Since my first camera was the GH5 my favorite lens are the Panasonic Leica 12-60 f2.8-f4.0 as all round len and the Panasonic Leica 12mm f1.4 for capture the northen lights in video mode (yes is a bit difficult but with some tricks can be possible)
This is indeed an obscene number of lenses, congratulations! I don't use it enough but the Olympus 45mm f1.8 is the most beautiful m43 lens I've got! I also have the Olympus 9-18mm and use it all the time, I hope mine doesn't die :(
The Olympus 9-18 has a known defect. The internal ribbon connection just shears off on its own after a finite number of collapse / extension cycles. The ribbon itself can be had on ebay, but changing it is obviously not for the faint of heart.

Interesting and informative, as usual, thanks. Like you I have both m43 and L-mount. I've picked up a few Pentax K-mount lens lately. The advantage with these is a change of adapter and you have a whole different field of view to play with. Current favourite is the Pentax K 150mm, really enjoying using this since I picked it up a couple of months back.
Splendid collection Loving the vibe of the video as usual as for me,a EM5 mark III and a combination of 17 1.8,25 1.8 and 75 1.8 w a 12-40 2.8 are all I need haha
Perfect down to earth introduction. I just sent it off to a mate who is considering m4/3. I have a lot of the lenses you have and like including lens cap, and the 12-32 and the full frame fisheye. The latter the best specialty lens I have ever had and a favourite. I don’t have the 17mm, but instead the LUMIX 20mm and 14mm pancakes which are my general favourites because they make the GX 85 very pocketable. The 14 is just my all time favourite street lens, and general purpose landscape lens. As always your content is honest - I too drop them - my 75 mm Oly🤫ouch!
I'm finding your videos so helpful and informative as they are fairly wide ranging and you really know what you're doing. I have G9 and so often get pulled and tempted by the CZcamsrs to swing to FF or Fuji. It's made me hesitate to add to my lense collection. I use the cheap Panasonic 25mm f1.7. It's so darn good but no one mentions it. I also use Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8 Pro. I just love the fast primes though and one of your more recent videos has me pressing the buy button for the Panasonic Leica 9 mm. Thanks and keep up the good work. P.S. I sell my first born for the Pan/Leica 100-400 as it's an incredble lens. We shall see. At least you've influenced me with some sanity and am likely now to stay with my MFT system. Lastly, everytime I look at the L mount or other FF lenses, not to mention the GFX lenses for medium format, it makes the MFT lenses look like a bargain. Thanks again. K

I have the original GH5 and like you have a “considered and curated collection” of lenses. My zooms are the Oly 7-14 f2.8, and the Lumix 12-35 f2.8, 35-100 f2.8 and 100-400 f4-6.3. My wide-aperture primes are the Laowa 7.5 f2.0, Leica DG 12 and 25 f1.4s, and the Leica Nocticron 42.5 f1.2. I also have a couple of macro lenses - the Lumix G 30 f2.8 (which i use to digitize old slides in a stand I made) and the Leica DG 45 f2.8 (which allows a little more distance from the lens to the macro’d object). As you commented about your collection, it’s really too many, even if each has its place. You’d never carry them all around with you to select from, and even if you took a couple, you’d have to be choosy because the cumulative weight grows pretty quickly. And the most technically superior lenses (specifically the Oly 7-14 and the Nocticron 42.5) are also the heaviest and bulkiest, so you’d be unlikely to throw them in as a spare secondary lens. Now if I had an assistant follow me around who could hand me my desired lens of the moment, well, I’d probably take all of them out except the 30 macro.
Great video! One of my favourite lens - 14-140 f3,5-5,6 for street timelapse shots. Also I'm using prime lenses - panasonic 25 f1,7, 42,5 f1,7 and oly 17 f1,7 for indoors shots and oly 35 f2,8 and 60mm f2,8 for microgreen timelapses
Great video, I've just come back from a trip to the South of UK where I took all my lenses, 56mm sigma, 25mm lumix leica, lumix 100-300, lumix 20mm and olympus 12-45 f4, I used the 20mm and 100-300 mainly, really like the 20mm focal length and size

Thanks for the video and the great images. Back in my film only days, I loved to shoot with 3-lens kits. My 3-lens kits allowed me to capture about 80% of the images I needed. My 3-lens Pentax Takumar kit: 28mm f/3.5 50mm f/1.4 135mm f/3.5 My 3-lens Nikon Nikkor kit: 24mm f/2 35mm f/1.4 85mm f/1.4 My 3-lens Leica M6 kit: 21mm f/1.4 35mm f/1.4 90mm f/2 When I purchased my first digital camera with interchangeable lenses, I purchased the Olympus E-p1 and E-p3 micro 4/3 bodies with the following three lenses: 14mm f/2.5 Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Panasonic 45mm f/1.8 Olympus I was very pleased that the micro 4/3 lenses were competitive in image quality with my Pentax, Nikkor, and Leica lenses. I also purchased adapters that allowed me to mount the fisheye, macro, perspective control, and long telephotos (135, 200, 300, 400, 500, 1000) that I needed from my Pentax and Nikon inventory.

I have only one M4/3 lens. It is the 12-40mm. It arrived yesterday, along with an EM1.3. I have had M4/3 before, but this is a fresh start. I am watching lots of videos about what other lenses would be good. 17mm and 45mm seem to be at the top of the list. This was a great video to see right now!

