She actually trained & learned to play basketball for this movie. Gine Prince-Bythewood didn't want to fake any of the basketball so it's also why you see them actually make every shot. She needed it be authentic & she almost went with another person for the role who could actually play but decided that Sanaa was the better actress to sell the love story.
I don’t understand how people say this is goals for love 😂 that “love” was toxic since they met . Quincy would’ve caught these hands . But “This woman’s work” is my damn song because of this movie .
Before I was married I used to judge men I dated based off of if they liked love and basketball or baby boy. A yes to either movie was a disqualification 😂
MY FAVORITE MOVIE! It's lowkey a problematic fave but I can't help it! The acting, the soundtrack, the story! It all resonates! Loved the parallel relationships we see between Monica & Camille (her mom) & Quincy & Zeke (his dad). Only thing I would change is making Quincy more accountabke for their breakup & how we hurt her & seeing Monica date other men before she got back with Quincy.
Right and she just wanted to fix it even after he did what he did and how was he going to know if she just didn’t tell him but wanted him so badly.. like girl have some self respect.. I never understood why she held on to him for so long and he didn’t even see it until he was about to get married but hell he isn’t a mind reader either.. so, both people were a mess..
Baby boy too. They can no longer play in my house. I was sleep one night and I was half listening to it and I was floored like omg no way is he doing her like this.
I've seen a few movie recap of this movie. And i still Love this movie it reminds me of my high school days as a bballer with two loves and basketball. Those two knuckleheads were the best part of high school. And two of my best coaches. The memories...
I think alot of people don't realize this but Quincy wasn't just upset because his father cheated on his mom he was also upset & reacted the horrible way he did because he literally Idolized his father his dad was like his hero & to find out your hero is not only a liar but he's also a hypocrite it's very much devastating not that I don't agree with what you said I just think people don't really think about it like that
I never understood why his dad just didn’t tell him the truth seeing that aspect of his son idolizing him throughout his whole life but the dad cared more about how he would feel/ see towards him knowing the truth which I didn’t understand cos everyone isn’t perfect and in the life of basketball you are gonna cheat especially if his wife is away from him.. I didn’t get it.
@@shaniaw471 it definitely irks me too! What irks me even more is when people automically assume that he reacted the way he did just because his dad cheated on his mom, like Quincy was not a little boy he was damn near a grown ass man do y'all honestly think this man would ruin his whole life just because his dad cheated on his mom lol people just don't THINK sometimes or dig deeper into the situation they go straight for what seems to be the most obvious explanation which is sad af if you ask me 🤦♀️
I'm only 16 minutes into this video and don't know if you mentioned the part of the movie that bothered me the most... when Monica's mom slapped her for being "disrespectful" (of the mom's duties as a housewife). I think that's where Monica's "me first" attitude towards Quincy stemmed from... she didn't want to put a man first, like her mom (and Quincy's mom) did. And I absolutely agreed with her stance. Even if Monica's dad never cheated on her mom and always supported her (by attending her games)... Monica saw her mom as a servant to her dad, and she didn't want to become a servant to Quincy. Okay, you mentioned this at 17:50.
I do not like the movie anymore but it is a classic lol they really played with us. They really tried to make it one of those “if it’s meant to be, it will be” type of love stories when Monica should’ve just left that man alone 😂😂😂
Fun Fact: Gina Prince-Bythewood the director makes a cameo in the movie. She plays a college opponent of Monica's in the scene in which they are fighting for the ball on the ground.
Hey Ashley huge fan. Love your reviews and commentary. I had a correction Monica wanted to be the first woman in NBA. WNBA was not established yet. That is why after college women had to go overseas to play. When she got back with Q and it was future WNBA was in effect and she was able to have her dream come true and play in the league.
Poor Tyra Banks. Lost her fiancée in a secret late night basketball game. Mind you this was two weeks before their wedding day. Imagine how hard that is to tell yo family and everybody probably already bought their outfits and put in their vacation at work to attend the wedding. Yea Quincy would got jumped
I always thought Pam had a high-pitched voice, sort of kid like when she sings. I love Total. And I always thought that Love and B was some bs. I still liked it. But she practically begged for his attention throughout the whole movie
😂😂 it’s you laughing in the beginning because they way I have never liked the movie and I watched it when I was young and was like ain’t no way imma be with that man 😂😂
Monica said “ I’ve loved you since I was 10 and this shit just won’t go away “ and that’s when they played she was playing all out at first she was winning and then he wanted to win he wasn’t even thinking about the heart part they always had that competition when they played it was parallel to when they first met and I assume first fell in love with each other … I still love the movie lol even through the toxic part 😭😭😭 I might just be toxic
I swear I used to think I was SO weird in school because I didn’t see things the way my peers did. When they’d give their opinion I’d just be quiet & observe smh I knew in middle school Terry was the victim and big momma kept the mess going betweenxt her daughters by not checking them, it was ALWAYS Marlon & Jamie Foxx for me, JC is N’Sync not JT and Quincy was trash! I could go on 😂‼️
Alicia from the Wood. Keysha from Total.. I mean to me she shouldn’t have begged, she should have just let his ass go! What did she mean ?? What did she do or whatever she said.. like what let his ass go! And she should have slapped tf outta him, she just left like girl.. then she cared more than he did and never moved on, holding onto Hope like he was ever going to choose her and looked at her as a friend then going to finally chose her only at the end of the movie. Q was selfish as hell and a narcissist he wanted her to give up her shot to start to babysit him like you alright.. The dad should have just told him the truth like a man but was a coward and cared more about what Q would think of him after finding out. Both people’s dad’s were toxic and selfish and narcissistic and the mom’s just settled for what they were comfortable with and never went after their own dreams and goals.
Technically, Quincy did suspect his dad was cheating. That's why he asked him. His dad said no and acted offended so Quincy believed him until seeing the proof from his mom. I don't think it was about the cheating alone. It was the fact that the man he put on a pedestal and literally modeled his life after is a liar and don't give a shit about his mom and the whole world knows it. And 18 is still a child where it counts so he deserved a little bit of grace
I think this is one of those movies where if you think to deep about it you won't like it. That's the way I feel about The Photograph. I did not like that movie. Well her mother's story was good.
I never saw the whole movie growing up and just watched it full through for the first time 3 weeks ago...trash lol. Great acting, but Q was troubled, manipulative, and narcissistic.
Chiiile this movie finessed us into thinking they had any LOVE in Love & Basketball!
Monica got played every era of her life and career😭
Yep, by not just following her own path and leaving that child love behind cos he sure did..
@@marvaaba3929
Yep. I mean even when they were kids, Quincy been exerting is lil misogyny by pushing her on the ground!
🚩 from day one.
Fun fact: Sanaa Lathan had said she didnt know how to play a lick of basketball before this movie, great acting on her part.
She actually trained & learned to play basketball for this movie. Gine Prince-Bythewood didn't want to fake any of the basketball so it's also why you see them actually make every shot. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Smart women! 😂😂
Sad how all the early movies like Love and basketball and baby boy taught struggle love and tried to act like struggling was a badge of honor
This!
Right! I’m so glad that people have been waking up and we’ve been having so many conversations about healthier relationships!
Yesss. We need to talk about Eves Bayou, Mississippi Damned, and Lackawanna Blues!!!
There's a lot to unpack 😩
Lackawanna blue is something else.
Love and basketball 🏀 is a classic good movie. One of my faves.
The part where she said she was a lesbian 😂 I fell out
This movie is a classic
15:38 “Congratulations on your son getting drafted!” 😂😂😂 airTIGHT, you hear me?? Lol!!

