“Hallelujah” is a queer/circus concept about religion and the importance of choosing kindness regardless of our differences or beliefs. Religion is a tough subject for many in the LGBTQ community, and this piece is a reflection of the struggle and rejection we often feel. It tells the story of an individual troubled by the hate in the world and his partner who is fighting to lift him up, to remind him he is beautiful exactly how he is. My message is that religion should inspire more kindness and open arms, even towards those you may not understand.
My goal is to create art that inspires a kinder world for the queer community by challenging social norms, raising questions and starting conversations. I am creating a series of conceptual videos about gender identity, human nature, queer culture and how the world treats individuals who are “different” but exactly the same. Please subscribe and stay connected to help make future projects possible! By creating performance art that evokes emotion, I hope to deliver important social messages and open minds towards a kinder future.

WOW. My grandson recently came out as gay and all I could do when I watched this is think how much I love him.
Indy Indie you are such a wonderful grandparent!
God bless you!
Your grandson so lucky to have grandparent like you!! God bless your family! 💗

The way they support each other during the choreography and how that represent their need for support in their relationship is truly amazing
This is so moving and beautiful. 💖
It’s beautiful but it’s wrong no hate just saying
@@hobbithembree1476 "No hate, I just don't agree with your existence" Dunno man, seems kinda hateful to me
jlucas that’s not what I meant I can disagree with you with out hating you , again that’s what’s wrong now no one wants to just talk some people things everyone has a hateful agenda I didn’t say I didn’t like the video it was just done in the wrong place try doing this in a mosque or synagogue Why in a Christian Church?
@@hobbithembree1476 Yeah, why use a Christian church to celebrate love?
( btw, we can disagree wether pineapple on pizza is right or wrong, but you can't just say that two people that are in consensual love can't just celebrate it)
Straight female here. That was one of the most beautiful and emotional interpretations of this song I’ve ever seen. Buckley’s version of it has always been my favorite and the dance is just spectacular.
I have never in my life seen two people move so fluidly. Im in absolute tears, this is beautiful
holy christ the cinematography in this gives me chills, the dancers are incredible and the chemistry is on point. this is a work of absolute art.
madsconte i have never seen someone dance this amazing before in my life.
I don't think people understand how much I love this. They're in a church, expressing their love through a contemporary dance. I'm a contemp dancer. I'm bisexual. And I was Christian before some ish went down in my life. This hit hard man.
Similar here. I am a fairly well recovered from having been raised Catholic. The love part of those traditions are spot on, as is this work. Lets all dance!
I hope you know that real christians uplift their brothers and sisters, gay or straight. Im not sure what the ish was, but i have a few guesses. Dont let it turn you away from God but towards Him. Look at His example. Jesus said to love those who hate you and pray for those who persecute you.
I'm bisexual and I've never felt fault in God's love. My sexual attraction has nothing to do with my relationship with God. There are awful-hearted people out there who will choose to hate their brothers and sisters but people who truly have God's loving spirit, they dont discriminate, they welcome. I've met so many people like that, so I want you to know there is hope in people where God's love is truly present as it is apart of one of His greatest commandments.
I am straight and also a Christian. I have seen so much hate from Christians toward the LGBTQ community, but those hateful few don't speak for the majority of us. Their voices may sometimes be louder because hate is such a loud emotion that often is spewed without any justifiable reason, but I sincerely hope that most other Christians love and respect our brothers and sisters with complete disregard to whom they love, because to do otherwise is simply foolish and not in any way Christian-like. You are loved. You are respected. And you are heard. Maybe not by everyone, but certainly by me and many, many others. I hope you're able to somehow make peace with God. He created you perfectly, and if being gay/bi was sinful He would not have created you this way. Much love to you, my friend.
@@mhandanunnerybosarge1690 sweet, but the bible says what it says.
The choreography is some of the best I have ever seen. The precision and strength of the two dancers is unmatched. I was a dancer a lifetime ago and these two performers are about the best I've ever seen. I Commend everyone that had anything to do with this award winning production.🎉
Stunning. My partner passed away two years ago. I still miss him. I miss my partner...my lover... my friend. He was Tom Sawyer to my Huck Finn and I miss our adventures. I have never enjoyed life so much as I did with him. Love is the ultimate “Hallelujah”. And love is not bound by race, religion, or gender.
Thank you for your post, and for your description of a man who sounds as though he was good company.
I’m sorry for your loss. Your partner must have been amazing!
Those we love always have a place in our heart and soul. Our memories are eternal and you will make more when you meet him again.

