Hunting dogs are awesome and so much fun. I'm on my 3rd Lab who is 9 months old and currently at the trainers in Mississippi for a couple more months. I will be running her in HRC and AKC hunt tests as well as hunting with her like my previous black lab. They are an amazing part of the family. I really related to your feeling about sending them away for training for whatever period is needed to get them to the level you desire. You miss them terribly! But, when you experience the results of good training, it's well worth it! These dogs are athletes and like any good athlete, good training is a must. Hope Riggs is still hunting 'em up and doing well. 🙂
I think labrador retriever should do this bird fetching game. The labs fur coat is more mud friendly. Goldies have more prettier fur and should be mud free..

Exactly.. don't kill birds.. birds are our spiritual guide.😥 When my mom was actively dying, she told me one of her spiritual journeys, she saw a bird and it landed in her hand. A few days after a beautiful white bird fell in our backyard and fetch by our Golden retriever unharmed. The dog and the bird were friends. I bring it to my mom as she said she wanted to see the bird. My mom affirmed that it was the very same bird that she saw in her spiritual journey.. my mom said that bird will not live long. We caged the bird and a few days after , the bird vanished. I was searching for the bird. It was supposedly in the cage but it's gone.
How cold does it get down there when you work your dogs? I just got my first golden. I'm used to huskies and labs...had a chow chow. How does the cold tolerance compare? She's been coming to work.....I'm just trying to pay attention.
I taught my own dog, first dog I’ve ever had when he retrieved his first duck I swear I screamed like a little girl in a candy shop for him
