“An average of 4 skins per champion”
Lux and Ezreal: Pathetic
Double digit skin gang
*Lux signature look of superiority*
Yeah, also I thought there were over 1200 skins in the game, so the average should be over 8 skins per champion.

@@Pr1est0fDoom yeah ik wtf

thank you donghuap.
wtf how do you not know?
@@sorenkair seeing colour is a very personal thing i could genuinely see more colours then any other person and i wouldn’t know
@@augustuslunasol10thapostle oh definitely, there is actually a condition/genetic quirk where someone can be born with extremely sensitive vision cones or have an extra one entirely. These people see colour more vividly and for those who have a 4th cone, see more colours than other people do.
animals are also a good show of this - deer lack specific cones, and thus see orange as greenish. This is why tigers are orange - their prey literally cannot see them among the grass and trees. Birds see ultraviolet light, and their entire world is different to how we see. Male birds are so extravagant and to female birds, they're even *more* extreme.
The reason we see tigers as orange, and birds as wacky colours, is because apes and humans evolved to eat fruit alongside of meat - we have to be able to see orange, red, purple, etc, so we can discern which fruits are good and which fruits are bad.
It's also worth mentioning that colourblind people are very rarely - if ever - born *lacking* the vision cones. They have them - it's just that their brains and eyes are wired differently and often mix colours together and don't respond to certain wavelengths.
Something else interesting, men are more likely to be colourblind than women, this is due to sex chromosomes (xy vs xx) and something that i forget the real name of, but i call it "cover-up". In women, if there is a fault on one X chomosome, the other X can "cover up" and make up for the fault. This can't happen in men, and as such sex-linked diseases and hereditary issues are more present in men.
I'm colorblind to various shades of red. Team fights are an absolute nightmare with enemy team/minion hp bars bunching up and making it impossible to see what's going on.
The colorblind mode we have in game seems to only slightly affect greens and helps very little.
I'm genuinely curious, how difficult would it be to program more than one colorblind mode setting in a game like this? I'd imagine it'd be incredibly difficult and/or at least time consuming with how much content there is to work through..
@@pyroapophis3302 Not difficult at all. Just look at how WoW did their colorblind mode.

Fun fact, a major reason that Vlad's VFX clarity is hard to fix is that he uses blood in his kit. Due to certain regions censoring blood, reworking Vlad's effects isn't possible without taking out the blood entirely. It's like Graves Cigar but worst cus you can't see the guy on certain skins.
HOLY SHIT! Im a Vladimir main and I didnt know about this. Thanks for bringing light into this!
So...Vlad is banned in China? Or what, is he a tomato juice mage there?
@@moti1s one of my first memories of league (s5) is BLACK Vlad. In my memories, all his red visuals were black instead - also fun fact Karthus stopped being a skeleton because of China
@@akaliislifeakaliislove5968 That's one of the changes I'm actually glad for. Karthus as a death singer is a way cooler concept than just a generic skeleton lich, and for the people, that liked him more as a skeleton, there's always the Grim Reaper skin.
Can't they just make a white colour swap for regions that ban blood? Worked with most games back in the day.

@@JFNCreep you would think there would be an option to turn of all skins so that you only see champions base skins or turn of specific skins then riot can make whatever skins they want and that look cool and people can turn it off if it's hard for enemies or teamates to identify.

"Skins have winrates"
Boy oh boy I wanna see Yasuo's chart.
It's in the video twice
There is bias in there so its less significant
@@PRubin-rh4sr there’s bias in the winrates? How?
@@juliotorres3147 Because the winrate of each skin is a *correlation* , so if you assume it's causation you're missing out on the massive bias of *who* is playing those skins when.
@@simone8172 that makes no sense Simon , a rate is a measurement a ratio between related quantities of different units , so skins and their winrate , therefore if a skin has higher winrate in gold it should have higher winrate in diamond too because its the skin that gives an advantage compared to other skins not to other players skill
Secret tip: In the settings, you can change the summoner names of people into the champion their playing so you know who you’re fighting. 👌🏻
Yeah I came here for this comment it invalidates half of the video bc you can easily distinguish champions with names why would you want to see usernames anyway

This is a good video, but it's not what I was expecting from the title. I was assuming you were going to go through the history of skins that have been problematic (Santa Gragas, Steel Legion Lux, Infernal Shen, Storm Dragon Lee Sin, Battle Academia Ezreal, iBlitzcrank, Project Pyke, several old Veigar skins, etc.)
You touched on this a little bit in the video, but spent a lot of time talking about just a couple of the constraints that Riot VFX and Sound artists have to work around nowadays. It's still informative, but it was a little disappointing given the expectation I was given from the title of the video.
Keep the content coming though
I think he didnt want to roast Riot that much, but I agree with you.
Yeah, that is what i thought too from the title, expected to hear about certain skins are so pay to win that they are banned from pro play, like Headhunter nidalee and High noon senna. Nidalee skin has a bug where if she throws a spear from fog of war, it is invisible lmao
That was actually the original narrative when I put this topic up for the poll. But after going through the other vids out there about P2W skins, I decided that it would just be a repeat of a lot of the other stuff that's already out there. As time goes on Clarity will get better and most of these issues are supposed to be fixed.

