This is the case with a lot of the "bad" winners. The glue eating fanbase thinks if you don't win an episode, you were immediately in the bottom. That's why I like the dusted or busted system that weighs things rather than just a flat win count. A lot of these queens were consistently good through the season (as in lots of high placements with little to none lows). Like when people say Trixie shouldn't have won, it's like... why? Her track record was barely behind Shangela's and Bebe's lol. She did well throughout the season except the Snatch Game. The only one that I couldn't see winning in that top four was Kennedy. There was a weird narrative they tried to push that Trixie wasn't doing well in the first half but she was doing fine if you actually watch the season. Had she been with anyone besides Milk in the Bitchelor, she could've been in the top with Bendela; I think Trixie was better than Kennedy there.

I think another international winner that would make a great addition to the list would be Elektra Bionic from Italia 1. The judges seemed to overlook her all season, didn’t give her any wins, and then homegirl slayed the finale and won the season without any challenge wins, which was genuinely a jaw-dropping moment because at that point winning the season without any challenge wins was entirely unheard of
which is completely weird because she could have got a win or two without too much favouritism tbh. also she was the fittest cast member for the prize (the MAC collab) given that she was the real beauty queen of the season

I think it’s crazy that people really thought Krystal wasn’t going to win or didn’t deserve to. Exhibit A) She ATE every runway. Exhibit B) She murdered every Lipsync. Exhibit C) Even if she wasn’t the funniest or most memorable in the challenges, personality wise, she was much more memorable than Ella was. Most of the time if it wasn’t a challenge, Ella didn’t have much to give. And as far as track record is concerned, it’s pretty much agreed that she shouldn’t have won the second episode, was robbed a win in episode 3, and the Ball challenge. And had the final challenge been for a badge, she would’ve had 4 wins as well.
I fully expected Ella based on only the final few episodes. I thought this was a classic pulling up from the back story. I 100% thought they’d give it to her after a lukewarm start and then a great finish… and then that “Hey sis it’s Xmas” performance happened. Ella was not present, she looked sad and distracted. The problem with a couple of these is that modern drag race doesn’t give wins out to the queens who dominate the season, probably so it doesn’t seem so obvious. Willow and Yvie did well in almost every challenge and runway, which is why the audience was rooting for them to win.
Honestly looking back it felt like the makeover challenges bottom 2 was in all reality Rita and Scarlett, I think because the lip sync song is right up scarlets alley, and they didn’t want to risk Rita possibly losing a lip sync, because Rita was the productions favorite, and they sacrificed lemon in the process. But there were times where I felt Bobo should have won as opposed to who actually did. While Priyanka had a better verse than her on sorry not sorry, she didn’t actually do the challenge itself well. Ohhh Pythia hurt me. I really wanted her to win but I also didn't want Icesis to lose. I know this is out of topic, but Canada Season 2 finale's Queen of the North rendition was literal perfection. I still listen to that song to this day. Pythia's verses for that song was intellectual genius. And the fact that she called herself a "Grecian goddess" in the song then came out as a Greek Statue in her finale look, I was GOOPED. That song just showed every finale's character through and through. Icesis started the song in a way that actually made the song better. She told us she's the fashion queen and the winner, as she's CHALLENGING THE CURRENT QUEEN OF THE NORTH in her verse (to this day, I still listen to "COME ON, BROOKE!!" as "COME ON, BRUH!!" as the switch from feminine to masculine like Rosé's bit in the final original "Lucky", Kendall's the modern sharp one, and Pythia was the kooky intellectual. I cannot rave enough about this song.
The trick to crowning a controversial winner is doing. A great job of editing the finale. It doesn’t happen too often, but sometimes drag race slays it
I think the first 11th hour win probably was Violet. The rumour has been for around for years that Ginger had already had hereses name on the cheque before the live final, but the audience was absolutely hating on Ginger by the end of season 7, especially after the Top 4 speeches that went horribly wrong for Ginger. I think the level of dislike Ginger had suprised the Producers and Ru. And thus Ru and the Producers blinked and changed their decision at the very last moment and gave it to Violet who was the only legitimate other option.

I believe Gigi was disqualified because of violating Covid rules and competition rules. But they didn’t want to disqualify a second queen in the same season

the only surprise winning was Sasha. Krystal was literally told she was born to do drag by Rupaul. she was 100% winning that season. so was Willow - everyone loved her, including Ru. Pythia didn't know how to perform, so she lost her chance there. etc etc.

