Awe inspiring no matter how many times I watch this. I heard some mistakes but dude...this is the toughest song in their discography not to mention their singing and screaming at the same time.
Yeah I have focused on lead playing too much, doing vocals with it isn't too bad, but my rhythm playing needs to get a bit tighter for the main riff, it's a somewhat difficult song, I don't think it'd be their most difficult though!
i want to learn how to play that riff and sing, cause i wanna play live one day with my own band and be like “this song is by the best metal band everrrrrr, TORN BETWEEN SCYLLA AND CHARYBDIS AHHHHHHHHHH
@@tritex6350 Oh but he DID though. First one (4:07) Matt even announces "Paolo on the bass guitar"! He caught Paolo playing the last note of it (a 16th fret slide). Second bass solo (4:55) was spent watching Matt's back @Nick. Class dismissed.
One of their best and definitely one of their most underrated songs. This and like Callisto to a star in heaven are so underrated, man the shogun album is so fire
I've commented this in other live videos of theirs, but I'm always on the fence in regards to Matt's vocals: On one side, I'm really happy that he was able to recover well after blowing his voice out and I'm glad he's gotten proper training, has proper technique and has actually found "his voice" now. But on the other side, damn, Matt's vocals were out of this world, especially during the Shogun + In Waves era. His screams were monstrous and his cleans were angelical, at least to my ears. I always feel bad for liking his "old voice" so much, because I know it literally almost ended his career, but I'm happy that he's healthy now. Anyways, it's only natural. At least I still have these older videos to reminisce and he's still putting out amazing music for us!
metalstyler95 I don't even think Matt ever realized just how fucking good his screams were. For real, he has some of the best screams and growls I have ever heard from a metal band (especially one with the actual musical talent they have), and he is able to mix it with clean vocals. Not only that, he also plays rhythm AND leads whilst performing these fantastic vocals. In my opinion Matt is way more talented than his own damn idol (James Hetfield). James is a good musician for sure, but on a technical level, Matt blows him away in every category.
Actually, its not the cameraman's fault, those bass solos are beyond the camera's comprehension. Seriously, here I sit listening with my headphones for damn bass solos live and the technology now decides to fail us. (facepalm)
I agree about the technology on this day, but fuck, if someone's at a goddamn Trivium concert you expect that at least that person knows about Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis (one of their best fucking songs) and that there are TWO fucking delicious bass solos right on the middle of the damn song. The guy with the camera just let us all know how he doesn't know shit about Trivium by this simple detail, by not recording Paolo's performance, even when the bass doesn't sound
Dude stole Triviums performing prime lmao. 2008-2013 are Triviums prime (Matts vocals, energy of the band, instrumentals being tight) imo and for most of it, Nick spammed the double bass and detracted from most of their performances lol
@@tfwnoyandere And yet, look how dominating Alex is. Energy conservation is only practiced by smarter drummers. Nick was a nasty mess, and his triggers sounded like sh!t. Do you even have ears?

They actually said it themselves in an issue of Guitar World a couple years ago.
Man at 0:58 I don't understand how you can play a hard riff like this and sing at the same time !!MAtt is a god
Tons of practice. He plays by muscle memory at this point probably

Love how the recorder missed BOTH bass solos.
Thanks for the heads-up!
Dammit, that’s all i came here for.

Oh shit, is that a seven string explorer?
That is badass.
never get bored listening to this song
these guys are lords of metal
Rockin the white 'splorer & black tank like Hetfield in '89.

If you play guitar you know how difficult it is to play that riff while singing
Or just in general lmao
I can barely play the riff even without singing. Their speed is so intense! The muted "gallops" between the notes are what get to me.
I really love matt style at the moment
Jesus Christ,Matt can do some fucking death metal vocals
Yeah and Corey's solo was impeccable
Indeed! He sounds EVIL when he does those vocals!

Besides kirisute gomen and shogun yeah....
Amazing album, total badass!
Matt should always have a beard, he looks badass
Agreed.. i loved his style at this moment

Matt literally points to Paolo before his first solo, and then we pan to him just in time for it to end...

other than that an epic fucking performance! !
let middleton do his job ;)

yes
0:43 is heaven
Matt looked the best in 2012 I think
He was jacked, singing and screaming, while incorrect, were sounding pitch perfect, and he had that Fresh Cut.
