I just love the look of surprise on all the guests faces when the Emperor showed up as he never leaves the Imperial Palace but is willing to come to Marquis Quling residence to defend Shaoshang that he sent the Empress first then came unannounced with Consort Yue.
🌸 First time I’ve ever seen the Empress getting angry. She normally speaks very softly and gently but this time there’s a distinctive thread of steel in her voice. A slight hardening that’s never been uttered before.
PS: When the gong went off as the Empress arrived it signalled that Round1 had started! 🤣🤣🤣
All the guests were in awe of the Emperor being there for Niao Niao. That should have sent a message to all don't mess with Zisheng future bride 😏
This whole scene from the beginning of this celebration is worth watching many many times 😂😂
As soon as the Emperor's entourage came with General Ling Buyi, Concubine Yue and the uncle prince, the atmosphere was like ...Uh oh, here it comes.
I'm honestly amazed that ANYONE tries to open their mouth when Consort Yue is in the room. She's got a tongue so sharp it splits atoms. She's absolutely the ruthless iron fist to the Empress's gentle velvet glove. :D
My heart goes out to poor Prince Ruyang, he's hilarious :)
I just love the shameless eavesdropping from the peanut gallery. So refreshingly honest as all the family and guests watch and listen anxiously.

I always forget that Zisheng is actually the Emperor's foster son, he's essentially a prince just without a title. This scene always reminded me of this, that essentially, the Emperor and Empress are Shaoshang's future in-laws.
Right. I don't recall exactly, but I think that Huo Chong was the Emperor's sworn brother. Huo Junhua, Chong's sister, is Ling Buyi's mother, so the Emperor had an extra reason for fostering/darn near adopting Zisheng.
SPOILER:
It hits a bit harder later on when we learn that Zisheng is NOT Ling Buyi. He's Huo Wushang, the son of Huo Chong, so the connection between him and the Emperor is closer than the Emperor even thought.

They start talking about ancestors, and I just imagine the Huo family ancestors chilling out at this banquet like "Nah, he picked a riot. She's ride or die. We love her!" And then later all of them hanging around the imperial court when she breaks up with him like "LOOK WHAT YOU DID!!!! HOW DID YOU SCREW THAT UP???!!! I mean, of course, we all understand, you committed mass murder for our sakes... but STILL!!!!"
Now I just really want a domestic drama where, on one hand you have the usual living family drama, and then parallel to that you have all the drama between the ancestors just hanging around the family home. It cuts between the perspective of the living relatives who can't see the ancestors, obviously, and that story has a very serious tone, juxtaposed with the ancestors' ghosts who are sometimes very serious or scary, and sometimes just completely ridiculous.
I know that's probably culturally inaccurate, but I just think it would be hilarious, okay?

Like Mulan the Disney cartoon, with like Mushu and the ancestors. I know what you mean. What a dream that cdrama would be.
That would be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Just watching generations of ancestors arguing over where the kids got their sassy attitudes from, or bragging on how great the kids are. You'd almost have to keep the tone light and playful--having a bunch of concubines and wives tearing each other up over who poisoned whose tea or who murdered whose infant would be really dark, but a family without a lot of backyard drama would be nice :D

I think the arrival of the Empress was on purpose and the emperor and his wife and ling buyi was a set up to stop the aunt and step mother. I am going to have to watch the drama again for the third time. 😆