Baby this is a horror film
Baby boy too. They can no longer play in my house. I was sleep one night and I was half listening to it and I was floored like omg no way is he doing her like this.
It really was!💯
Lmfao!! Seriously tho! 😂😂
Lmao! 😂😂😂
Ashley spilling that Lebron tea 🤭
This is one of my TOP 5 movies of all time..I still watch this
15:47 I screamed 🗣️ASH-LEEEEE!! “Congratulations on your SON MAKING THE TEAM!” 😩🤦🏾♀️😂
I've seen a few movie recap of this movie. And i still Love this movie it reminds me of my high school days as a bballer with two loves and basketball. Those two knuckleheads were the best part of high school. And two of my best coaches. The memories...
Definitely here for the Sleepaway Camp review😊
I hope she does all 3 parts!!!

I agree
I literally just said the same thing before seeing your comment! It irks me no one thinks about this.

Okay, you mentioned this at 17:50.
And don't forget The temptations and Five Heartbeats.
Keisha and Omar dated before he and Sanaa. They got back together and never looked back.
Monica went overseas because the WNBA didn't exist yet so when she came back it still wasn't a thing so she had no choice but to get a job.
19:25 Regina Hall's first movie role was in The Best Man (1999). L&B and Scary Movie both came out in 2000.
I do not like the movie anymore but it is a classic lol they really played with us. They really tried to make it one of those “if it’s meant to be, it will be” type of love stories when Monica should’ve just left that man alone 😂😂😂

This was my favorite movie when i was young. Now i see this relationship was toxic. He treated her so bad.
Debbi Morgan Tariq's Big mama on Power. This movie was an eye opener when looked at through older eyes.
I never liked this movie and people told me i was weird 😂😂😂 I just felt like the love story was dumb
Same here 😂

Toxic love = hood classic
Love the reaction
My cousin was in that movie in the end because she was in wnba. 😅 but yes the music is everything. 80s baby
I always thought Pam had a high-pitched voice, sort of kid like when she sings. I love Total. And I always thought that Love and B was some bs. I still liked it. But she practically begged for his attention throughout the whole movie

I'm team my mom all the way too. I love my parent top. I feel that girl. I'm right there with you.
Did y’all know Omar was with Lauryn Hill when she was in Sister Act 2. Ryan Toby mentioned it on R&B Money

And Toni Braxton Mama too
Ouh thanks Ashley!! Childhood movie on deck 🙏🏽💕
I get every other notification of yours except movie corner!!!! I love these so much!!! I used to love this movie bad lol
Finally! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I been waiting on this!!
I think it was a rumor back then that they broke up because Omar had a baby on Sanaa.
I just watched Kings Ransom and Regina Hall was in there as Peaches and her brother was Charlie Murphy named Herb 💀 😂
I spit my food out you going in on Connie Spaulding/Gabrielle Union. She did play the pretty black mean girl
And they said she was that way in real life. Just mean and nasty for no reason
It’s Kima, Keisha y Pam lol 😂
please do a movie corner on Players Club
Quincy was trying to be like his daddy. BET played the mess out of baby boy and loving basketball and anything else by Tyler Perry.
can you do poetic justice??? one of the best movies!
I know Malinda williams from the tv series soul food was with mekhi pheffer from soul food the movie. I remember that
The one boy that was playing with Kyla Pratt was the guy that Hayden from sista. He had that same helmet looking head back then.
I believe Regina was in paid in full
6:40 Aubrey [on The Encore] intentionally rubbed Pam's leg to get a reaction. That was such a weird thing to do for no reason lol
lol i literally just turned it on great movie
I wish this movie was a little bit longer there were so many details that was missing out of it, it just didn't feel like the plot was complete
PAID IN FULL
19:46 Paid in Full she was Ace/Wood Harris GF/BM
nice painting on that wall