I am moved to tears .......to Guillaume, and Arthur; thank you for sharing this message and for assisting us all in moving forward. Thank you for sharing hope, and love. Without a doubt, I love what you are doing for me, and for us. Peace and love to you both.
I love everything about this. The contrast in the intro, the fact that it's filmed inside a church, the choreography, the times when their bodies intertwine that you can't tell where they begin and where they end, the way they effortlessly execute such complicated movements yet radiate a sense of contentment, the sudden pop of colors at the end.
Words aren't enough to describe how this made me feel.
The place really is appropriate because this is not only a dance, it's a prayer.
yes! I had the same thought.
It's called performance
Art is love, God opens the doors of his house for those who give love, there are no appropriate places for exhibitions of love and art
It's just beautiful, and love is transcending all barriers, just enjoy it.
I agree Paolo. Love and respect for God should be first. Then love for another human..
I’ve probably watched this 50 times. It is the most beautiful thing on CZcams.
Oh, holy shit. Wow. This is probably the most beautiful expression of humanity I have ever shown my children. The talent, the strength, the very real personal and interpersonal dance of passion and of pain, it's all so breath-taking. The setting, the music, the dancers, the choreography--all come together to celebrate love so beautifully and, if one wants to go there, so powerfully in glaring contrast with and complete rejection of the ignorant and hateful homophobia that still pervades much of this world. Thank you so much to everyone involved and for sharing this with us on CZcams.
This is probably one of the most impactful and beautiful performances that I have ever had the privilege of witnessing
I liked the new moves and the synchronization! I adored how they were gentle and loving without sexualizing the message.
Maybe not sexual, but it's really sensual.
Agree with you and Chris. It is sensual since love is as such and very endearing and beautiful! I like that they depicted the essence of The Church, a feminine mother embracing her son ‘Love’!

I tell you something… This has got to be the most beautiful video I have ever ever ever seen… This is coming from a gay man..father of three grown sons and two grandchildren and I’m so far in the closet, there is no light to be seen and all I do is cry every night…this video was breathtaking! The dancing was fabulous, but I was more envious that they were able to amorously hug each other… I’d like to find that someday… Peace, everybody ❤
That was the most beautiful and most significant I have ever seen. You boys did yourself proud and the gay community at large. I was in tears the way you portrayed love in such a beautiful way. LOVE IS LOVE no matter what form and I AM SO PROUD OF YOU BOTH!!! That was exquisite movement on both your parts and the feeling I got when I watched. You brought so much "breath" and "light" into this movement and the choreographer of this piece should be forever praised. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! IT WAS A DELIGHT TO WATCH❤❤
It’s not pride month anymore, I’m not gay, but damn I cried watching this. I hope the whole situation gets better in the future for all you beautiful LGBT peeps. Love you all!
Pride - Pride is an unrestrained and improper appreciation of our own worth. Widely considered the most serious of the seven sins; pride often leads to the committing of other capital sins. Pride is manifest in vanity and narcissism about one’s appearance, intelligence, status, etc. Dante described pride as “love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one’s neighbor.”
@@baghdeda dont need it.
i read that as 'not gay anymore' and was like???

