I showed this film in a youth detention center 6 years ago to older juveniles - it was time to take it down to cell rooms as the shift was over - they were glued to this film so I let it finish out ten minutes after my shift ended. It had some brilliant scores and I remember when I saw it for the first time it was really intense and real.
Fun fact: when the tank commander says, “can’t get elevation, he knows it,” Russian tanks were small and designed for European warfare and the cannon elevation for most Russian tanks were limited. The Russian T55 tanks cannon could only raise up 9 degrees and the T62 seen in the movie could only raise 16 degrees.
The tank in the movie is actually a T55, but it's an Israeli captured one from the war in 1973 , called a Tiran 5. That's why the gun looks that way. it's a 105mm American gun, same as a M60.
@@billynedorvich3203 lol it’s not the first time tanks in movies have fooled me. The tiger tank in Saving Private Ryan was actually a mock up T34.But that makes sense, since this movie was being made during the Cold War and getting Warsaw Pact weapons was difficult.

I saw this when it came out in the theater. It was in a class where they showed current movies, so we just show up and watch whatever the movie was that week. So, we were all surprised by this movie no one had ever heard of. It was really good. Gripping, exciting and rather complex when it came to the issues.

An underrated gem of a film that's more relevant now than when it was made. I have a feeling demand for it will increase in the next year or so as more and more Americans (who largely ignored our occupation of Afghanistan) will try to come to terms with what went wrong....much like the Russians did 2 decades earlier. The same thing happened with "Battle for Algiers" (1966) when the Iraq occupation blew up in our faces.
The US War in Afghanistan was nothing like what happened during the Russo-Afghan war. The Russians were defeated by the Afghan mujahideen, who had the backing of the CIA and other countries, and pulled out of the country. The US defeated the Taliban and practically ran THEM out of the country. After the Afghan National Army was formed and trained and power transferred to them, the US decided to leave. The Taliban came back in and defeated the ANA, most who didn't even put up a fight.
It's a super great movie that I have seen yet and ''tension'' is the same today whatching again. I like , I subscribe . I applause. Again and again and again 👍🤓👍

Russia was invited into Afghanistan by the then government of the country to assist them with domestic issues. The US weaponised a number of groups to create a guerrilla based conflict which wore down the government and the Russians leading to the latter withdrawing, draining the Russians army and treasury in the process and helping to bring about the collapse of USSR. firstly, this is the Martian frost of minus 60 Celsius even near the equator and the body is doll-shaped and empty, secondly, this is the Mars rover, and thirdly, the Mars helicopter charges the batteries with solar energy after the flight and photographs its rover and it is quite possible that, completely losing energy, it depicts a detail inside the rover ... photography from the helicopter's video camera is also transmitted using the power of the Mars rover... firing a shot from a grenade launcher at your tank means destroying your bicycle by assembling a scooter from inappropriate remains... but I would burn my own car, stolen by crazy megalomaniacs... if they paint me as a slave, on Mars where there is no population yet
