- First water test of the Holley Sniper EFI on the Pleasure Craft Marine (PCM) 454 powered 1991 Barefoot Nautique. This was a fresh engine rebuild along with install of the Sniper system. Accompanying the package is the Hyperspark Ignition for Sniper EFI. The fuel system was taken care of by a Fuel Control Cell by PCM with high pressure fuel lines made by Snake Pit Customs (thanks Damon). Straight forward install but you need to read the instructions. Really read ALL the instructions it helps avoid silliness but Holley can help with diagnosing problems.
The performance met what we were hoping for with the fuel injection. The hard data numbers did not make sense from the GPS speedo. With the following setup the speed should have been 50 mph on the dot.
Acme 644 prop 13.25x16
1.26:1 gear reduction.
With this ratio every 1000 rpms = 10 mph. The 55.8mph seems out of place at only 5000 rpms and not 5600 rpms.
More fine tuning will reveal the details.
Any interest in these types videos? Should we take more time capturing content like this? Tell us what you think. Mark @ N3
I have been kicking around the idea of doing the sniper install on my Celebrity 190 BR. So far yours is the only video I've found of a marine application. I would like to see a follow-up on this after you get some hrs on it!
We are headed to Florida with it next week to foot for a couple days. I will try and get appropriate content.
@@n3boatworks how did it go?
@@Slowcarfast2980 It went extremely well. I did not gather any usable footage regarding a performance data. With that said I have a couple more projects to put sniper on.
@@n3boatworks awesome! Thanks for the update. I think I'm going to put one on my boat. I was hesitant because I hadn't heard from anyone who has actually done one until now, so again thanks!
@@Slowcarfast2980 How did your install go? Are you pleased with the result?
Interesting tuneup.
Wow that's quick. Not as fast as I'd thought, so you must be running a power prop. My much heavier boat with a 305 will do 50mph with no weight on board, and 47mph with 5 people on board. Having lots of carb problems with mine though, which is why I'm here.
K&N makes a USGA air filter/ spark arrestor. That oem spark arrestor on your new TB unit is not efficient and not a filter.
Got a link to the kit .. how did you do the 02 how long they last
Were you able to power the fuel control cell from the relay in Holley harness?
I'm trying to do this right now. Where can I get the O2 adapter plate. That's been what is holding me up
Affordable Fuel Injection - 248-393-1621 Tell them N3 Boatworks sent you.
@@n3boatworks thank you
I'll be doing same soon, sounds strong. Takes forever for 454 to get heat in it vs 351. Interesting my 91 BFN motor brace is black I think. Edlebrock oval port intake on peanut port heads....hmmm.
This one has aluminum edlebrock 110cc heads to help use the intake. The braces came both ways in 1991 and I can’t tell the reasoning behind it. This boat is 13075 and it’s silver. We have another BFN 13095 and it’s black. It would be interesting to see the change over in serial numbers.
Also we had a stuck tstat. We needed up with a 170 deg thermostat and it works really well for the Sniper system.
The speed and rpm makes sense now, you can lower the closed loop temperature # will help it go into self learning earlier asked them about that key feature instead of tuning time on laptop.
Hi did you need to put an 02 sensor in the exhaust system
You can see O2 plate on the closet exhaust manifold at :06
i was trying to find out fuel comsumption , gallons per hour, and mgp?
Runs like a top. I thought it would be faster. Not a dig but that's a lot of motor.
Hello how do yo put the oxigen sensor can you help me please ?
Where did you put the o2 sensor
There is a spacer in the exhaust manifold at the elbow. Company in Michigan sells them.
Where did you put the O2 sensor? Are younot running water injection on your exhaust?
We have an aluminum O2 plate that sandwiches in between the exhaust elbow and manifold. Pretty easy and straightforward.
@@n3boatworks Awesome! I saw FAST uses that for their Marine version. Thanks for the response.
hi, thinking of doing this, how and where did you install the O2 sensor, I have a ford 427 FE with fresh cooling
thanks
You can buy or make a riser to go in between the exhaust manifold and the elbow. At 0:50 in the video on the right side you can see the silver riser between the black manifold and elbow, with the O2 sensor plugged into it.
Can you bringh me some photo from de plate of the oxigen sensor please ? 0:50
Any cam change to accomodate the heads and intake?
Looks like it's flying 😁
We did keep the stock cam because it is a reverse rotation marine engine. A different cam would really wake it up.
How is the sniper EFI set up holding out? Is the owner happy with reliability and have any major problems been encountered since the installation?
Do y’all sell the kit? And do I need to buy the sniper distributor and module or can I just buy the (Holley Sniper EFI Self-Tuning Fuel Injection Systems 550-511K) kit for my 1987 barefoot natique with a Chevy 502
We don’t sell the kits but the marine version is available on Holley.com You don’t need the distributor but it does allow the tuning control more on the engine. We can sell the O2 sensor plate, fuel control cell, and fuel tank fuel return line sender unit. Call Adam 317-845-9253 for pricing.
Hi, how does this run a year later? Lots of bad reviews and horror stories on the holley sniper
Any chance you'd share the sniper kit part number or link?
Nice. Any mapping info?
What’s your timing set at for cruise and WOT?
Awesome video. Thanks. Are these sniper distributors marine approved? Holley dosent list them with the marine distributors, and I can't find anywhere on there website that says if they are. Thanks.
Wondering the same.
Their website shows Marine applications.
Great video! Is this set-up USCG approved?
Sniper got coast guard approved
@@troydicaprio5220 Awesome! Thank you for getting back to me.
How did you guys put the o2 sensor in?
We got an O2 sensor plate that sits in between the manifold and the elbow.
Does it save You any fuel?
Could you possibly share your timing?
What's your mileage?
I have a question please. I'm really looking to swap this onto my mercruiser 7.4 .....who did your tunning? As I've read the fuel mapping is way differnt for a boat then with a car load wise
I think these have a self learn mode where you just drive the boat at all rpm ranges and it does it automaticlly
@@bradenwuesthoff5639 for marine applications? I've heard otherwise
is it possible to get your tuning config? I've put the sniper on my 350 and can't get a smooth idle
The boat will be back in a month and I will retrieve it.
I am in the process of rebuilding my marine 351w to a 418w stroker in my 84 MC and I am strongly considering the same efi conversion.... is there any info are willing to pass along in regards to the the PCM fuel control cell.... as of right now the fuel supply part of the conversion is a mystery to me.... thanks in advance.
Manco. We used the PCM FCC system because of the simplicity and reliability. The FCC was first introduced in 1998 and continues today. Being able to bring the High Pressure fuel pump close to the fuel rail or throttle body and have a short run of high pressure fuel line. It is coast guard approved which is a bonus. Fuel system kits are around $800. Call us at 317-845-9253 if you have any questions.
@@n3boatworks appreciate the info!
could i possibly take a look at your afr map?
The boat will be back to the shop in a month and I will send it to you.
Silly...I've owned two barefoot nautiques. Quit, sell and play tennis Instead
What? Explain that a little more?