that understated kiss. quick, light, and gentle. but undeniably powerful.
When I was 4 years old I felt for the first time who I was, after 5 years I was put against from the church... when I was 12, I try to suicide. It's not about God. It's about what people manipulate saying who is God. Always when people say something in this line I know that I can prove to myself that I was born like that. Look all the possibilities that this universe can give us. Do u think that God is so small to create just one line of his love? He is more than our patterns and what our eyes can see. I trust in something high than just what bible says... we can't know all about Him, less than a fraction of a pale blue dot that we call earth... that for us is big enough, coz we can see, feel. Just God knows who he is and who he loves.
I wish every homophobic person could read this comment that you wrote. Bcz yes, we should believe in something higher than what the Bible says. I’m Christian. But from the Bible- I don’t think that everything about Him is there. A person wrote it, not Him, himself. I believe in Him but I along with that, I believe that he created more than one certain pattern of love. No one should say that God does not love who. He know who He loves. If you’re a homophobia person who reads the Bible, I’m sure you’ve come across something along the lines of”God loves us all”. If a gay person declares himself as a child of God. Believe me, He loves him/her.
Right on. God made you exactly how he wanted. Love yourself because God loves you.
It's difficult in the beggining, but when we relize who we are and that we can't change it, we start to love ourselves.
👏🏻👏🏻 preach it
I love these words. You almost made me cry.
I have this so many times and I am still yet to watch the whole video at one go because the direction, choreography, dancing and these guys are just so amazing and breath-taking that I keep rewinding!

Dancers are always so impressive! The way they are so athletic yet graceful blows my mind. These two made impossible movements look possible. Thank you so much for sharing your craft and your story!
the fact that this is filmed in a church and obviously about Christianity and the song was written by a Jewish man questioning if there is even a G/d
Why do you write "G/d"? Are you afraid to write "God"? Like somehow you can talk about God and that's okay, but if you write his name you're being blasphemous? Is that it? Seems to me that abbreviating someone's name is still saying their name. Certainly God knows you mean him if that's who you're referring to. Wouldn't it show more respect to call him what he wants to be called instead of what YOU prefer to call him? Just asking.
@@jonathandough9413 I'm just wondering, but why are you assuming that my reason involves blasphemy or fear? Neither of those concepts are central in my faith. Also, if you've spoken to G/d and know what G/d prefers to be called, by all means please share. I write "G/d" because I respect G/d and I don't want the name to be written where it can be deleted or destroyed. I'm not afraid of "blasphemy," I just want to show my love of G/d in all my deeds. That is also the reason why I am answering you, when you clearly have a lot of biases you need to work on. I hope this helps! :)
@@mattinthehat7603 Read better. I assumed nothing. I asked you a question. YOU are the one assuming things, accusing me of having "a lot" of biases which you tell me parentally that I need to work on. Please re-read my comment and list a few of the "biases" you assume I have.
You fundamentalists are so touchy! Just asking a question makes you all defensive. And IF we DO think you're delusional to believe in angels, demons, devils, gods and sacred ghosts, we have "biases." If you look up "bias" it has to do with prejudice, which has to do with notions not supported by EVIDENCE.
No problem worshipping any god you want, or spelling its name any way you want, but don't act like it’s the rest of us, those who believe in reality and evidence, who are biased.
@@jonathandough9413 The biases I was referring to are your biases as a result of being brought up with only an understanding of Christian beliefs. As a Jew, it is clear to me that you don't know what I believe at all.
By the way, I am not a fundamentalist. I have no idea what gave you that impression. I am Reform Jewish.
I'm not telling you what to believe. I am living my life according to the rules of my faith. I have never claimed that mine is superior to anyone else's, only that this video overlooks the context of the song in a way that I believe really devalues its meaning.
I'm very sorry that you felt so offended by my comment. Please take up further concerns about Jewish faith with a rabbi or someone else who is more informed. While I love to spread information about my beliefs, I'm by no means the representative of all Judaism. Thanks :)
@@mattinthehat7603 Hate to drag this out, but I'll address your confusion. Fundamentalism is a mind set. One of its earmarks is a quickness to be defensive. When I simply asked you a question, and even repeated, "just asking," you gave a reactionary answer and declared I had biases that I needed to address.
I don't care how you write the word God, but hey, you say you are Reform Jewish, but just for the record, the consensus of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (a Reform Jewish authority), the primary prohibition against erasure of the name God applies only to the sacred names in a written text of Torah-in other words, when it's written in Hebrew, not in other languages or in electronic media.
Of course you can write it any way you wish. But hey... be careful being parental with others and making assumptions about them. Seems to me you were the one doing what you claimed I was doing.
Pretty sure I'd like you in real life, though.