Out of the final 3 Jaida deserved that win so much because even though Gigi was strong at the beginning and like the very last challenge, she struggled in between then, however Jaida was consistent
The only win in this list that was at all a surprise to me was Sasha and that was only because of the change of format. Every other win was pretty clearly telegraphed during editing as being likely or being possible and a few of these people were even early ringers that I knew would win a few episodes in.
I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but the reasoning for Gigi to have been secretly snubbed from the crown is because the zoom finale called for the queens to perform in their living rooms, yet she used a set for her Take On Me video. I can see how that could be interpreted as an actual breaking of the rules, so, we don’t know if she was truly snubbed but she did break the rules
They were originally going to disqualify Gigi for this, but due to Shitty pie, they would be down half their top 4, so they kept Gigi and crowned Jaida
The ironic thing is that several from this list actually got signs a lot earlier in the season that production, or Ru specifically, liked them a lot and so long as they made it to the finale without being clearly the worst, they were going to win even if they weren't statistically the strongest.
I like Trixie and Sasha’s wins so much because it felt like drag race was actually being FAIR. They both did well during the season but were overlooked in favour of other contestants. It wasn’t until the finale that things fell into place and they were able to rightfully win. I know was Ru was definitely pissed after crowning both of them because the plan didn’t work.
I agree, I just didn’t really include many international seasons here since I don’t feel like I’ve watched them enough to talk about them. I do have Philippines videos planned for the future though
As someone who knows the drag relationships in the PH, PPN was already picked/favored to win. Pao and PPN are super close friends outside of the series and have even done projects together for years. They even set up her win. PPN impersonates Regine for a living and she was assigned that singer for a reason. Production has chosen her to win and she did. Rumors are that they did not expect Marina to be that great and only wanted her and Xilhouette for drama. Her win clearly doesn’t fall into the eleventh hour category.
PPN was like a side character or forgettable, i barely remember her. But I think she rightfully ate that finale lipsync fair and square, they both did great.
The only wins that have ever gagged me were when KSL won AS6 instead of Ra’Jah, Krystal Versace winning over Ella and Elektra Bionic winning over Farida Kant. Especially because Ra’Jah’s rudemption on AS6 was AMAZING and she did so great on the season. Krystal Versace’s track record and fan vote was the worst out of the Top 3 so everyone was expecting Ella to win cause she had the best track record and the majority of the fan votes. And Farida was so iconic on her season that her placing runner up to someone that had ZERO challenge wins was so unexpected.
Precious Paula Nicole would make it to this is too from Drag race Philippines season 1. Everyone thought Marina Summers would win the title but PPN pulled it off in lipsync for the crown.
I dont know why people were shocked by Krystal winning season 3. Yes she had the least amounts of wins and was saved by production many times, but she was absolut unique and her level of polish at just 19 years old was incredable. I was very happy when she won and it was the win I was expecting

Honestly I think that Sasha should've been about equal with Shea in overall track record. The only time Sasha was in the bottom 3 was pretty iffy and she could have gone the whole season without placing below safe, and I feel like she could've also gotten higher placements in all of their design challenges (sidekick challenge, Makeover, Gayest Ball)

Canada season 3 is another one. I never would have guessed Giselle Lullaby winning. Fiercalicious was robbed by not even being able to be in the top 2 after dominating the season. The Rumix they got was HORRIBLE. That song was literally sabotage. Not a single person in the finale had a good verse because the song itself was hot garbage. Kind of felt like AS3 where the top 2 wasn't right. Like one felt right but the other didn't at all, so the one who should've been there kind of won by default but if the other front runner had gotten to be in the top 2, it may have gone differently.

Gigi lost because drag race isn’t just a competition. the winner represents a huge franchise the millions of dollars thousands of people and corporations that produce the show. 2020 was an extreme political year with Trump in office and the election coming up, Gigi during a politically themed challenged when asks by Ru basically said she doesn’t really care about politics. it came off very privileged white girl who just couldn’t care less. They aren’t gonna put that type of person as the face of the franchise. besides that Gigi was very clearly the strongest. she won all 4 iconic challenges, the rusical the ball snatch game and the final verse challenge without ever being in the bottom.

Krystal was literally told she was born to do drag by Rupaul. she was 100% winning that season. so was Willow - everyone loved her, including Ru. Pythia didn't know how to perform, so she lost her chance there. etc etc.

