BMW E70 X5 - How to reset the sunroof when it wont close.

- My poor e70 X5m hasn't been getting much use in the last year due to COVID-19. Today when I opened the sunroof, it decided that it wasn't going to close again.
This can happen for many reasons, but for me it was probably due to the battery going flat from not driving it for a long period.
Thankfully this is an easy fix, a simple re-intialisation of the sunroof to teach the car where all the limits are and it's back to being good as new.
To re-initialise:
1) Open your sunblind so that it's in the fully open position.
2) Press the sunroof button up and hold it. Keep holding it while the sunroof goes through the full range of motion.
3) When it's finished your sunroof should be closed with the blind fully closed
4) Let go of the button and give your arm a rest.
5) Test to make sure it opens and closes correctly.

My sinroof was jammed... but i got it solved by watching this nice video!!!! Dang!!!! Thanx!!!
glad you got it sorted.
@@RichsRides awesome!
Thank you brotha you always save my life with this video . 😆 but question it comes & goes when it wants to anyway from stopping this situation
+Nathan Lopez you're welcome dude, glad it helped.
Unfortunately I don't know why this happens, I suspect mine was from a low battery, but. honestly guessing.
If you ever find out why it happens please let me know, or better still .... tell BMW so they can fix it! 🤣
That worked for me as well, you are our hero! Thanks!!!
+Life of Jim and Hang you're welcome dude, glad it helped.
You are the man!!! Thank you thank you!
+Tyler Bennion glad it helped.
Feel like I've been neglecting the X5M while I've been busy with the M5. There's still so much to do to it! It's also just thrown a code for the crankshaft sensor (probably due to lack of use!) which is now on order.
She'll have to sit on the driveway until the part turns up.
Now I have two BMW's stuck on the drive !!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE YOU
you're welcome buddy.
seems to have worked

+dennis kongvongsai glad it helped.

+Kennedy Brown glad it helped, thanks for the comment it really made my day. 😁
I try this one mine and my window doesn’t even slide back when holding. have done this 20 times please if you have any advice let me know
+Brandon Love have you got any errors recorded on the car? sounds like you might need to plug a computer in to see what's going on. it might be a faulty switch, or even a faulty module?
With my BMW X5 pan roof it only open the first half of the roof and the rear on stays closed do you know anything about this
That's a new one! Has it ever opened?
Try the reset process and see if it helps, the reset basically tells the car where all the limits are. So you never know it might fix it.
Good luck.
+Rayyan Younis did you get it sorted?
@@RichsRides sorry for a late reply only saw it now I will try
@@rayyanyounis4789 hope it works buddy. Good luck.
Rich , mines still won’t close properly, I take it I’ll have to do it manually, thanks 🏴🙏
+Charlieboy Lol what happens? might just need a little lubrication to help?
@@RichsRides the back tilts at one side , so I watched another video and the guy hits the 2 wedge st it’s wit a hammer and screw driver and it moves along and close ok but the Center bit is up a couple of ml it’s nearly flush , but he also took out the wedge bit and snapped the ends off both of them and then it works perfect but the back doesn’t open , I don’t want that to happen, I want it to work properly, thanks
Rich, any more info off what could be the problem, thanks
@@charlieboylol527 really not sure. Could be the track is Brocken?
@@charlieboylol527 did you find the issue with yours i tried this but sadly didn’t work my is titled on one side as well.
Can I buy you a pint? You just saved me a few ££
+keith riley no worries Keith, glad it helped. thanks is more than enough dude.
Yeah and now it doesnt open again wtf
Did it go through the process and now it does nothing? What if you try it again, does it cycle?
@@RichsRides had to do it a few times on an e70 x5 to get it working like it use to, keeping the button held in each time for the entire duration of the cycle, not 10 or 15 sec as other sources will claim.
Once it completed the first cycle it had to be repeated, that’s where the confusion was for me.
@@JV8391 glad you got it sorted. Weird it needed a few cycles but if it works it works!
I have to wait 10 min then it hasn't wworked
+Emanuel Collado does anything happen at all? what symptoms do you have?
It should only take a few mins.
@@RichsRides I'm probably too impatient I'll hold it for 5 to 10 min
+Emanuel Collado no, it shouldn't take that long. does it start to cycle the op n close or does it just do nothing?
@@RichsRides does nothing it's a 2008 x5 sports package
Could be a fuse