So beautiful, I broke into tears when they kissed. An amazing choice to film this breathtaking dance to the music ha Hallelujah in a church, and clearly a Roman Catholic one. And to end with LOVE, so perfect.
I'm in tears again. The love, choreography, the setting, the music. I so much hope to experience this kind of love, friendship one day.
A lot of people are questioning why they would dance on an altar in such unmodest clothing. First, most dance attire is tight to the body due to the fact that dancing requires the ability to move your limbs freely. Second, the dance isn't sexual, none of the behaviors shown in this video were inherently sexual in any manner. All of the movements were those of love and admiration. And 3rd, I don't know about other churches, but in my church the stage in the altar is a place of communication and expression. A place to talk to your fellow congregation and God. God made Adam , and he realized that humans need community to flourish. And then made Eve, he made humans naked, he made them skin and bones and muscles layered over one another. I think this dance was a beautiful representation of two men infatuated with each other and God. I see no misuse of religion, only two Faithful Men who found their soulmates in each other.
❤
This was beautify worded, and somehow, makes me love this video even more.
I myself couldn’t have said it better. 👏🏼👏🏼
@Tuel also don’t forget people in the Bible tore there clothes to show extreme emotions or yelled all of which is “not appropriate for church” so people love to have their ideas of appropriateness but just know all that matters is God sees you and your love or pain or happiness
In my dictionary, the altar is a table. No time is this dance did the couple approach the altar. Do not confuse altar with sanctuary. Although on is contained within the other, they are not synonymous.
You are a wonderful person

The most amazing expression of love I have ever seen. Congrats to the creator and to the beautiful performers!
I've seen this performance before, but once again I sobbed through it's entirety. The beauty of their dance, carried out in perfect synchronicity was not simply about their love as a couple - it was about what we need to aspire to as a global society. Yes, working together and moving together as though we are one in perfect harmony and unison. This is such a powerful message and the talents of these two men are extraordinary. The struggle between Religion and Sexuality is killing me inside out
I felt the same too
I was raised Christian, and it is a very difficult struggle between religion and sexuality. I’m bisexual, and at the end of the day...for me, it made me question my religion quite a bit. I never hated LGBT but I knew plenty of people who did. At the end of the day, I left Christianity because it didn’t feel true to me anymore.
Me too, it's just the fact that both things are so important to you and you have to pick one of them.
For me personally, I’m still unsure about my sexuality (I’m either bi or a lesbian, I know that for sure) but Christianity was very close minded for me. So, I created my own perception and religion for myself.
I believe there is right and wrong and doing something wrong will bite you in your ass, whether it be dead or alive.
I believe you can love whoever you want as long as it’s consensual between both of you and that the other person is smart and old enough to make that decision ( nobody under the age of 18 or old that you can take advantage of them)
I believe there is a higher being or power that sees, knows and hears everything, but can’t predict anything.
I believe that this higher being created the entire world (space, planets, animals and plants)
I believe there are no prophets or humans that can communicate with this higher being.
I believe this higher being doesn’t control us and that we are responsible for our own actions
I believe in the concept of Khama like Hindus, but definitely not reincarnation
I believe we all have a purpose in life
Xarii Fernandes welcome to the concept of paganism 😂 where we all believe vastly different things 😂 I believe the same on love. I don’t believe any gods exist as individuals but I do use the images of specifically Celtic gods to represent different things in life and to focus on those aspects. I also believe that nature is the most important thing, and that we should treat it with respect and integrate ourselves into it, because the disconnect is why people don’t care if they hurt the environment. When you hurt nature, it hurts everything else, including you.
This brought me to tears. So beautiful!🏳️🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🏳️⚧️
Why am I just now seeing this?! WOW! Thank you for this❤
This artwork is IMPORTANT! Matthew Richardson and his team bridge so many communities together, in the name of love! Combining dance, acro, a gorgeous cathedral, and an incredible song, they’ve been able to put in visual terms a concept we’ve all battled/been faced with. Instead, of seeing a cathedral and feeling uneasy or unaccepted, for the first time I’m finally seeing a cathedral and feeling comforted and safe! Seeing two men in love, celebrating that love in a place of worship is so special and we needed to see this! The world needed to see this! Thank you Matthew and your beautiful team:)

