    What happens when you put a mirror in the focal point of the solar scorcher, does the mirror burn or can the focus be pointed in another direction and burn things the same way by pointing the reflection at it.

      I think Jacob Durst is correct. Think of the light rays forming the shape of cone, with the base of the cone at the solar scorcher, and the tip of the cone at the focal point. As each of these light rays continue past the focal point, they spread out into a cone that is essentially the mirror image of the first one. Essentially, the light becomes diffused beyond the focal point, rather than remaining concentrated.

      Stuart Edge that isn’t healthy at all sun releases waves of solar radiation which is light and smoke contains small amount of it that is radiation cooling down but don’t worry you have to put that thing in same conditions for long time to get an effect which it would be burnt but still you have to watch out explosions in sun directly effects earth solar radiation and stuff like that and lot of different chemicals from light

    Try adding a mirror that bounces the beam under the pan so you heat the pan from the bottom. It might make it easier to cook, but be careful. Don’t blind yourself

      Exactly what I was thinking! The pan under the steak is cooling off and the meat is insulating the pan so the sun-energy isn't heating the pan very well.

      This would work, but I think it is far cooler that the direct sunlight is cooking the steak rather than the radiant energy being turned into conduction energy, cooking with a pan.

    That's an amazing way of cooking. You reduce the use gas which came from non-renewable resources, or you could just use an electric stove powered by renewable energy; BUT THIS IS AN AWSOME WAY OF COOKING STEAKS! TKOR that is an awsome way of saving the Earth!

      MAXXL and something you can't use around children because BBQs and grills are a lot higher than this thing's focal point. It's also very dependant on the weather. It's a cool experiment, but very much not practical.

      It really is an awesome self-sustainable, small footprint step toward actually going greener. Imagine everyone using the sun to cook all their food in places where it's possible, and the food actually turns out delicious. Man, all the energy that would save.

    You should use a thermally conductive material underneath the pan. Like a piece of metal so it can hold the heat under the pan and keep it cooked evenly.

    Use mirror and reflex the sunlight upside down and cook with the sun light in the bottom of the pan

      But the beams are focused from a large area (they have different angle to the surface) so you would need to use a lens to get the light to be parallel first then you can use a mirror to reflect