I used to have so many lenses and then decide which ones to take. After cancer and selling my system, I am trying to get some synergy and have the fewest lens I need for lighter weight. I have a 12-60 walkaround lens that stays on one camera. My 2 camera set up I usually use has 2 zooms 8-25/4 and 50-200/2.8-4 (1.4 and 2X). These 2 lens and a 56/1.4 in my lens pouch and I can hike all day. lndoor or lowlight, I have the 10/2 and 20/1.4 to go with the 56/1.4. I just love how well the 10 works fore events, family and groups. It replaced the 12/1.4 giving me a nicer view and a lot less weight. 10,20, and 56 works better for me than a pair of 2.8 zoom and provides a big favor to my chemo damaged body. Sometimes I take my walkaround camera along with a camera on each side for paid events. That gives me everything I need. They work together well. Thoseand 2 cameras fit in a modest size bag for travel. Only, I had to have one lens for my heart, not my needs. The 17/1.2 is that lens. I was going to get rid of the 25/1.2 and the 17/1.2 when I got the 20/1.4. But the 17/1.2 is a magical lens to me. I love using it. I love processing those wonderful RAWs. So in my simplified light system, I had to include one lens to feed my heart and soul.
My current favorite lens is the Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7. Until recently I was almost exclusively shooting with 50 and 85mm equivalents, but I moved to London in March and living in a big city, doing street photography, switching to a wider lens made a lot of a sense and I just fell in love with that lens :) Anyway, great video ! Congrats on the 5 years !!
Thank you for your review of your m43 lenses. One lens that I should definitely use more is the Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2; I bought it to experiment with portraits, but in the last couple years I got more into wildlife with my Panasonic Leica 100-400. One lens that you could probably look after is the rumored Panasonic Leica 9mm f/1.7, rumors said that they are going to announce it within a couple months.
This was a totally fun review, thanks! You are providing great feedback for us Lumix users. I have seven lenses, most of them cheap. My most expensive lens is the 12-60 Leica which I really love. Two of my Lumix lenses are ultra cheap, the 12-32 Panasonic pancake lens and the 45-150 Panasonic. Sure, they are not fast or sharp lenses but run them trough Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI and you are good to go. The micro four-thirds users are shrinking fast as Sony and Canon take over. What a lovely video. Brilliant stop motion! I love my canon ef 70-200mm f2.8. A beautifully sharp lens, but just too heavy. Keep up the good work and well done on 5 years of CZcams.
Wow...pretty great collection. I went a different way when started in M4/3-- I bought the 15mm 1.7 Pana-Leica before I ever bought a body. I found the old 4/3 Olympus lenses to be superb but useless on Panasonic AF,,(had to by a good used EM-1mk II for that)..I bought the 50-200, 12-60 2.8 . the 8mm and the 50mm f2 macro in 4/3 and the Olympus adapter for 4/3 to M4/3--especially love the macro. I suppose my favorite lens --for now-- is the Pana-Leica 8-18..it is just amazing for most of what I do. I agree with you especially on the Panasonic 35-100,, that lens does it all.
The lens filter adapter part of the lens are not too expensive to replace. The part can be found for under $20 USD. If you're handy enough and have the tools, you can replace it yourself, otherwise local technical labor rates apply.
The 17mm, 25mm, 45mm and 12-60mm are lenses I have tho the 25mm rarely gets to ride the cameras. Fave lens (most used) is the 17. Rumour has it that there's a Pana-Leica 9mm due out soon and that is (hopefully) my next buy as a super wide is a lens really I want but have so not been able to get for one reason or another... :)
Wonderful review and loved the way you categorized these based on your use! Was hoping to see if you had used the Panasonic 45-175mm, but not in the list.
I have most of Meike cine style lens and they are spectacular. All four of the Sirui Anamorphic set are also sharp and wonderful. I would love your opinion on their two versions, Standard and Mars. I rarely do paid photography so most of my vintage glass is all video oriented conversions. Of course I have way too many C mount lenses that are adapted for MFT. I should post pictures of my B4 mount Angenieux cinema style zoom lenses on "A" & "B" Panasonic GH-2 & GH-4 cameras. I really enjoy the videos you post and the information and joy of working the camera you always project.
When I didn’t see it in Emily’s collection I knew I would find it in the comments. My favourite lens in my collection. Fast primes are the best thing about the system, and this lens is one of the best of them.
nice...I've gone through a few lenses myself. Like you the Oly macro 60/2.8 was replaced by the excellent Sigma 56/1.4. Though I loved my 9-18, once I got the excellent Oly 12-45 Em5III combo I replaced the 9-18 with the Laowa 10mm f2. A 45/1.8 has disappeared and I keep an Oly 25/1.8 on an Epl7. Adapted FD lenses and a Nikkor 105/2.5 on an Em10II...All fun. Like your videos 👍
What lenses should I use more? All the prime lenses I bought for the faster aperture / smaller / shallower depth of field - play with when bought and then leave in the study. Also possibly some of the lenses I "lent" to my wife and never saw back - but used as an excuse to upgrade. The lenses I use all the time seem to be the zooms - the 12-60 you have, the Oly 7-14 and 40 - 150mm. Two I use a bit but maybe should more are the 60mm macro (comes out in spring) and the Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 which always goes on holiday and is terrific for inside buildings. Keep up the great work.
I have the Panasonic 14mm/2.5 living on my GX80 most of the time. It's extremely small and light. I can use any of the other lenses on the camera but if I want to have a small camera with me, just in case, it does the job.
I'm still relatively new to the M43 system. Started with the GH5M2 last July, which I bought with the 12-60 Lumix/Leica lens. Love that range. The next lens I bought was the 50-200 Lumix/Leica lens. Just a couple of weeks ago, I added the 8-18 as well as the Lumix 42.5F1.7 and 25mmF1.7. Probably won't use the 25mm much, but for only $150, it's kind of a "why not" lens. Would probably enjoy the 100-400 lens too, but I'm not in a rush.
I swapped from Oly 45 to Pana 42.5 1.7 to get the I.S. but after getting the PL12-60 hardly ever use it. I think half my shots are PL100-400. Just adore it for everything. The coming 9mm 1.7 will be very tempting vs the 8-18 for future purchase. Currently de-fish the rokinon 7.5 fisheye.
The Leica 12-60 was the first lens I purchased w my G9 and love it. The range makes it great for walking around or hiking lens. I use it as my everyday / go-to lens. I do love the 100-400 for wildlife. The lightweight and ease of handle for such a large zoom lens is amazing. When I show it to full-frame users they are blown away by how small and lightweight it is.
Yes, I think the 100-400 is so under rated compared to full frame equivalents, especially when you consider for birds and wildlife full frame users tend to stop down their aperture anyway!
@@MicroFourNerds Those FF equivalent lenses look like a small rocket launcher or bazooka! I go to shoot waterfowl and someone looks at me with a "what's that little lens" then I explain to them that it's an equivalent to a 200-800 FF and I don't need to carry that monopod with me either.
Well, after your review of the 9mm lumix 1.7 I have decided I will definitely order one - and sell my Leica 8-18mm f2.8-4 (so if you want one of those let me know!!)…. I have the Olympus 12-40, 40-150 and now the 300 pro (as well as PL 100-400) and so the weight advantage of just the 9mm prime tips the balance! Thanks for your channel, and enthusiasm!
Not sure if you used the sigma contemporary lenses but the 16/30/56 are my favorites for the system probably. The 16mm hardly leaves my camera. You should test those out for video and photography
Re the 12-32 - it may be slow, cheap and placticky, but it's also probably the smallest stabilised lens. And with the G100 not having IBIS, I'd say that's a must have.
It's disappointing to me that nobody makes stabilized lenses at normal focal lengths. Panasonic has never said why.. They don't make lenses that much bigger and heavier. 12-32 for example. Small non-IBIS bodies would benefit so much.
The Olympus 9mm body cap is great fun to use, and not pants like the 15mm. The LUMIX 30mm macro is one I should use more. Sharp, sharp, sharp and because of its close focusing can produce creamy blurred backgrounds.
