- It's the furthest Italian car from a Ferrari, and according to Jason, just as fun.

"What year is it?" ,
"YES!"
I loved it.
As an Italian, I can assure this is the average English skill out here. I have to point out though, I believe they misheard.
Remember, yes is always a good answer.
I'm italian and i assure you that an Ape Car has nothing to compare with a Reliant Robin. This is a pure, economic, reliable, funny car/motorcycle/van, perfect for carrying loads. Yes it's very slow (40 km/h maybe), but only because it is not made to go fast. i can assure you that i saw it bring 12-13 people on the cabinet without the minum problem or hint of fatigue.
It's simply brilliant.
And that's why in Italy we have many.
Reliant robin is brilliant too
I also have Piaggio Ape. Can run 65km/h on highway. Multipurpose vehicle, saves more gas that driving 4cyl cars and it can carry more stuff on flatbed.
caps lock is not loud enough to approximate how the guy says ITALIAN STYLE at the end
+Raphael Orlove "What year is it?"
"YES!"
+Raphael Orlove Hahaha, also the year is 71 not 77
+Raphael Orlove HAHA! How about *ITALIAN STYLE*!!!!
+Raphael Orlove Wow Raphael. Great moves. Keep it up. Proud of you.
People actually race these things. My faith in humanity is now restored.
find on google "piaggio ape TUNING"
appelpower1 I want to see one of these square off against an ae86
that's just fucking funny.
Is there anything that moves (and can be controlled) that people don't race?
Can't lie. Making seat covers out of blue jeans is fucking genius.
I'm collecting old jeans to make chair covers. A lot of people throw couches away because the upholstering has gone bad (think of leather) but some have perfectly fine filling (probably they were very expensive at some point) so my idea is to just redo those with a buch of old jeans.
It`s not that easy ,buth good luck ! If yo going into antiks -cars ,you have to know howe to do it to get it right .I am retired pensioner nowe adays !
I generally figure stuff out by doing it by experimentation and googling. Being an artist helps, it's my way into doing anything I fancy. ;)
*****
It's in the family jeans.
Dear god that sound.
+jhowe427 its a leaf blower
+ilikepie1974 Perhaps literally, given that it's just a little 2-stroke jobbie. They're not made for speed, just for tugging half a ton of potatoes five miles along the road somewhat faster than you could manage it by hand :D (and it's a step up from those put-put "2 wheel tractor" devices that work as a hand-steered self-propelled plough out in the field, then can have the blades taken off and a trailer hooked up instead to move stuff along at jogging pace ... the 50cc Ape can hit 40+ km/h on the flat when unladen after all... maybe as much as 80 for the hefty 220cc version...)
Sort of like how you can make a go-kart with a lawnmower engine, and a ride-on mower bridges the gap in a more official capacity. You get a surprising amount of power out of a leafblower engine, or that of a ride-on mower. Don't let the speed mislead you, merely because it's geared real low doesn't mean it hasn't got any muscle. The one my dad used to have put out more power than my bike, but the latter can nudge 70mph whilst the former was tapped out somewhere south of 10mph...I do think he never got out of first or maybe second gear, though, and gassed it pretty hard. It was literally a quick 5-minute runaround. Cruising, it'd be a fair bit quieter. You don't hammer utility vehicles that hard if you want them to last, anyway. As little power and speed as you can reasonably get away with is key.
Uh ... ok ... that's mildly interesting, but why?
+jhowe427 Italy's got fuckin balls...making 1-cylinder leaf blower reliant robin minitrucks that last for WAY too fucking long and haul more than they should...and on that note, they translate to "bee" so nicely in the sense that they do said things so nicely when they simply should not be able to.
***** Tires are just like FUCKING MOVE and the one piston is like
I...T...Y...N...
.M..R....I...G
Lmao
-What year is this?
-*Y E S !*
Alberto Combi lmao
This small trucks are used in Belgrade, Serbia by utility company. They are great because they are small and yet you can drive them in narrowest of streets, down sidewalks and parks for cleaning junk and leafs.
+Mladen Milić There are 4-wheeled equivalents being used here in the UK now as well, I think they even have a Piaggio badge on though I could be wrong. Certainly based on some kind of European microcar. Even have a badge on the back saying they're limited to 45mph (70~75km/h) which strikes me as something I once heard of certain microcars / 3-wheel trucks being limited to. Box vans rather than flatbed but otherwise a similar idea, something small, cheap, and super economical that can be parked almost anywhere and fit down narrow alleyways in order to carry out a variety of low level maintenance jobs around the city from a central council-run base. Probably be converted to electric power before too long, but they seem to be using lawnmower engines at the moment from the exhaust sound.
Never goes more than 30 miles from the home base, never covers more than maybe 100 miles in a day, and rarely goes on roads with a speed limit higher than 50mph (80km/h) for any significant distance (mainly 20-30mph instead), so no need to make it fast, or give it sporty handling, or even a massive load capacity...
