Touring with Rico Nasty, a Paper Magazine cover star and known as the internet's "shy girl," CLIP's come-up has been well worth watching from the jump. The Brooklyn-born, Fort Worth, Texas native knows that without diligence, "manifestation" would be for naught. A believer in this, she had to work hard to get where she is, not just entrust that the universe would give it to her.
The juxtaposition of stories like her running away from home -- "scamming" by selling rose water serums to scrape by -- to being co-signed by Ariana Grande seemingly overnight is enigmatic in itself. And yet, Clip embodies this aura ten-fold; her personality is infectious. A "SAD B!TCH" at her core, the artist's viral track saw artists like Grande, Rico Nasty, Black Kray and Matt Ox all gravitate towards her sound. However, she's not a rapper, she's a "rockstar" refusing to be boxed in by genre norms or industry expectations. Oft-emo, garage, drum-and-bass, and electro-grunge ultimately intertwine her brash but "cute" sound all together.
CLIP's breakout EP 'PERCEPTION' was where she initially saw the validation of her art. Her fans have always had her back, though, as her die-hard Twitter following has evidently propelled (and supported) her since day 1. Whether you know her as CLIP the artist or bloodyclip online (in fact, she doesn't care what you call her), her August EP 'Appetizer' laid the foundation for a more spacey and dynamic aspect of her sound -- displayed on project highlights like "maybe i AM crazy," "Twilight Zone," "Mindfck," among others.
During our New York City trip, we caught up with CLIP about her viral track "SAD B!TCH," 'PERCEPTION,' touring with Rico, linking with Black Kray, Matt Ox and so much more in our latest Our Generation Music exclusive interview.