I had the same problem for some time. So I made some charts what I usually and occasionally need and which lenses could do this. After that, I shrinked down my collection to that minimum without loosing an option. But its nowhere cheap, even when buying them all (exception 8-25) used. - 17 + 45 1.2 combo - 8-25 and 12-100 travel combo - 40-150 and 100-400 + MC14 sport/ wild life and macro photography
Awesome video thanks a lot! I am personally using 12-35 f2.8 mark II and 35-100 f2.8 mark II as a pair. They are absolutely gorgeous. And they are super awesome for hybrid shooting. Both are sharp and clean. Since they are identical in optics the color production out from them are also identical which makes it really so easy to color grade. They just have one down side: not so good in low light. So M4/3 already so limited in low light conditions and those lenses are not helping with this. Enough shallow depth of field but not good for night videography for Lumix G9. A small addition: they are incredibly good in stabilization. Both are so good but especially 12-35 is amazing because of a wider focal length. You can run handheld. But do turn off e-stabilization video. It doesn't help to stabilize.
You have to keep the Oly 45 f1.8 in your collection, I am sure there is a rule about it somewhere, all m43 owners need that lens! 😉 You should use the Oly 60mm f2.8 macro more, it is my favourite. Such a great lens.
Great video as usual, made me think a bit. I’ve just got the 100-400 (yesterday) so lots of birding coming up. I’m surprised you haven’t tried the Sigma 1.4 Toneh lenses, I got the 30mm about 2 years ago, didn’t use it much then when I did I immediately bought the other 2, so sharp, superb colours, I tend to use them as a set for video work, as they match up exactly, they tend to be a little cooler/clinical than the Lumix lenses. Will be interested in your review of the 12-60 against the 12-35, I have had the 12-60 for 3 years and I’m thinking of getting the 2.8 pair to work with it on a B cam, so colour comparison will be helpful. Keep it up!
The 12-35 and 35-100. Yes! A drunk managed to throw my 12-35 wearing the GH4 onto the floor from the tripod at a gig and smashed the lens hood. That took the brunt, fortunately (they're not cheap to replace). It dinged the filter thread. I have managed to iron out the filter thread ring with a "Sharps" toffee hammer, not by hitting it but just by rubbing to correct it. And then by cleaning out the threads with a scribe tool. I do have rather strong fingers from playing guitar. Then running a thick (58 -37?) thread adapter in and out of it it. That rim filter thread can be fixed. That thread is also used to take the objective lens out so you can to blow dust out. Which shouldn't be in there but the rubber seals dry out after a couple of years, and if a lens bellows as it does it will draw dust in. The PL100-400 is The wildlife lens. It works very well on the G9 which has simply the best stabilisation of well, anything. It's pretty big and cumbersome for a mft lens, having to keep lifting it above head height is tiresome. The 100-300 is a lot lighter but I will probably use the 45-200ii instead. I got the G9 for wildlife, I actually prefer smaller bodies for carry. Lumix 45-200ii, something of a favourite, half the weight of the Leica 50-200 and a lot cheaper. Very versatile. Macro lenses, product shots, I don't do that much now. Staged tabletop with lighting. Fairly long FL, less camera shadow, more DoF. AF is a bit of a must as MF is tricky to get nailed. However longest I have is the adapted and MF Chinon 55-225 Macro 1:1, on mft, working distance about a yard. The further away you can get, the less shadow clutter and more DoF without having to post-focus or stack. Lumix 7-14 rectilinear, don't use it much, building interiors. It is however as tough as a boot. Above 12 I'll switch to the 12-35. PZ14-42, good lens, I have two of them (not sure how and why) better than the little 12-32 off the GM1, PZ is a bit Marmite. Pancake for small bodies.
Interesting and very educational. I have a lumix Gx9 with a 0lympus 12 50 mm . Very sharp . Leica lenses have a great vintage reputation but I don't think they are anymore made in Germany. I could be wrong.
I don't have many m43 lenses as I adoat vintage glass to m43 (contax zeiss and olympus primarily + Canon, tokina, nikon...). My fav m43 lens must be the 10-25mm f/1.7. A bit bulky but great shots were taken with this lens.
I have actually managed to sell like 3 lenses in the last 12 months . . . .to make room for the 4 (used lenses) I purchased 🤷 I only have 1 novelty lens and that’s a converted CCTV lens (cost me £30) which gives a clear centre and then amazing swirly bokeh. My other 19 MFT lenses all have a need to be in my collection (probably) and so do the 5 EF mount lenses! I should point out that I am equal parts videographer (hence the EF lenses) and photographer
Apparently I've amassed a collection of 9 lenses I can use on my m43 camera... oopsie. I recently moved about half of my gear into storage so I can limit my options, and eventually sell whatever ends up never being dug out again. I've only got my 3 main lenses now and they more than cover everything, plus a macro lens because I want to get into that. I like the idea of minimalism in my setup even though I've tried and failed to maintain it lol
Will you be trying out the new OM-1 Camera of OM-Systems any time soon? Most reviews really love it for wildlife and moving objects. Also Hi-Res Mode and focus stacking seem to be amazing features. I would love to hear your opinion on it, as a Micro Four Nerd. 😁
I only own 3 lenses lol, a standard zoom, fast prime, and a telephoto. Though I haven't switched to Micro 4/3 yet so we'll see I have a Canon M50, really bummed about the discontinued mount so I'm going to micro 4/3rds for the future in that mount. My lenses are the EF-M 15-45 kit lens which has been great for me, EF-M 55-200 which is also an underrated lens in my book, and then a 35mm f0.95 that Brightinstar put out last year
Nice videos. I think you should defenitley buy more lens. So many more great ones you haven't talked about! The one I have never sold is the Panasonic 20 1.7. Will never sell it either because it shows a lot of wear!
I have as my main set EM-5 Mark III with M.Zuiko 12-40/f2,8 as an all rounder, Lumix GX 35-100/f2,8 MkII for street photography an portraits and Leica DG 25/f1,4 MkII as a backup/soft portrait lens. Whole set is water, dust and freezeproof and i use it mainly for reports indoor, expecting showers... maybe someone will drop a drink on me. Whole set weights less than 2kg with flashes and spare batteries. Leica DG 12-60/f2,8-4 is on my secondary EM-10 camera as an all rounder or travel lens, with M.Zuiko 45/1.8 for portraits. Nice lightweight lens on a small yet capable metal body with internal flash if needed. Lumix/Leica lenses are bit warmer than M.Zuikos and when used on Olympus bodies, just use UV filter to fix color aberrations and remove it if you want them. I also own M. Zuiko 75/1,8, but i really dont use it, which is a shame because its perfect portrait lens and its one of the sharpest on M43. I have as a kit lens M. Zuiko 14-42/3,5-5,6 i dont like to use it anymore, and I would like to swap it for Lumix 12-32 simply because is not electro zoom. For a special/crazy lenses, look for Sirui 50mm f/1,8. It does movie-like effects with lens flare and bokeh. Full manual lens however, heavy, but worth the hassle.
We have similar thoughts about about usefulness! You make me feel better about having just bought a 12-35 f2.8 mkII off eBay for a little less than $300 USD. I talked them down in price because it had a few tiny light scratches on the element (was it you or another CZcamsr that showed a light scratch only negligibly effects contrast?)... I am selling my kit 12-60. I thought replacing the kit 12-60 with the 12-35 was a good idea, because I also have the 45-175 w/ power ois (got it for a steal $135 & I LOVE IT). I just put it through its paces doing light wildlife in Costa Rica. It did great, and I think I'll keep it forever. I don't think I will ever invest in a faster telephoto (35-100), for a longer telephoto (100-400). Better lenses are probably too much money for this amateur. 45-175 is compact, doesn't trombone, aperture somehow slightly better than expected, very sharp, great IQ, zoom rocker for video, relatively unknown gem! Handily beats the 45-150 I used to use. I am left with a hole between 35 and 45, I don't think that's a problem.... But maybe I'll get a nice portrait lens like the 42.5 to fill the niche? Maybe someday... We think a lot alike on primes, but I go both north and south of the nifty 50. I have the 20 mm, which I use as an almost '35 equivalent ' walkabout lens, inside restaurants, photos of kids (if I catch focus), indoor events etc. I also have the sigma 30 1.4 - exact same use cases as your 25 1.4. And that's the whole kit n' caboodle. Sometimes I wonder if these are my most used lenses because: (a) they are the only lenses I have, or (b) they are the right lenses for me. Your walkthrough makes me think it's "b" 😂👍 ...now the only other doubt is do I want an ultra wide prime... 7.5mm? 15mm? 10? 12? I have no idea. I'll save that adventure for another year 😂
