, thx
Respect 😁👍👏👏
I remember those days!
Damn! Those are some good looking coconuts!
Enjoy your knees while you got them. There's a reason it's a young person's job.
@@larrycrooksjr9176that fool got baby legs and he scared of heights
Nice job 👍
I don’t know which one is worst. Falling from a 25 foot pole at the top or being the guy under the pole on the bottom. Unfortunately I was the guy on the bottom and got the full force of the pole hitting my shoulder.
So much easier and safer with the buck squeeze !
And then the award part when he has to jump down
My dad is a lineman
30 years ago I was taught to climb up free hand then belt off
Later was retrained to use the safety belt and “ granny “ up
Before I retired I was trained to use the buckingham belt that’s supposed to catch you if your gaffs skip
Oh to be young again
I’ve been wanting those ninja shoes since I was young ( early 80’s n the back of karate magazine 😆)
Good job
no way that's a 30. or maybe it was just all the steps. 😂😂😂😂 just seems higher than 30. Keep it up guys. Get better and get in the feild.🎉🎉🎉
Memories 😓
yup
Take the buck squeeze off and trust your tools
That looks freaking dangerous
When the pole starts wobbling badly but the co workers says its not wobbling at all
They got them climbing some dead post
I am lineman for the countyyyyy

I remember when I was training to be an arborist
Nice vid
Oneonta Job Corps what's good!
Just try to look at the top of the pole when going up your Hooks will go to the heart of the pole.it takes some time to get use to.
Sanchez.. Wait'a'minute!
Swing your lower leg and KICK the spur into the wood. Keep your knees away from the pole👍
We had instructors that could climb back towards the pole.
It ain't painful if your gear is adjusted right. Different climbing style tho. Normally you only flip your super squeeze every 2 steps and it's a bigger flip. (It's definitely faster doing it that way)
LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS! TO DEFEAT THE HUNS
Almost cut out !
Looks exhausting just watching lol
Fácil. Y seguro.
i am lineman my county banlgdesh.my joud want
DIZ WAT I USED TO DO 🤦🏾♂️
Is it worth it to become a lineman? And even if the money is enough to support a family how much time would i realistically be able to spend with them
try driving truck for a living... home time is scarce and it is year after year....
You can work with your local power or cable utility construction company.be home every night
Part of the training was, catch the ball, and if you dropped it, go down the pole and get it, and come back up with the ball. I never dropped it, afraid.
Damn, you guys got training?
When I had to gaff poles, they gave me a truck, my gaffs, my belt, and said, "you'll figure it out" 😄
Ahh, the good old days
I've seen linemen working on fallin poles in water. Their jobs are extremely dangerous. Here in Michigan they have to be really though with our extreme winters.
Never felt those boots but I'm will ing to bey they don't hurt as bad as slamming your kneecap into a monopole peg. Some will understand, some wont.
Takes bulls to do this.
I got all the gear and spikes if anyone wants to try it. I’ve never gone more than 10 foot off the ground. I don’t like it.
Ngerii...
I've climbed a 30ft ladder, pretty scary!!
I’m a lineman. I prefer being in my hooks on a pole any day over being on a ladder
It’s like the army, but they are doing it and nobody praise them. Hats off and hands down.

That super squeeze is hella loose lol
Climb many coconut trees taller than that without safety belts or spurs on my boot, in the rain also.
Try it with a guard arm and no buck squeeze.
If he cut out he’s fall straight to the bottom didnt adjust his brown at all
Balls so huge idk how he manages to climb up there without tipping over the wood.
Where can I get a hardhat with an extra wide brim like that? That seems like the ticket in snow or rain
Union workers?
Is this lineman school in Idaho? I seen some guys using something like an electric chainsaw motor with a rope running through it. Don't remember what they called the thing, but it was nice. I bet this would really suck if the pole was metal.
Back in the day there would of been a shot of whiskey up there waiting for you, that's if you climb up smooth and not spilled it out.
I understand you ascend with the belt around the pole, but how does descending work?
My dad did this work died from cancer and its the cause of it
Hello,
I wanted to kindly remind you that I sent you a message regarding your video. Please see my previous message.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Your supposed to look up my friend to make sure you don’t climb into any wire
Don’t mind me just walking up a tree
I guess that stopper is there because someone must have went too far and fell to their death.
FUUUUUUUCK that job lol..... Power to you guys. I'm a veteran, I fought in Iraq.... but this.... I don't have the balls for.
We have no wood poles but concrete poles only in korea. How would he..?
What boots you got
Thank you everyone for watching my video!
Looking good bud, stop looking at your feet though. They're not going anywhere.