My cousin in Sicily has one of these! They make perfect sense in ancient Italian villages with narrow alleys and few roads suitable for modern traffic. I found this out the hard way when I took my father back to the old Sicilian village where he was born last summer. At the airport, I told the rent-a-car people I needed a vehicle with an automatic. They gave me an SUV! Let's just say I ended up using reverse gear very frequently while in his village...
I am Italian, I can tell you that the bee is a small vehicle but with a good load capacity and very cheap. it is still widely used in the countryside today. I have the same one, but mine is the version with the handlebar of the bike and I feel very comfortable
Thanks for that! Impromptu videos are some of the best. Great little 3 wheelers!
Should have tested the smaller 50cc version as it is the most typical/iconic. I've gotten a 135cc cylinder on mine and it is a blast to drive around (can getting worryingly close to tipping over). (it only weighs 230kg)
It also uses a handlebar as opposed to a steering wheel. It's basically a 3 wheel Vespa (shares the engine, handlebars, front wheel, etc.) with a flatbed.
+Frontality i have one to, they are pretty fun to drive :D. mine broke tho sow i replaced the crankshaft with a cnc turned straight shaft and put a 200cc 5hp b&S engine on it that revs to about 5500rpm. i thought the original two stroke engine made more revs than that sow i increased the rpm with a belt. its now way to fast, almost hits 25km/h in first gear... It still looks original from the inside and all the controls work like they used to before. it's nice but not ideal for my utility purposes i use the ape for.
+Frontality ... what'll she do, mister?
This series just keeps getting better!
They make these in 50cc. They are exactly as slow as you'd think.
Mine does 60 km/h
This was the smaller version, for so called Ape 50.
I feel like I'm listening to this video through a 1980s brick cell phone...
DEAR LORD THESE DOGS
+Raphael Orlove plese
+Raphael Orlove give me the dogs
Wuf
This is awesome, and those dogs are awesome!
another wonderful episode
thanks
Please show the engine next time.
+mi lu Their camera probably didn't have a macro function.
+mi lu it has the same engine as the Vespa..
+mi lu www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=piaggio+ape+engine+pics&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
The usual one has a moped steering wheel, even more insane
fucking love the Ape.. nobody realises how fun and functional that thing is
0:44 are those mixtures of a dog and a sheep?
Whatever it is, I need it.
Maremma sheep dog :)
2:38 *ITALIAN STYLE* hahaha
😂😂😂😂😂
Makes me cringe when I see him driving through that field that is just starting to sprout, surely they didn't intend for Jason to do that since it will surely damage whatever crop that was.
Sprouting crops are robust, Karen.
gotta love the italians. those dogs were beautiful!!
And since you don't need a license to drive these in Italy, they are everywhere. Old people getting their licenses revoked usually have Apes for example.
Sounds like a gawd damn leaf blower!
It basically has the same kind of engine.
Well, you didn't put up the url, at least in the description (for us mobile users)
+tmanepic www.cormezzano.it
+tmanepic
Just read the description, it's there.
The original ones had a motorbike handlebar thing. In the 90s it was also powered by a diesel engine. Was also available as a tipper.
Next you're going to try Daihatsu Midget, the Japanese Piaggio Ape.
reliant robin too
Piaggio APE is a classic in Portugal too :D it's just like a Ford F-150 with a superbike engine (not)
also, poochie woochie doggie woogiez!
I’d love to have one of these, and I’m an F150 guy! I have 3 f150s currently, and had 2 more in the past. Love this guys channel, I’m subscribed. I’ve been wanting to build something really light so I can use a spare 5 speed peerless manual transmission I have with another spare engine I have somewhere between 8-19 horse. I have several older riding mowers I need to get rid off to Rob parts. Something to run around on the farm at slower speeds and carry supplies and hardware, and nimble.
no way it is more fun than it looks, it looks like a totally great time.
The piaggio ape is also a pretty popular commercial vechile in India . However , they look more like a auto rickshaw than this😅
Looks like a front with the front engine compartment cut off lol... Looks a hell of a lot steadier than most 3 wheel vehicles though that's for sure. I'd like one seems economical and useful lol.
In 2006, I was in Bolzano, Italy with family friends. I was on foot and my friends had headed to the train station while I stayed behind to take some pictures. To make up lost time, I stuck out my thumb and was picked up by a local farmer in one of these. He spoke no English, and I have no Italian, but he gave me a ride to the train station. The ride was about like this video. Fun.
I love these things!
I am 13 and i have one already. It goes about 60 km/h with a 50cc engine and at 14 i will be able to drive on the road.
Funny thing about the Ape is that it shares its engine with Vespa. Now, that wouldn't mean much, but this also mean that all those juicy afermarket engnes designed for the Vespa fit in the Ape. This includes the FALC 180 engine, which is a 180cc which is supposed to replace the stock engine in the 50cc Vespas.
Or you could just butcher an Ape and fit it with an Alfa V6. Your choice.
2019 anyone?