Very interesting the 45-175 vs 45-150 comparison! I have the 45-150 and feel I should like it (focal range, light weight) but there is something about it...you are really enthusiastic about the 45-175 what makes it better please explain more.
Olympus 75mm f1.8 is really good. If I have a wedding downtown and I can only take one backpack I bring the 75mm f1.8. If I'm in the car I have two backpacks and then I'll use the Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8 I have the the Olympus 60mm f2.8 I use it sometimes at weddings for ring photos.
Thanks for another great video! I really like my Sigma 16, 30 & 56mm. Really sharp and amazing build quality! But I just bought the 8-16mm Leica and 35-100mm mark II. I'm really loving the 8-16, such an amazing lens! But the 35-100mm II is having OIS/IBIS issues where the whole image shakes. I sorta think that I love the adapted Sigma EF 18-35mm the most though :) It's a true workhorse!
Great video. Meike fisheye only good for camera without grip. Otherwise your fingers are in the show!! About your 12-32 paqueky thing…, don’t sell it!. Just got a really tiny camera like gm1 or GX 850 and it is the most versatile lens!!. I have g9 with 12-60 wich a love it, pany 35-100 also great lens, an Oly M1 with 12-40 2,8 ( for the linear focus prior the g9 firmware update, now 12-60 it’s better), the 45,17,12 - 1.8, but the most usual grab and go camera is the little gx850 with the 12-32 for the street photos, or at least have the camera with me to avoid the feeling to see something and not have a camera with me. Interesting. I splurged and have the Leica 8-18, 12-60 and 50-200 and use them on my G9. I love them all with the 50-200 being my favorite. I also have the 2x extender for that. Did I hear you say the 8-18 is heavy? I'm comparing it to my Canon lenses, so everything seems so light and useful.
Maybe the Twin Panasonic leica f1.7 10 - 25 & 25 - 50 combo could replace 90% of your horded collection xD I'm considering buying a mft system over a full fame these two lenses seem to be a 'do everything' hack short of telephotography. ofcourse I'd be using it more for video than stills and you seem to be more of a stills photographer. Quite the line-up. 👍The PL8-18 was my choice, it is not large for what it is, even though the Olympus is downright miniscule, but when I bought mine the local price difference was just about 1/3 more for the PL so the choice wasnt really that hard, especially as the break-downs of the 9-18s began surfacing about the time I was looking for wides. Other than that, the PL15mm and L42.5 stoked my interests in primes. I had and used the Oly 17 quite a bit but the 45mm was just standing around and gave no joy. So being curious about the Lumix offerings I tried them when "cheap" second hand copies came about. The only thing I wish for now, is that Panasonic could take some proper responsibility and bring to market a nice, tiny stabilised 25 f:1.7 to round off a set of nice primes, matching the PL15 and P42,5. The PL25mm is nice but beastly in size compared to the other two and the plastic 25 mm is just an abomination, I have had both but just the PL is left... 🙂
I’m definitely eyeing up the 8-18 after my oly 9-18 has died. I’ve heard a few people have the same issues as me with that lens as well! I also really love the PL25… but you’re totally right there’s no need for it to be so plastic-y for the price!
@@MicroFourNerds I was thinking about the 25 f:1.7, it is rather horrible, works decently enough but it is one of those "what were they thinking, bringing this one out?" sort of contraptions. Had to twist the PL off the camera and fondle it a bit and yup, it is also plasticy but in some sort of nice way. 😂 I got the 25mm f:1.7 free with the GX8 when I bought it so cant really complain on the price. Selling that and buying the second hand PL25, left me about €150 out of pocket so cant really complain on that particular trade-up.
I think you should buy the new Laowa 6mm! I'm trying to justify it myself lol Like you I have the 60mm 2.8 macro and just don't use it enough. Same with the 45mm 1.8 - I tend to use the 35-100 2.8ii instead which is surprisingly good for portraits Going back to the 12-32, I'd never sell mine. On the gx9 and similar small cameras it is the perfect discreet kit lens
I love my Leica 100-400. Stabilization is hit or miss on my Oly EM1-2, but it's much better than the budget-friendly 75-300. It does get a bit blurry at 300mm+, but the fact that you can shoot 1600mm equiv. (EDIT: *800mm equiv.*) hand-held is unbeatable by any other lenses. Although, I should practice way much more to get a decent bird photo... One lens that I'd like to recommend, which may fall into the weird lenses category, is Mitakon 25mm f0.95. At max aperture it's kind of blurry, which gives it a vintage-ish feel, but when stopped down to about f2 it gets insanely sharp. It's heavy for an m43 lens and it's MF, but I find it fun to use. There are several other 25mm f0.95 lenses to choose from, but the Mitakon is the most compact one. Also Olympus 12-100 f4 pro is probably the most versatile lens ever. It's ridiculously sharp with absolutely no need for stopping down. It's bulky and heavy for an m43 lens, but you can cover from 24mm equiv. to 200mm equiv. without ever changing the lens, making it ideal for travel.
@@baronnuuke7821 you're absolutely right! I was like '400mm, that's 800mm equiv.', then when I typed it my mind somehow went 'hey there's a 2x crop factor so that's 1600' and I was like 'ok 1600 it is' lol.
really interesting and wonderful pics…. love the ones with rich colours were they natural or with colour filters? A bit dismayed you don’t have many olympics lenses… do you just think Panasonic are better? I’m all olympused up. but can return some to mpb if I decide to….
There are some absolutely amazing Olympus lenses - I just find the lumix lenses focus better on lumix bodies, and there’s also the benefit of dual stabilisation if the lens is stabilised. But I have used some great Olympus lenses in my time 😁
Thanks for your fabulous overview. One lens you haven't mentioned is the Lumix 14-140mm f4-5.6. I am currently toying with the idea. Would love to hear your opinion.
@@MrCalvinGu possibly even 3 I think (the original 4-5.6 and the newer 3.5-5.6 in two different versions). I understand that they are all good (don't own one but I'm keeping an eye open) though the newer ones are better and correspondingly fetch higher prices.
The Pany 20MM F1.7 is welded onto my Pen camera, it,s superb. Btw, the Mk1 version is better. The Olympus 75 MM F1.8 is the sharpest len,s money can buy for M4/3, period.
Nice collection of lenses don't feel to bad about what I have built up in the 11 years of shooting mu4/3 9 primes ranging from a 7.5 fish eye to 56mm and 6 zooms yes a few like you are a bit of an overlap and should probably sell the older cheaper versions but not get much for them and if I need to pack small or smaller in mu terms I can use them. Just don't start about camera bodies 😂 (and yes a few of those as well but all get used both conventional and converted)
@@MicroFourNerds I have been ruminating about what lens to buy at the ultra wide end to complement my 25mm f1.4 and 14-140mm II. I also have a Canon 5D III set up, with 4 EF lenses which I use with a Viltrox speed booster on my G9. The main MFT option I have been considering is the Leica 8-18mm. By all accounts a great lens, but not that fast and not that light, small or inexpensive (when bought new). Then Canon released the RF 16mm f2.8. This caused me to seriously flirt with the idea of acquiring a Canon RF mount camera. BUT… the 9mm f1.7 with the benefit of the amazing Ex Tele Zoom function to be a 12.6mm F2.4 in 4K video. Where 1080p is acceptable, it is also an 18mm F3.4 using the 2x Ex Tele Zoom. BOOM! Problem solved: 9-18mm with f1.7 to f3.4!
Two fantastic lenses you " MUST " own.....1) Sigma 56mm f1.4. Beautiful portrait lens, you won't regret it. 2) The Panny Leica 10 - 25 f1.7. Yes it's expensive but this is a truly WOW lens and worth every penny. 😊
My Lens, i should use more is the Porst 50mm 1.7 with m42 mount. It is mit really Sharp, it is mit really easy to Focus (my 50mm 1.8 Canon FD ist much better in this) but i Love the Look and the bokeh. Really want to see you Testing the Sigma 16mm,30mm and 56mm f1.4 !!! ;)