This is so beautiful. The ways that they conjoined their bodies to look like they fit perfectly together, like two sculptures that used to be one, torn apart, but the peices still fit together so perfectly, it looks like it was never broken. It is rare that a dance will take my breath away or truely speak to me because at my dance school, it is all about "sass" and while that is okay, I want to do a dance that means something to me. One where I don't have to show facials because they are already there. I want a dance where people can ask me the meaning and the story and I can tell them while being able to relate to it. I want to dance something as beautiful as this.
A beautiful choreography by two amazing artists, in a church. Times have changed and this is exactly how it is supposed to be. Beautiful and touching.
I felt pure love in their movements, it was absolutely beautiful and stunning
This is so much better than actually “
making love”. Not only a beautiful masterpiece, but perfect, tender, loving scene, the most amazing video I have seen in a long time. Thank you for making it! LOVE is everything!
It's sad that a building so beautiful could hold so much hate.
This is sooo beautiful and pure and touching! ❤️ I cried because of the way they touch each other and how they dance, because of the music and the location! Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙏🏻❤️
ive transcended. there are no words to describe this for me, the movement, the energy, the connection, the love, the despair and moving between so many cross disiplines, while telling a story and embodying it all. thank you for making and sharing this. i hope there is more to come. i would love to see this live.
Dance is a most beautiful art where ever it is performed.
I watched this while listening to the Arabic version Ya Ilahi by Siedd and it was beautiful, You captured the grace and beauty that I feel. My heartfelt thanks for expressing the struggle and yearning yet strength.
This is four years old and I only found this masterpiece now.
This is a beautiful and powerful message! And it made me cry.
I have been moved to tears watching this video. The imagery and message are so POWERFUL! Thank you for sharing your love, talent and passion with the world. BRAVO!
progressive church, hallelujah!
This is so beautiful…the music, the dancers, the colors….stunning work. Thank you. ❤️
I loved the projected message. One of the hardest things is admitting to oneself your own truth!
That was one of the most emotionally moving and beautiful things I've ever watched. Seriously. I'm in awe.
Wow!! So powerful and inspiring. I saw moves I have NEVER seen before, and didn't even know were physically possible. BEAUTIFUL.
I’m in tears from how breathtakingly beautiful this is. Thank you so much for this masterpiece. ❤️ the way your bodies carry each other and the story each movement tells is astonishing. 👏👏 WOW.
Have watched this about 15 times and each time it touches my heart in a new stimulating way. Wonderful!
What makes this unique, in my opinion, is how natural the movements are and the seamless transitions from on move to the next. Contrast the dance with the church which is often in conflict with sexuality. We get a simple, eloquent and loving rebuttal to church-based violence and religious intolerance.
Very appropriately choreographed in a church... this dance was a more sincere and heartfelt prayer than most prayers I witnessed in any religion. Love is the highest form of religion
Just stumbled on this. Stunning. You twist yourself around and turn yourself inside out, and then somehow you find someone that can love you. You learn to dance with each other and support each other, and then someone comes and tries to tell you that what you have isn't "good" or "right". Life can be so hard. If we are lucky enough to find someone to love us and love them in return, no one has the right to tell us anything about it at all. If we all followed the golden rule and treated others the way we wish to be treated, the world would be such a better place. No other doctrine needed at all. If you don't wish to be judged, dont judge others. So deceptively simple, but so hard to do.
so I had a battle of the religious imagery and the art...the art kept winning out. So beautifully done. These men are beautiful dancers who are able to convey what could be "controversial" into a beautifully powerful message. Bravo.
