You should totally do a video on Richie Kotzen, man, he is sooooo overlooked and he deserves to be recognized as one of the best. Also, excellent video as always!
Takes me back to 70s.I was 17. I got hold of some Elmore James LPs. I saw the pictures of Elmores guitar on the cover. I put away my electric guitar, took my crappy acoustic, stuck an electric pickup in the soundhole. Then turned up my amp and started sliding. The thing is I tried all Elmores songs in standard tuning at first. But the biggest problem was trying to sing like Elmore with my sqeeky little voice. Its a little better now I´m 65. This video is great. Great sound and with a great attitude that will help a lot of younger players. May Elmore rest in peace. Great musician.
aweome and energetic playing as always, but I gotta say man, you rocked the singing on this one. I swear it sounded like a baritone version of Robert Plant
That was fantastic Thom! Blues is my favorite kind of music & those old Blues men were the best. No lessons needed, just on old beat up guitar & inborn talent! This made my day. Thank you!! 👍😉🎸
Great tips as ever 👍 Guitar Pilgrim also teaches you the importance of what you don’t play. Best guitar channel on here in my book. And he treats us to some piano from time to time too!
Well, you've done it again Pilgrim. You simplified a classic so that anyone with a guitar, a pick and a steel ( or bottle ) tube can learn that classic song. Thanks again for giving me the tools I need to blow my friends out of the water. You make music fun!
Ike and Tina cover this one like snowfall and Ike plays it in the key of E in standard tuning. It almost plays itself. I appreciate your tutorial method and have added your site to my short list of YT lesson givers and have subscribed. It's nearly Christmas here in Texas so I wish you and yours a safe and happy one.
You're videos are always amazing! Have you ever considered recording some covers or maybe even originals? I love your voice and guitar playing, so I'd definitely listen to them!!
Your passion for Music (Guitar and Piano) and your energy in playing gets my 66 YO self moving a little quicker on my "AXE"..Thank you for the entertainment and the education!
I want to pre-order your blues album! I LOVED this! And that's not to say I don't Love Everything you do--but this was soul touchingly good! Gotta be fun to be you. Stay Well!
@@GuitarPilgrim You pulled it off big time. I’ve seen so many of your videos, you always keep me interested right to the end. You’re a blinking good guitarist and teacher. Thanks for all you’ve taught me.
for me the best song of elmore is it hurts me too, and eric clapton on the album from de cradle pays him an incredible tribute, the best version of all after the original
Hi Thom, Today is a good day! like starting a car?😂. Will never forget that! Love the piano backing at the close too. Question - Why the Les Paul are not the Stratocaster?
I think I like open D now better than open G. I guess it paid off getting a new 6 string to kick around in a different tuning. Thanks for your unabashed enthusiasm.
@@GuitarPilgrim Every time I listen to the aolo of Double trouble by Eric clapton or many solos by Pink Floyd, it gives me goosebumps. That is said, I respect the fast playing, kudos for whoever can master this.
Hey Pilgrim, I have been a big fan for a long time. I notice you aren't muting the strings with your left hand. I started slide yesterday and I saw on youtube that I should lay my fingers on the left hand gently to mute the strings. If I don't do that my strings buzz. But the I see you and I also saw Eric Clapton and you do not use that technique. Can you explain? thank you.
The question " Can you play...? " is much more than just a rhetorical one. Whenever I compare original recordings with performances of today, I have serious doubt, the old guitar slingers are in fact able (!) to play the original licks if they wanted. Example: Pretty Things / Dick Taylor : Mama, Keep Your Big Mouth Shut ( the 30+ second guitar solo is second-to-none in 60 years ) Example: Rolling Stones / Keith Richards : It's All Over Now ( nobody ever since, Keith included, could play the solo this way ) So, dear Pilgrim, lend your ear to the above and make a video, playing the stuff note-by-note. If anybody can do it - it's gotta be yourself !
Hey Pilgrim, have you ever heard the playing of Lowman Pauling? He's an influence on Clapton, John Fogerty and Steve Cropper (among others). He's got some great, really dirty sounding guitar lines on songs like this one: czcams.com/video/1qzjxnOfwgc/video.html Just wait for the solo's, trust me

I’ve got a great idea… still slide themed- slide in standard tuning ala Duane Allman! He’s the king of southern rock slide!
Great to see you playing Elmore James! He is one of my personal favourites. Would love to see you cover someone like Magic Sam or ZZ Top
You should totally do a video on Richie Kotzen, man, he is sooooo overlooked and he deserves to be recognized as one of the best.
Also, excellent video as always!
The solo in Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles, please
If you are is a bluesy mood … “Porch Light” by Robert Cray. Really beautiful blues lament ..

I don't know how and I don't know when but I'm gonna get this guy to play at my wedding
haha, who knows it might happen!
Blues at its best. In its supposed ease, it has something that distinguishes it from the rest: soul and rawness.
aweome and energetic playing as always, but I gotta say man, you rocked the singing on this one. I swear it sounded like a baritone version of Robert Plant
Yeahhhh baby!!! What a wonderful new lesson 🙏🙏 thank youuuuuuu
Yeah!! I agree with these guys. I love your playing and singing!!!
I'm enjoying the facial expression when you do the slide! Great lesson as always! :)
Really liked your singing! And of course as always your playing.
You are extremely talented and an inspiration for anyone - even people who don't play guitar!! Best regards from Amsterdam, Frankyjonez

Great lesson. Easy to see how Elmore took the Dust My Broom and made some songs from it.
Great lesson - thank you. I feel even I might be able to get the basics down on this one!
give it a try, its great fun to play this one
Great stuff, that gives mi inspiration.

Tampa Red's version from 1940.
Very nice with a Kazoo at the end

Elmore’s main tuning was Open D, like Pilgrim has here.
You sing pretty well ! You should release a blues album
Hi Thom, Today is a good day! like starting a car?😂. Will never forget that! Love the piano backing at the close too. Question - Why the Les Paul are not the Stratocaster?
“Da bluz come down on me ….. Mississippi Fred McDowell
John lee Hooker said it best "throw all the fancy chords away .. just get this B"
Amazing
Well done
Brian Jones idol, Elmore James. :)
Great video! I'd love to know your settings on the amp and pedal (?) you're using.
Great
Now that you got the Les Paul, I think it's time to get an SG and set it up for slide.🎸🎸🎸🎵🎵
Elmore James got nothin' on this, baby!
Hey Hans! Leuk van je te horen, groetjes uit Ierland!! ook namens floortje!

Playing a fast difficult riff or playing a slow but emotional touching riff ?