Since my first camera was the GH5 my favorite lens are the Panasonic Leica 12-60 f2.8-f4.0 as all round len and the Panasonic Leica 12mm f1.4 for capture the northen lights in video mode (yes is a bit difficult but with some tricks can be possible)

This is indeed an obscene number of lenses, congratulations! I don't use it enough but the Olympus 45mm f1.8 is the most beautiful m43 lens I've got! I also have the Olympus 9-18mm and use it all the time, I hope mine doesn't die :(

The Olympus 9-18 has a known defect. The internal ribbon connection just shears off on its own after a finite number of collapse / extension cycles. The ribbon itself can be had on ebay, but changing it is obviously not for the faint of heart.

Interesting and informative, as usual, thanks. Like you I have both m43 and L-mount. I've picked up a few Pentax K-mount lens lately. The advantage with these is a change of adapter and you have a whole different field of view to play with. Current favourite is the Pentax K 150mm, really enjoying using this since I picked it up a couple of months back.

Perfect down to earth introduction. I just sent it off to a mate who is considering m4/3. I have a lot of the lenses you have and like including lens cap, and the 12-32 and the full frame fisheye. The latter the best specialty lens I have ever had and a favourite. I don’t have the 17mm, but instead the LUMIX 20mm and 14mm pancakes which are my general favourites because they make the GX 85 very pocketable. The 14 is just my all time favourite street lens, and general purpose landscape lens. As always your content is honest - I too drop them - my 75 mm Oly🤫ouch!
I'm finding your videos so helpful and informative as they are fairly wide ranging and you really know what you're doing. I have G9 and so often get pulled and tempted by the CZcamsrs to swing to FF or Fuji. It's made me hesitate to add to my lense collection. I use the cheap Panasonic 25mm f1.7. It's so darn good but no one mentions it. I also use Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8 Pro. I just love the fast primes though and one of your more recent videos has me pressing the buy button for the Panasonic Leica 9 mm. Thanks and keep up the good work. P.S. I sell my first born for the Pan/Leica 100-400 as it's an incredble lens. We shall see. At least you've influenced me with some sanity and am likely now to stay with my MFT system. Lastly, everytime I look at the L mount or other FF lenses, not to mention the GFX lenses for medium format, it makes the MFT lenses look like a bargain. Thanks again. K

I have the original GH5 and like you have a “considered and curated collection” of lenses. My zooms are the Oly 7-14 f2.8, and the Lumix 12-35 f2.8, 35-100 f2.8 and 100-400 f4-6.3. My wide-aperture primes are the Laowa 7.5 f2.0, Leica DG 12 and 25 f1.4s, and the Leica Nocticron 42.5 f1.2. I also have a couple of macro lenses - the Lumix G 30 f2.8 (which i use to digitize old slides in a stand I made) and the Leica DG 45 f2.8 (which allows a little more distance from the lens to the macro’d object). As you commented about your collection, it’s really too many, even if each has its place. You’d never carry them all around with you to select from, and even if you took a couple, you’d have to be choosy because the cumulative weight grows pretty quickly. And the most technically superior lenses (specifically the Oly 7-14 and the Nocticron 42.5) are also the heaviest and bulkiest, so you’d be unlikely to throw them in as a spare secondary lens. Now if I had an assistant follow me around who could hand me my desired lens of the moment, well, I’d probably take all of them out except the 30 macro.
Great video! One of my favourite lens - 14-140 f3,5-5,6 for street timelapse shots. Also I'm using prime lenses - panasonic 25 f1,7, 42,5 f1,7 and oly 17 f1,7 for indoors shots and oly 35 f2,8 and 60mm f2,8 for microgreen timelapses
Great video, I've just come back from a trip to the South of UK where I took all my lenses, 56mm sigma, 25mm lumix leica, lumix 100-300, lumix 20mm and olympus 12-45 f4, I used the 20mm and 100-300 mainly, really like the 20mm focal length and size

The lens I should use more is also my most expensive, sadly… the Olympus 17/1.2 Pro. It’s absolutely wonderful, but I think the size makes me grab other lenses first.😭

When I purchased my first digital camera with interchangeable lenses, I purchased the Olympus E-p1 and E-p3 micro 4/3 bodies with the following three lenses:

I was very pleased that the micro 4/3 lenses were competitive in image quality with my Pentax, Nikkor, and Leica lenses.
I also purchased adapters that allowed me to mount the fisheye, macro, perspective control, and long telephotos (135, 200, 300, 400, 500, 1000) that I needed from my Pentax and Nikon inventory.

I have only one M4/3 lens. It is the 12-40mm. It arrived yesterday, along with an EM1.3. I have had M4/3 before, but this is a fresh start. I am watching lots of videos about what other lenses would be good. 17mm and 45mm seem to be at the top of the list. This was a great video to see right now!

Oh, i just found my favorite channel finally 😊
I used to have so many lenses and then decide which ones to take. After cancer and selling my system, I am trying to get some synergy and have the fewest lens I need for lighter weight. I have a 12-60 walkaround lens that stays on one camera. My 2 camera set up I usually use has 2 zooms 8-25/4 and 50-200/2.8-4 (1.4 and 2X). These 2 lens and a 56/1.4 in my lens pouch and I can hike all day. lndoor or lowlight, I have the 10/2 and 20/1.4 to go with the 56/1.4. I just love how well the 10 works fore events, family and groups. It replaced the 12/1.4 giving me a nicer view and a lot less weight. 10,20, and 56 works better for me than a pair of 2.8 zoom and provides a big favor to my chemo damaged body. Sometimes I take my walkaround camera along with a camera on each side for paid events. That gives me everything I need. They work together well. Thoseand 2 cameras fit in a modest size bag for travel. Only, I had to have one lens for my heart, not my needs. The 17/1.2 is that lens. I was going to get rid of the 25/1.2 and the 17/1.2 when I got the 20/1.4. But the 17/1.2 is a magical lens to me. I love using it. I love processing those wonderful RAWs. So in my simplified light system, I had to include one lens to feed my heart and soul.
My current favorite lens is the Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7. Until recently I was almost exclusively shooting with 50 and 85mm equivalents, but I moved to London in March and living in a big city, doing street photography, switching to a wider lens made a lot of a sense and I just fell in love with that lens :)

I also bought one for 100 euro with them DJI logo. The only difference between the Pana and DJI one is a different coating

My 15mm sits mostly on my gx9 for street photography. Great lens and plenty fast enough too
Thank you for your review of your m43 lenses. One lens that I should definitely use more is the Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2; I bought it to experiment with portraits, but in the last couple years I got more into wildlife with my Panasonic Leica 100-400. One lens that you could probably look after is the rumored Panasonic Leica 9mm f/1.7, rumors said that they are going to announce it within a couple months.
I’d LOVE it if those rumours were true - perfect timing with my broken oly 9-18mm if so!
This was a totally fun review, thanks! You are providing great feedback for us Lumix users. I have seven lenses, most of them cheap. My most expensive lens is the 12-60 Leica which I really love. Two of my Lumix lenses are ultra cheap, the 12-32 Panasonic pancake lens and the 45-150 Panasonic. Sure, they are not fast or sharp lenses but run them trough Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI and you are good to go. The micro four-thirds users are shrinking fast as Sony and Canon take over. Thanks for a great resource to go to.

