- Full R42 RFW footage along the Jamaica line from Broad Street to Jamaica Center - Parsons/Archer. I switched trains at Broadway Junction because the first train I was on was a short turn that terminated at Broadway Junction.

Thank you so much, for showing this video with each station the train came into.. This video, was a trip thru memories for me, as I came from Brooklyn, Crescent Street station, went Blessed Sacrament Church when I was a kid, we moved to Forest Hills, and finally out to Springfield Gardens, but taken the Jamaica train was a favorite of my youth. I wonder if Crescent street still waves like it did when I was a kid? I shall subscribe to your channel to see more of your work in the future.
Still love the screech made by the wheels on those sharp turns.
The third rail on the NYC subway is over-runing, a paddle on the wheelset of the train sticks out to the side and presses down on the rail. The cover is sufficiently higher enough of the third rail to provide clearance for the paddle.
The running rails serve as the negative return on the NYC Subway.
I'm from Connecticut but my dad was born in south Bronx. The legacy of knowledge he left me concerning NY subways is enhanced by videos like this. Your captions are "frosting on the cake" and very much appreciated; sincere thanks!
Thanks for posting this. This really brought back some memories for me.
Yup. Some stations with heavy ridership (Like Woodhaven Boulevard) have both J and Z trains stop at them too.
That whole station sways when trains come in. The R160s are even heavier than earlier subway trains, which makes the effect pretty noticeable.
After WW 2 started, his morning hours was filled with putting wiring into conduits aboard US Navy Destroyer Escorts, being built in New Jersey, driving the trolley on the same line under El station at Crescent Street, and working nights, part time in the Bronx at the A&P Warehouse, he slept like a log on weekends, Gee, why! I sure wish I had his stamina and energy. Thank you for resonding to my question. I miss that station more than anything else in NYC!
There no subway's where I live now in SW Iowa, just BNSF, UP, CSX, NS & CN trains only. Thank you again for showing this video.
Excellent!
Yeah they sent it to 111th Street to lay up. I took a video of it leaving to go to 111th, the link is in the description.
There was an R42 right behind this one that was laid up on the tail northernmost tail track east of the station.
Avec des rails non soudés,sur une voie non ballastée,le bruit doit être infernal pour les riverains.Belle vidéo et salutations de France.
It's funny how some things change and other things remain the same. My Dad, used to work his fanny off when he was a young man, back in the late 30's, putting wiring into conduits aboard US Destroyers under construction at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, in the early morning hours, and in the early afternoon, he drive a trolley, beneath that station. I remember asking him, what was it like back then, he said, "it swayed, and creaked, even over the roar of the trolley's sounds!"
Yep those R42s make really nice flange noises on curves with flange guards.
Awesome vid, I see they don't use the wheel detectors entering and leaving chambers Street anymore and have replaced it with a slow timer. At 50:16 did they send the rain to the layup? Also good job with the captions in the video.
A blue light signifies a telephone. Telephones are rarely used in the NYC Subway today because of the use of radios, but the system is still kept functional.
Cool video!
I'm curious, id like to learn a bit more bout the skip stop on this line, ive seen the J skip stop and then the Z skip stop so, lets see if im correct on this, wutever stops are being skipped by the J the Zs stop at those stations and vise versa?
Great vid! Surprised you can stay on a train that long.
Nice vid!
Was Chamber Street on the right side an abandon station
What do all the blue lights mean? Do they signal station limits?
Wait at an island platform station on the J/Z lines (Like Canal Street) during rush hours (when the Z is running) and you are guaranteed to catch an R42 within 40 minutes.
Damn the J/z needs a total revamp, I would research a full underground replacement and have the Nassau line fully renovated. Same with Myrtle, sucks we may never see that in our generation
Then i love guard rails :)) I really love the flange noise lol,
fottage from an r32 or r42?
Before the train enters every station, there are these huge green box like structures, what are they?
Those are used for various purposes such as electrical rooms and storage.
Okay, I see! I love your videos, I am totally obsessed with NY, especially the transit system! Your videos give me life! Thank you!
It's an unused platform. Chambers Street has a lot of redundant features.
Simply put, not enough battery/memory at the moment to do that. As it is, I almost ran out of power from start to finish.
Great video. Too bad they had removed the express trackage in some of the stations:(
If one really wanted to ride an R42 where would u look?
Here's some more:
41:30 LIRR Rockaway Branch (abandoned)
44:45 LIRR Montauk Branch
41:30 44:45
The underground stations on the J/Z need some MAJOR renovations
It's a bit difficult, but worth it considering that this view will be gone in 4 years.
why is it slow when it crosses the bridge? Isn't that a long, straight path?
It's probably because this train is old.
The timer slows it down to prevent collisions that happened years before.
Don't forget, the M Train might have been in front of that train as well.
@34:30-36:50 those curves sounded really really nice
myslalem ze w polsce pociagi wolno jezdza a tu na jamajce jeszcze gorzej!
I thought the trains in Poland not Save in every and here in Jamaica even worse!
JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I really hate slow trains. -.-