Nice last words! I love how you showed esport skins when talking about clarity issues. I lost a game once because I mistook a Rakan for a Xayah (both in their respective esport skin) when looking for an engage. Since they both are humanoids with one wing but share the same color pallet in this skin line unlike their default skins (which is in retrospect probably intentional as they have completely different colors) I couldnt tell them apart in a quarter of a second.
As a xayah main ill point you to the ears. She always has the noticeably big ears in any skin rakan always has the giant hair.
Snow Day Ziggs is totally busted on ARAM. You can't freakin see his E on the ground.
I think the effect on team morale, both own and enemy, that Cow Alistar has with the Bell dance is the biggest pay to win there is 😂
"Sound. The most important aspect of the game."
Me playing without sound for years: 🤔
Same.
You legit don't need sound to play League.
I'd even say I find it annoying and distracting.
@@e.d.5536 I gave to hear everytime yasuo says (no cure for fools) or else can't play him right

... i use sound to play league lol, especislly when ur in the jg role . Ect cetere , i play camille and everytime i use my Q , i will wait until there a pop sound to press Q again instead of looking at my cd bar .
The sound aspect is so much more important in my opinion. There were quite a few times I've encountered a bug where the enemy had no sound effects. One time I was fighting against a Vel'Koz and he was using the arc light skin. I had no idea I was already eating half of his ult until it was too late because I couldn't hear it.
every god damn time I'll think "wait a minute, those are the same picture". I am colorblind, have been aware of it for many years and still I forget sometimes
also great video
I just want to point out that the base skin may have a lower win rate due to the obvious fact that people using the base skin probably don't really play the champion enough to own a skin so their skills are gonna be lesser most times. But, I'm sure you knew that already. :)
Before his rework I really loved Praetorian Fiddlesticks. It swapped his old voicelines for eerie robot noises and his janky animations made sense on a mass manifactured murder robot.
Then he was reworked and nobody uses that skin anymore.
Different skins can also attract more dedicated mains so that could affect those wintered
Tf2’s silhouette design is the best I’ve seen in any game. If you watch interviews on it you’ll see how much time, effort, and care they put into it. For riot it used to not matter as long as the cash flows.
my favorite sound in skins was artic ops varus , the autos just feel so much better because of the sound
Thats how i feel about heartseeker orianna, the auto sound is so satisfying
and the arrow looks like a toothpick, weird hitbox.
I personally LOVE the Dark Cosmic Jhin skin, not just for the look and the awesome dance animation but also the sound design, the fourth auto-attack sounds really satisfying in that skin.
"Some people thought it was a Kayne skin"
Dude, I thought the Q was Ezreals and was SUPER confused when Lee Sin dashed into my face and one shot me in an aram
riot singed used to be able to toggle Q so fast make the poison invisible. Granted the AOE was small, but if someone was right clicking you it almost always hit.
I actually benefitted a lot from the reverse effect that you describe at 15:30. I absolutely *love* Pulsefire Caitlyn. It's a beautiful skin and I even love the sounds. Thing is, I got into a headspace for a while where I was way too overconfident thanks to recent performances, and kept throwing away potential victories by playing too confidently or overestimating my damage. When I tried out Pool Party Cait on a whim after getting the shard, it really helped me change up my play. My auto attacks finally *sounded* like they were doing wet noodle amounts of damage, which was exactly the message I needed to hear. Rather than some godly figure with all time as their domain, I was a goofy person out at the pool with a watergun, and I would get killed like one if I overstepped.
Ran into recognizability issues yesterday where a vlad and Lucian skin made them look extremely similar due to their coat-tail silhouettes.
There are so many skins that are p2w on howling abyss, the lighting on that map is fucked
I wasn’t expecting to see someone actually appreciating the rioters for their hard work when I clicked but ty for the wholesome ending of this vid!
@DongHuaP just wanna say that, it's just interesting to

The second part about skins making a champion feel much better resonates with me on a different level. I'm an ADC main and I cannot stress enough how better does Ashe feel with her High Noon skin. Even Rekkles said that during his stream that Ashe feels so much better with this skin. The complete opposite for me is Project Vayne. I super love the skin, but with the different sound ques, Vayne as a champion feels weird, almost weaker than her other skins. Love the video man! Keep 'em coming.
I hate how ashes base animations are so outdated. She has like 10 skins or something, but only 2 of them are worth using.