Wow...pretty great collection. I went a different way when started in M4/3-- I bought the 15mm 1.7 Pana-Leica before I ever bought a body. I found the old 4/3 Olympus lenses to be superb but useless on Panasonic AF,,(had to by a good used EM-1mk II for that)..I bought the 50-200, 12-60 2.8 . the 8mm and the 50mm f2 macro in 4/3 and the Olympus adapter for 4/3 to M4/3--especially love the macro. I suppose my favorite lens --for now-- is the Pana-Leica 8-18..it is just amazing for most of what I do. I agree with you especially on the Panasonic 35-100,, that lens does it all.
The lens filter adapter part of the lens are not too expensive to replace. The part can be found for under $20 USD. If you're handy enough and have the tools, you can replace it yourself, otherwise local technical labor rates apply.
The 17mm, 25mm, 45mm and 12-60mm are lenses I have tho the 25mm rarely gets to ride the cameras. Fave lens (most used) is the 17.
Rumour has it that there's a Pana-Leica 9mm due out soon and that is (hopefully) my next buy as a super wide is a lens really I want but have so not been able to get for one reason or another... :)
Wonderful review and loved the way you categorized these based on your use! Was hoping to see if you had used the Panasonic 45-175mm, but not in the list.
I have most of Meike cine style lens and they are spectacular. All four of the Sirui Anamorphic set are also sharp and wonderful. I would love your opinion on their two versions, Standard and Mars. I rarely do paid photography so most of my vintage glass is all video oriented conversions. Of course I have way too many C mount lenses that are adapted for MFT. I should post pictures of my B4 mount Angenieux cinema style zoom lenses on "A" & "B" Panasonic GH-2 & GH-4 cameras. I really enjoy the videos you post and the information and joy of working the camera you always project.

nice...I've gone through a few lenses myself. Like you the Oly macro 60/2.8 was replaced by the excellent Sigma 56/1.4. Though I loved my 9-18, once I got the excellent Oly 12-45 Em5III combo I replaced the 9-18 with the Laowa 10mm f2. A 45/1.8 has disappeared and I keep an Oly 25/1.8 on an Epl7. Adapted FD lenses and a Nikkor 105/2.5 on an Em10II...All fun. Like your videos 👍
What lenses should I use more? All the prime lenses I bought for the faster aperture / smaller / shallower depth of field - play with when bought and then leave in the study. Also possibly some of the lenses I "lent" to my wife and never saw back - but used as an excuse to upgrade. The lenses I use all the time seem to be the zooms - the 12-60 you have, the Oly 7-14 and 40 - 150mm. Two I use a bit but maybe should more are the 60mm macro (comes out in spring) and the Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 which always goes on holiday and is terrific for inside buildings. Keep up the great work.
I have the Panasonic 14mm/2.5 living on my GX80 most of the time. It's extremely small and light. I can use any of the other lenses on the camera but if I want to have a small camera with me, just in case, it does the job.
The 35-100 is also good for doggies I've learnt thanks to you ❤😍
I'm still relatively new to the M43 system. Started with the GH5M2 last July, which I bought with the 12-60 Lumix/Leica lens. Love that range. The next lens I bought was the 50-200 Lumix/Leica lens. Just a couple of weeks ago, I added the 8-18 as well as the Lumix 42.5F1.7 and 25mmF1.7. Probably won't use the 25mm much, but for only $150, it's kind of a "why not" lens. Would probably enjoy the 100-400 lens too, but I'm not in a rush.

- Olympus 45mm f1.8
- Panasonic 14 - 140mm f3.5 - f5.6
- Leica 12 - 60mm is pretty nicee too
- Panasonic 20mm f1.7
- Helios 44/2 58mm f2 (when adopted to mft looks fire)

I swapped from Oly 45 to Pana 42.5 1.7 to get the I.S. but after getting the PL12-60 hardly ever use it. I think half my shots are PL100-400. Just adore it for everything. The coming 9mm 1.7 will be very tempting vs the 8-18 for future purchase. Currently de-fish the rokinon 7.5 fisheye.
The Leica 12-60 was the first lens I purchased w my G9 and love it. The range makes it great for walking around or hiking lens. I use it as my everyday / go-to lens. I do love the 100-400 for wildlife. The lightweight and ease of handle for such a large zoom lens is amazing. When I show it to full-frame users they are blown away by how small and lightweight it is.
Yes, I think the 100-400 is so under rated compared to full frame equivalents, especially when you consider for birds and wildlife full frame users tend to stop down their aperture anyway!
@@MicroFourNerds Those FF equivalent lenses look like a small rocket launcher or bazooka! I go to shoot waterfowl and someone looks at me with a "what's that little lens" then I explain to them that it's an equivalent to a 200-800 FF and I don't need to carry that monopod with me either.
Well, after your review of the 9mm lumix 1.7 I have decided I will definitely order one - and sell my Leica 8-18mm f2.8-4 (so if you want one of those let me know!!)…. I have the Olympus 12-40, 40-150 and now the 300 pro (as well as PL 100-400) and so the weight advantage of just the 9mm prime tips the balance! Thanks for your channel, and enthusiasm!
Not sure if you used the sigma contemporary lenses but the 16/30/56 are my favorites for the system probably. The 16mm hardly leaves my camera. You should test those out for video and photography
Re the 12-32 - it may be slow, cheap and placticky, but it's also probably the smallest stabilised lens. And with the G100 not having IBIS, I'd say that's a must have.
It's disappointing to me that nobody makes stabilized lenses at normal focal lengths. Panasonic has never said why.. They don't make lenses that much bigger and heavier. 12-32 for example. Small non-IBIS bodies would benefit so much.
The Olympus 9mm body cap is great fun to use, and not pants like the 15mm. The LUMIX 30mm macro is one I should use more. Sharp, sharp, sharp and because of its close focusing can produce creamy blurred backgrounds.
I had the same problem for some time. So I made some charts what I usually and occasionally need and which lenses could do this. After that, I shrinked down my collection to that minimum without loosing an option. But its nowhere cheap, even when buying them all (exception 8-25) used.
- 17 + 45 1.2 combo
- 8-25 and 12-100 travel combo
- 40-150 and 100-400 + MC14 sport/ wild life and macro photography
Awesome video thanks a lot! I am personally using 12-35 f2.8 mark II and 35-100 f2.8 mark II as a pair. They are absolutely gorgeous. And they are super awesome for hybrid shooting. Both are sharp and clean. Since they are identical in optics the color production out from them are also identical which makes it really so easy to color grade. They just have one down side: not so good in low light. So M4/3 already so limited in low light conditions and those lenses are not helping with this. Enough shallow depth of field but not good for night videography for Lumix G9.
A small addition: they are incredibly good in stabilization. Both are so good but especially 12-35 is amazing because of a wider focal length. You can run handheld. But do turn off e-stabilization video. It doesn't help to stabilize.
You have to keep the Oly 45 f1.8 in your collection, I am sure there is a rule about it somewhere, all m43 owners need that lens! 😉
You should use the Oly 60mm f2.8 macro more, it is my favourite. Such a great lens.
Great video as usual, made me think a bit. I’ve just got the 100-400 (yesterday) so lots of birding coming up. I’m surprised you haven’t tried the Sigma 1.4 Toneh lenses, I got the 30mm about 2 years ago, didn’t use it much then when I did I immediately bought the other 2, so sharp, superb colours, I tend to use them as a set for video work, as they match up exactly, they tend to be a little cooler/clinical than the Lumix lenses. Will be interested in your review of the 12-60 against the 12-35, I have had the 12-60 for 3 years and I’m thinking of getting the 2.8 pair to work with it on a B cam, so colour comparison will be helpful. Keep it up!