Gigi was never disqualified, she went against productions rules that had been set for the set up of the at home finale. They’re THREATENED to disqualify her is she did not reshoot at her home instead of a studio. It’s not a rumor

Personally i think it just takes away how good jaida was that season. Almost like they're trying to hate Gigi but by doing so saying jaida only won because the "real winner" was disqualified. Again ive only seen a few twinks on reddit say that never a queen or anyone on production. Just that she was made to reshoot her video because it was done in a studio.
Out of the final 3 Jaida deserved that win so much because even though Gigi was strong at the beginning and like the very last challenge, she struggled in between then, however Jaida was consistent

The only win in this list that was at all a surprise to me was Sasha and that was only because of the change of format. Every other win was pretty clearly telegraphed during editing as being likely or being possible and a few of these people were even early ringers that I knew would win a few episodes in.

I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but the reasoning for Gigi to have been secretly snubbed from the crown is because the zoom finale called for the queens to perform in their living rooms, yet she used a set for her Take On Me video. I can see how that could be interpreted as an actual breaking of the rules, so, we don’t know if she was truly snubbed but she did break the rules

As a RPDR stan, I'm rethinking how winners are picked after watching this.
The ironic thing is that several from this list actually got signs a lot earlier in the season that production, or Ru specifically, liked them a lot and so long as they made it to the finale without being clearly the worst, they were going to win even if they weren't statistically the strongest.

I like Trixie and Sasha’s wins so much because it felt like drag race was actually being FAIR. They both did well during the season but were overlooked in favour of other contestants. It wasn’t until the finale that things fell into place and they were able to rightfully win. I know was Ru was definitely pissed after crowning both of them because the plan didn’t work.

As someone who knows the drag relationships in the PH, PPN was already picked/favored to win. Pao and PPN are super close friends outside of the series and have even done projects together for years. They even set up her win. PPN impersonates Regine for a living and she was assigned that singer for a reason. Production has chosen her to win and she did. Rumors are that they did not expect Marina to be that great and only wanted her and Xilhouette for drama. Her win clearly doesn’t fall into the eleventh hour category.
PPN was like a side character or forgettable, i barely remember her. But I think she rightfully ate that finale lipsync fair and square, they both did great.
AS6 Should’ve been Rajahs and I’ll die on that hill
The only wins that have ever gagged me were when KSL won AS6 instead of Ra’Jah, Krystal Versace winning over Ella and Elektra Bionic winning over Farida Kant.
Especially because Ra’Jah’s rudemption on AS6 was AMAZING and she did so great on the season. Krystal Versace’s track record and fan vote was the worst out of the Top 3 so everyone was expecting Ella to win cause she had the best track record and the majority of the fan votes. And Farida was so iconic on her season that her placing runner up to someone that had ZERO challenge wins was so unexpected.

Honestly I think that Sasha should've been about equal with Shea in overall track record. The only time Sasha was in the bottom 3 was pretty iffy and she could have gone the whole season without placing below safe, and I feel like she could've also gotten higher placements in all of their design challenges (sidekick challenge, Makeover, Gayest Ball)
Just a little advice for future videos maybe try being a little bit more away from the microphone I think it’s just picking up a little bit too much mouth noises and the audio is a bit loud not trying to be a hater just genuine constructive criticism for future videos other than that good video keep it up

I disagree that Jaida wasn't winning until the final lipsync. Gigi shined in the beginning while Jaida continued to grow throughout. You forget Gigi had that last win and Jaida was really the only person to complete the finale in the way production described soooo
Canada season 3 is another one. I never would have guessed Giselle Lullaby winning. Fiercalicious was robbed by not even being able to be in the top 2 after dominating the season. The Rumix they got was HORRIBLE. That song was literally sabotage. Not a single person in the finale had a good verse because the song itself was hot garbage.
Kind of felt like AS3 where the top 2 wasn't right. Like one felt right but the other didn't at all, so the one who should've been there kind of won by default but if the other front runner had gotten to be in the top 2, it may have gone differently.
The song was brutal. I listened to it once in preparation for a video and once when the episode aired. Never again

We’ll never know… Brooke was never meant to win coz she was meant to be a host… Jaida’s win, well that was the only choice due to the political climate in 2020… Giselle’s win was good for the brand to celebrate the French speaking Canadian community… but much love to all Kweens!

Gigi lost because drag race isn’t just a competition. the winner represents a huge franchise the millions of dollars thousands of people and corporations that produce the show. 2020 was an extreme political year with Trump in office and the election coming up, Gigi during a politically themed challenged when asks by Ru basically said she doesn’t really care about politics. it came off very privileged white girl who just couldn’t care less. They aren’t gonna put that type of person as the face of the franchise. besides that Gigi was very clearly the strongest. she won all 4 iconic challenges, the rusical the ball snatch game and the final verse challenge without ever being in the bottom.