I'm Italian and i can guarantee that people around here use it for everything. They climb the fucking alps with those
You see these daily in the countryside all over Italy. And I laughed so much at the F150 comparison in the title cause it's true
I love this can you drive a Trabant please?
Very nice! I like!
Where else can you find reviews of cars like this :'D
Jean seat is pretty legit, surely that thing could do with a tuned pipe though lol...
In China still a LOT of these 3 wheeled little vehicles (probably copies) are being used in the small cities/countryside. As taxi or as lorry they can carry a bunch of people or a very BIG load.
johnsamu MALAYALLAM
Gotta love the Goldens.
Were not goldens! Pastore maremmano.
This was my favorite car at Cruisin’USA game
Anyone know what kind of mileage this would get if used in a city type setting? This would be ideal for a small landscape type business.
This is actually awesome to drive in the field or vineyard
Your passion for sausage is immeasurable.
This dude's sarcasm pissed me off.
"What year is it?"
"YES!"
That dudes fly is open! lol
Wtf did you record with?
I never realized Borat had an Italian accent.
Reminds me of those little micro trucks you often see in Japan.
Those dogs are awesome!
in the UK we had the Reliant Ant :)
Where is the link and name of their cheese shop :)
+TechBurnout its at the bottom of the article on jalopnik
At the end you can hear an Italian yelling so that Jason can understand his English better. Because, it just works.
What year is this? YES!!!
that leaf blower sound 😂check out a daihatsu with a motorcycle engine..
vival.italia! good people, great food!
I used to drive an older, '70s model in Israel around the bananna fields of a kibbutz, to maintain the irrigation system.
Aaron Feldman The Germans designed and built a vehicle much like this one right after WW2
From 1938 on you could buy the Goliath FW200/400, but it was a lot bigger than the Ape. After that there was the GD750 and from 1955-61 they sold the Goliath Goli. All of those were threewheelers, but especially the latter was huge compared to the Ape...
Jean upholstered seat would be pretty cool in a ratrod.
they are used all over europe actually.
I've always wondered how the front wheel steers
The audio...say goodbye to production quality?
+TheAwkwardBanana It looks like iPhone footage...
+computiNATEor an IPhone 3G maybe.
+Terry Dolan nah iPhone 3G couldn't even record video
If you didn't notice, they kinda didn't plan on driving it, they just kind of stumbled upon it and they let him drive it. If there was some kind of actual planning, they obviously would've set up microphones and camera mounts...
+Se7enAte That's how bad the footage was tbh
More interested in the doggos
I have the exact same chunky Chinese dotmatrix display solar powered watch like Jason :)
Back in 1980s in USSR there were three wheeled "cargo bikes" (with no cabin) named "Муравей" (Russian for "Ant"), I guess calling those vehicles after social insects who work with no rest is sort of an international tradition.
Ape is massively popular in India. It's everywhere.
Does the Meat and cheese store in Italy ship to the states?
i went back 3 months in videos and 6 years in camera tech
My cousin is disabled, when hecwas teenager he drove an ape cross. Smaller 50cc little bugger, he popped wheelies on that thing.
I want get one here in Quebec province and is it allowed to drive one here?
When are you going to do a Velorex?
my local council use ape's its amazing how much weight those little buggers can carry
you dont need a drivers licence with this one.... but as price, new.....it.s too expensive. can get two small good cars(used) almost for the money.
Unluckily nowadays you need a Licence to drive any Ape here in Italy
The one Jason is driving, being a 150TM, you need like an A2 motorcycle licence, while with the smallest version, the Ape 50 (with 50cc engine) you need a Moped Licence
Hey I thought I saw some of those in Cuba!
these things are being used in india to ferry people and loads since the 60s, they are indestructable.
Someone made one of these things fly, just search "ape Piaggio volante"
lol one person in my village had one of these since he had no drivers licence
Man, those dogs... I want to have a dog like those!
Am I the only one who thinks those dogs are extremely cute?
Nice driving on their crops there. You ruined that nice family's production for that year. 😉
I invite you to come to Mexico and drive a Hyundai Atos, I'll be waiting for your answer!
Awesome.
comparing that to an f150 is like comparing a prius to a ferarri
The cheese and Meat link is not in the description!
www.cormezzano.it/
+Shay Lockie Thanks for posting that, although I really doubt they can ship to the US.
+Jeff DeWitt can still try.

+Jeff DeWitt oh, and this part "Because of the easy deterioration of the product, the meat
is sold only directly in our store."
That....motor....is....about....to....blow....freakin....up!
Strong quality
Do the vespa!
Jason, do a polish Tarpan!
was the sound recorded with a pencil?
Did he say just one cylinder in the engine? Would be extremely light on petrol consumption? One tank would get you three times around Italy!(might be stretching it a bit, but you get the picture!)
Neil Forbes it is a 2 stroke engine
I am disappointed that they didn't supply Italian sub-titles for ambience while watching this video...
whats up with the audio quality?