The 12-35 and 35-100. Yes!
A drunk managed to throw my 12-35 wearing the GH4 onto the floor from the tripod at a gig and smashed the lens hood. That took the brunt, fortunately (they're not cheap to replace). It dinged the filter thread. I have managed to iron out the filter thread ring with a "Sharps" toffee hammer, not by hitting it but just by rubbing to correct it. And then by cleaning out the threads with a scribe tool. I do have rather strong fingers from playing guitar. Then running a thick (58 -37?) thread adapter in and out of it it. That rim filter thread can be fixed.
That thread is also used to take the objective lens out so you can to blow dust out. Which shouldn't be in there but the rubber seals dry out after a couple of years, and if a lens bellows as it does it will draw dust in.
The PL100-400 is The wildlife lens. It works very well on the G9 which has simply the best stabilisation of well, anything. It's pretty big and cumbersome for a mft lens, having to keep lifting it above head height is tiresome. The 100-300 is a lot lighter but I will probably use the 45-200ii instead. I got the G9 for wildlife, I actually prefer smaller bodies for carry.
Lumix 45-200ii, something of a favourite, half the weight of the Leica 50-200 and a lot cheaper. Very versatile.
Macro lenses, product shots, I don't do that much now. Staged tabletop with lighting. Fairly long FL, less camera shadow, more DoF. AF is a bit of a must as MF is tricky to get nailed. However longest I have is the adapted and MF Chinon 55-225 Macro 1:1, on mft, working distance about a yard. The further away you can get, the less shadow clutter and more DoF without having to post-focus or stack.
Lumix 7-14 rectilinear, don't use it much, building interiors. It is however as tough as a boot. Above 12 I'll switch to the 12-35.
PZ14-42, good lens, I have two of them (not sure how and why) better than the little 12-32 off the GM1, PZ is a bit Marmite. Pancake for small bodies.

If you're ok with manual focus (and prime obv), check out the Laowa 10mm f2 to replace the 9-18! Super sharp and seriously tiny
Interesting and very educational. I have a lumix Gx9 with a 0lympus 12 50 mm . Very sharp . Leica lenses have a great vintage reputation but I don't think they are anymore made in Germany. I could be wrong.
I don't have many m43 lenses as I adoat vintage glass to m43 (contax zeiss and olympus primarily + Canon, tokina, nikon...). My fav m43 lens must be the 10-25mm f/1.7. A bit bulky but great shots were taken with this lens.
I have actually managed to sell like 3 lenses in the last 12 months . . . .to make room for the 4 (used lenses) I purchased 🤷
I only have 1 novelty lens and that’s a converted CCTV lens (cost me £30) which gives a clear centre and then amazing swirly bokeh.
My other 19 MFT lenses all have a need to be in my collection (probably) and so do the 5 EF mount lenses!
I should point out that I am equal parts videographer (hence the EF lenses) and photographer
Apparently I've amassed a collection of 9 lenses I can use on my m43 camera... oopsie. I recently moved about half of my gear into storage so I can limit my options, and eventually sell whatever ends up never being dug out again. I've only got my 3 main lenses now and they more than cover everything, plus a macro lens because I want to get into that. I like the idea of minimalism in my setup even though I've tried and failed to maintain it lol

The lens I use most on m4/3 is a vintage Olympus Zuiko 50/3.5 macro. It's a great lens, and on m4/3 it gives 1:1. Apart from that, it's the 25/1.8.

I only own 3 lenses lol, a standard zoom, fast prime, and a telephoto. Though I haven't switched to Micro 4/3 yet so we'll see
I have a Canon M50, really bummed about the discontinued mount so I'm going to micro 4/3rds for the future in that mount. My lenses are the EF-M 15-45 kit lens which has been great for me, EF-M 55-200 which is also an underrated lens in my book, and then a 35mm f0.95 that Brightinstar put out last year

The one I have never sold is the Panasonic 20 1.7. Will never sell it either because it shows a lot of wear!

I have as my main set EM-5 Mark III with M.Zuiko 12-40/f2,8 as an all rounder, Lumix GX 35-100/f2,8 MkII for street photography an portraits and Leica DG 25/f1,4 MkII as a backup/soft portrait lens. Whole set is water, dust and freezeproof and i use it mainly for reports indoor, expecting showers... maybe someone will drop a drink on me. Whole set weights less than 2kg with flashes and spare batteries.
Leica DG 12-60/f2,8-4 is on my secondary EM-10 camera as an all rounder or travel lens, with M.Zuiko 45/1.8 for portraits. Nice lightweight lens on a small yet capable metal body with internal flash if needed.
Lumix/Leica lenses are bit warmer than M.Zuikos and when used on Olympus bodies, just use UV filter to fix color aberrations and remove it if you want them.
I also own M. Zuiko 75/1,8, but i really dont use it, which is a shame because its perfect portrait lens and its one of the sharpest on M43. I have as a kit lens M. Zuiko 14-42/3,5-5,6 i dont like to use it anymore, and I would like to swap it for Lumix 12-32 simply because is not electro zoom.
For a special/crazy lenses, look for Sirui 50mm f/1,8. It does movie-like effects with lens flare and bokeh. Full manual lens however, heavy, but worth the hassle.
I need that comparison.

You make me feel better about having just bought a 12-35 f2.8 mkII off eBay for a little less than $300 USD. I talked them down in price because it had a few tiny light scratches on the element (was it you or another CZcamsr that showed a light scratch only negligibly effects contrast?)...
I am selling my kit 12-60.
I thought replacing the kit 12-60 with the 12-35 was a good idea, because I also have the 45-175 w/ power ois (got it for a steal $135 & I LOVE IT). I just put it through its paces doing light wildlife in Costa Rica. It did great, and I think I'll keep it forever. I don't think I will ever invest in a faster telephoto (35-100), for a longer telephoto (100-400). Better lenses are probably too much money for this amateur. 45-175 is compact, doesn't trombone, aperture somehow slightly better than expected, very sharp, great IQ, zoom rocker for video, relatively unknown gem! Handily beats the 45-150 I used to use.
I am left with a hole between 35 and 45, I don't think that's a problem.... But maybe I'll get a nice portrait lens like the 42.5 to fill the niche? Maybe someday...
We think a lot alike on primes, but I go both north and south of the nifty 50. I have the 20 mm, which I use as an almost '35 equivalent ' walkabout lens, inside restaurants, photos of kids (if I catch focus), indoor events etc. I also have the sigma 30 1.4 - exact same use cases as your 25 1.4.
And that's the whole kit n' caboodle. Sometimes I wonder if these are my most used lenses because: (a) they are the only lenses I have, or (b) they are the right lenses for me.

Very interesting the 45-175 vs 45-150 comparison! I have the 45-150 and feel I should like it (focal range, light weight) but there is something about it...you are really enthusiastic about the 45-175 what makes it better please explain more.
Zuiko 75mm 1.8! I love this lens! It is so good but I wish OM systems would come out with a weather sealed option
Olympus 75mm f1.8 is really good. If I have a wedding downtown and I can only take one backpack I bring the 75mm f1.8. If I'm in the car I have two backpacks and then I'll use the Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8
I have the the Olympus 60mm f2.8 I use it sometimes at weddings for ring photos.
If you have a chance, try the Olympus 8-25mm f4 Pro. Expensive but crazy good.

