  • Whether it's being asked where you're from ("no, really from") or being told your 'hat' looks nice, here are some of the misguided comments, questions and assumptions Sikhs often encounter.

I was out with one of my homegirls and she's Sikh and one time this lady asked her if she was Muslim and she tells the lady no. Sure enough, the lady was like "Are you sure? You just look like one of them, so are you?" Looool my friend just simply said "Are you ignorant?" The lady had the audacity to get annoyed and made a huge scene. She said no she wasn't ignorant and then my friend just asked her "Are you sure? Cause you look like it." What's even funnier is the lady said my friend had some nerve assuming what she was based on her looks. . . the irony.

      D. L. The problem isn’t Islam. Islam is just an excuse they use to be racist towards South Asian people. The media feeds the ignorants garbage and they gobble it up. Because the media tells them Islam is “evil” they think their hate can be justified.

I am Spanish and here in Spain what I very much like about most Sikhs is that they treat women equally and that Sikh girls work outside from home and are hard working and kind, regardless of the nationality of others. I once visited a Sikh Temple on a tourist journey to India and it was so nice to see how much they cared for others giving them food,...I think that some people just lack the knowledge and they need a kind explanation about Sikhism to appreciate it more. About racist people who want to send them "home" as a young girl one of the nicest things I recall when I reached London for the first time was seeing a Sikh worker at the airport being welcoming, smiling and waving his hand saying hello. I felt less afraid☺️

I’ve so much respect for the Sikh community. They are unbelievably charitable, and really full of a love for life. It’s so unfair they experience prejudice and racism, especially in the wake of everything, but as shown here they don’t let it drag them down. They don’t seem to waste anytime on anger and hatred, and probably recognise if people say abusive things to them, it’s all their issue, not theirs

The "Langar"( I think thats right, I'm not really a sikh, just born from the heritage.) is intended to be a feeding hall for anyone, male, women, sikhs, non sikhs, whites, blacks etc etc etc. The friend and the enemy can even eat there. If you walk in, just take off your shoes, cover your head (there are clothes supplied for those without) and go get a tray thing and fill it with whatever you want, eat as much as you want and if you ask to take some, they'll let you. Everyone who works there does it voluntarily. If you are ever poor/homeless/hungry... Go to a gurduwara(sikh temple) and help yourself to whatever you want. They will never ever turn you down.

    - even though i don't speak punjabi, they will start talking to each other in punjabi and i'm like completely lost in the conversation,
    - They all love to joke around, drink, eat, they especially love chicken and curry, they love to dance out on punjabi music, do bhangra, and love to smoke a joint, at least the ones i hang out with lol.
    - One last thing, they are also very friendly people, they will help you if you need help, they are fun to hang out with, they rarely talk about negative things, they are always optimistic, good people to have as friends.

KESARI - This is a great movie, based on an incredible true story of the Battle of Saragarhi in which an army of 21 Sikhs fought against 10,000 Afghans in 1897. They fought to the last man, asking and giving no quarter. This is filmed in a beautiful land. The battle was fought at Saragarhi, a small village at border district of Kohat, situated on the Samna Range, in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (previously Northwest Frontier Provience) present-day Pakistan. It is filmed in Hindi, and I did not understand but a few words that were spoken in English, but knowing the story of the battle it was easy to enjoy this great movie. It has great videography, special effects, and acting. In my opinion this would be worthy of several Academy Awards. The lead actor was phenomenal These are my opinions.....feel free to make them your own.

innnn West side of Birmingham, born and raised
Gurdwara is where I spent a few of my days
Chillin out maxing, relaxing all cool and wearing me turban at home and at school
Well a couple of guys they were up to no good
Starting being rascist in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight, but my Mum didn't care, she said
"We're proud to be Sikh and you can't cut your hair"
Me dad drove a cab, and when it got near, it didn't smell too fresh and it was missing a mirror
I didn't want to cabby, and that's not rare, so I moved down to London and got a job there
    I
    first
bought one house, and then seven or eight
And I yelled to my boss "I quit, see you later!"
Now I chill out and often declare, it's good to be a Singh and a millionaire

All of the values and beliefs I have learned about the religion today is what I have felt since I was a young child. I didn't grow up with religion, but never wanted to cut my hair because that's the way I was born, am vegetarian, volunteer, want to grow spiritually, etc. I honestly feel at home and at peace within myself after learning more. I never really connected with a religion the way I have today. I am getting a copy of Guru Granth Sahib to learn more ❤️