But I just bought the 8-16mm Leica and 35-100mm mark II. I'm really loving the 8-16, such an amazing lens! But the 35-100mm II is having OIS/IBIS issues where the whole image shakes.
I sorta think that I love the adapted Sigma EF 18-35mm the most though :) It's a true workhorse!

About your 12-32 paqueky thing…, don’t sell it!. Just got a really tiny camera like gm1 or GX 850 and it is the most versatile lens!!. I have g9 with 12-60 wich a love it, pany 35-100 also great lens, an Oly M1 with 12-40 2,8 ( for the linear focus prior the g9 firmware update, now 12-60 it’s better), the 45,17,12 - 1.8, but the most usual grab and go camera is the little gx850 with the 12-32 for the street photos, or at least have the camera with me to avoid the feeling to see something and not have a camera with me.
The lens you should try: oly 75 1,8

Interesting. I splurged and have the Leica 8-18, 12-60 and 50-200 and use them on my G9. I love them all with the 50-200 being my favorite. I also have the 2x extender for that. Did I hear you say the 8-18 is heavy? I'm comparing it to my Canon lenses, so everything seems so light and useful.
Definitely light compared to other systems. Such a good lens! Just comparing it to my Olympus 9-18mm which is plastic fantastic haha
12-50 f/3.5-6.3 macro is my walk around do everything lens.
Maybe the Twin Panasonic leica f1.7 10 - 25 & 25 - 50 combo could replace 90% of your horded collection xD I'm considering buying a mft system over a full fame these two lenses seem to be a 'do everything' hack short of telephotography. ofcourse I'd be using it more for video than stills and you seem to be more of a stills photographer. Quite the line-up. 👍The PL8-18 was my choice, it is not large for what it is, even though the Olympus is downright miniscule, but when I bought mine the local price difference was just about 1/3 more for the PL so the choice wasnt really that hard, especially as the break-downs of the 9-18s began surfacing about the time I was looking for wides. Other than that, the PL15mm and L42.5 stoked my interests in primes. I had and used the Oly 17 quite a bit but the 45mm was just standing around and gave no joy. So being curious about the Lumix offerings I tried them when "cheap" second hand copies came about. The only thing I wish for now, is that Panasonic could take some proper responsibility and bring to market a nice, tiny stabilised 25 f:1.7 to round off a set of nice primes, matching the PL15 and P42,5. The PL25mm is nice but beastly in size compared to the other two and the plastic 25 mm is just an abomination, I have had both but just the PL is left... 🙂
I’m definitely eyeing up the 8-18 after my oly 9-18 has died. I’ve heard a few people have the same issues as me with that lens as well! I also really love the PL25… but you’re totally right there’s no need for it to be so plastic-y for the price!
@@MicroFourNerds I was thinking about the 25 f:1.7, it is rather horrible, works decently enough but it is one of those "what were they thinking, bringing this one out?" sort of contraptions. Had to twist the PL off the camera and fondle it a bit and yup, it is also plasticy but in some sort of nice way. 😂 I got the 25mm f:1.7 free with the GX8 when I bought it so cant really complain on the price. Selling that and buying the second hand PL25, left me about €150 out of pocket so cant really complain on that particular trade-up.

Like you I have the 60mm 2.8 macro and just don't use it enough. Same with the 45mm 1.8 - I tend to use the 35-100 2.8ii instead which is surprisingly good for portraits
Going back to the 12-32, I'd never sell mine. On the gx9 and similar small cameras it is the perfect discreet kit lens
I love my Leica 100-400. Stabilization is hit or miss on my Oly EM1-2, but it's much better than the budget-friendly 75-300. It does get a bit blurry at 300mm+, but the fact that you can shoot 1600mm equiv. (EDIT: *800mm equiv.*) hand-held is unbeatable by any other lenses. Although, I should practice way much more to get a decent bird photo...
One lens that I'd like to recommend, which may fall into the weird lenses category, is Mitakon 25mm f0.95. At max aperture it's kind of blurry, which gives it a vintage-ish feel, but when stopped down to about f2 it gets insanely sharp. It's heavy for an m43 lens and it's MF, but I find it fun to use. There are several other 25mm f0.95 lenses to choose from, but the Mitakon is the most compact one.
Also Olympus 12-100 f4 pro is probably the most versatile lens ever. It's ridiculously sharp with absolutely no need for stopping down. It's bulky and heavy for an m43 lens, but you can cover from 24mm equiv. to 200mm equiv. without ever changing the lens, making it ideal for travel.
shouldn't the mft crop factor be x2 ? 100-400=200-800, not 1600?
@@baronnuuke7821 you're absolutely right! I was like '400mm, that's 800mm equiv.', then when I typed it my mind somehow went 'hey there's a 2x crop factor so that's 1600' and I was like 'ok 1600 it is' lol.
really interesting and wonderful pics…. love the ones with rich colours were they natural or with colour filters? A bit dismayed you don’t have many olympics lenses… do you just think Panasonic are better? I’m all olympused up. but can return some to mpb if I decide to….
There are some absolutely amazing Olympus lenses - I just find the lumix lenses focus better on lumix bodies, and there’s also the benefit of dual stabilisation if the lens is stabilised. But I have used some great Olympus lenses in my time 😁

@@MrCalvinGu possibly even 3 I think (the original 4-5.6 and the newer 3.5-5.6 in two different versions). I understand that they are all good (don't own one but I'm keeping an eye open) though the newer ones are better and correspondingly fetch higher prices.
The Pany 20MM F1.7 is welded onto my Pen camera, it,s superb. Btw, the Mk1 version is better. The Olympus 75 MM F1.8 is the sharpest len,s money can buy for M4/3, period.
Nice collection of lenses don't feel to bad about what I have built up in the 11 years of shooting mu4/3 9 primes ranging from a 7.5 fish eye to 56mm and 6 zooms yes a few like you are a bit of an overlap and should probably sell the older cheaper versions but not get much for them and if I need to pack small or smaller in mu terms I can use them. Just don't start about camera bodies 😂 (and yes a few of those as well but all get used both conventional and converted)
Sigma 16 mm F1.4. This lens basically lives on my G9. As others have said - amazing quality, and good Continuous AF on the G9.

For ultra wide: the rumoured LEICA 9mm F1.7 SUMMILUX ASPH. LIGHT, FAST, WIDE. A MUST HAVE LENS. YEAY!

@@MicroFourNerds I have been ruminating about what lens to buy at the ultra wide end to complement my 25mm f1.4 and 14-140mm II. I also have a Canon 5D III set up, with 4 EF lenses which I use with a Viltrox speed booster on my G9. The main MFT option I have been considering is the Leica 8-18mm. By all accounts a great lens, but not that fast and not that light, small or inexpensive (when bought new).
Then Canon released the RF 16mm f2.8. This caused me to seriously flirt with the idea of acquiring a Canon RF mount camera. BUT… the 9mm f1.7 with the benefit of the amazing Ex Tele Zoom function to be a 12.6mm F2.4 in 4K video. Where 1080p is acceptable, it is also an 18mm F3.4 using the 2x Ex Tele Zoom. BOOM! Problem solved: 9-18mm with f1.7 to f3.4!
Two fantastic lenses you " MUST " own.....1) Sigma 56mm f1.4. Beautiful portrait lens, you won't regret it. 2) The Panny Leica 10 - 25 f1.7. Yes it's expensive but this is a truly WOW lens and worth every penny. 😊

My Lens, i should use more is the Porst 50mm 1.7 with m42 mount. It is mit really Sharp, it is mit really easy to Focus (my 50mm 1.8 Canon FD ist much better in this) but i Love the Look and the bokeh.