My biggest problem is skins that make champions look like other champions. I was playing a game when someone was using some skin that made me think they were lux, so I played accordingly, only to be killed on repeat. I had to keep reminding myself it was fiora or someone, but my default brain kept going back to "oh it's lux"

I love this kind of videos, thankyou.
This is a well put together video, we should thank the Rioters who make our game look amazing and make it clear for us to understand with all their hard work being put into the game. They really deserve a lot.
That is highly debatable. Firstly you are assuming ownership of the game, that by itself is a bad way to look at it. because tis a product sold. you might not be the one paying for it. But make no mistake, its been payed for. Secondly, the fallacy of community and development is a dangerous line to draw. Despite how much passion or good will comes with anything the game has. Riot is not your friend and will act like they own you no loyalty. Because they don't. And this disconnect just creates bad incentives for both "costumers" and "service providers" This is not a transaction between equals or on equal terms. Fall for this fallacy on your own risk. Thirdly. Since there is no financial incentive to fix broken things. Where does the incentive must come from? The answer is simple: Both pressure and future investment. Before making stupid decisions or empty para-social relationships. First think of the incentives those things create.
@@klaussone true.

I think skins having varying win rates is because a player that's good with the champ is going to get the best looking skin. The skins that don't look so great end up in orbs and chest so a first time player is more likely to use these skins before a veteran of that champ
That ending was wholesome af
What about the lee sin dance where he just walks 4 meters forwards?:D
At 6:54 I thought that old project game mode came back and I got all excited lol
This video was a wonderful surprise. The content was a little off of what I thought it'd be but, it was a much better topic for me.
This was a lot more wholesome than I expected. Good shit, Doug.
Not gonna lie, I use a Spider Ward in hopes of finding arachnophobic people.
The amount of times I've died to veigar due to not recognizing his skin...

I think the way to solve all these problems would be to have an option to see only the base skins of the champions as well as remove the cosmetic effects of the rift
I don't think I can look at Zac the same after knowing how his sounds are made...
You missed quite a lot on the actual history of pay-to-win skins that have a real competitive advantage. Things like Steel Legion Lux, Underworld TF, and iBlitzcrank. They had many advantages and were banned in competitive play until they were changed. You should have covered those. The story behind them was really interesting and still exists in some skins (see Arctic Gragas).
Thanks for the video! When you mentioned Project Vayne and Battle Academia Caitlyn ulti, I thought of Project Vayne ulti. It creates those goggles vision on the screen and is actually a negative, but I just can't give it up.

I always knew Project Yasuo was a pay to lose skin, that auto attack animation just doesn't hit right.

"Do these skins actually translate To a higher winrate?"
My answer: Depends on a champion.
Some skins's spell hitboxes are very-very broken (Looking at you ashe)
But some other champs (Twisted Fate) don't have such skins, that change the game
And the last thing: ELDERWOOD AHRI

I think that a different reason for players feeling like they did better with a skin is because of changed animations. For instance Yasuo has a bit of a pay to lose situation for me, because on Nightbringer he auto attacks in a different way than normal, and his q looks way different. So it's hard for me to guage of I hit the enemy or not based on my previous q's, and I cancel way more autos when trying to attack and move on loop, than with the bloodmoon skin.
give players option to remove skins from their perspective
Since people don't always buy the skin for them but also to show to other that you likes the champ and use money to buy new graphics for your main, it's not really a good idea.
And then if people can just disable it, why buy skin ? There is way to change LoL folder to have all of the skin. But only for you and no one will see it.
What about being able to disable enemy skins? In the sense of seeing enemy champions in their base skin.
Riot has gone over that in the past
The point of skins is having other people see them, if they could be disabled then no skins would sell
@@Sunsetradi0 I don't agree. I am someone who loves skins (maybe a little bit too much) and have a lot of them and I don't buy them so others can see them buy them so I can see them.

Fiddlesticks scares the shit out of me everytime he uses his R in suprise party skin
What about having the option to just disable skins client side?
Riot doesn't want to do that because
1.) that would imply they're making skins unfair enough to make people want a feature like that
2.) they believe that part of the reason people want to buy skins is to show it off, and knowing that people might disable seeing your skin could hamper sales for some people.

The first time i experienced this while training Riven fastcombo. The skin which is tricky is Dawnbringer Riven, because her autoattack sound triggers before the damage, so you can actually do an Aa sound but cancel the damage. This is huge for advanced Riven play and you need to get used to this when changing skins.

The thing with clarity is that it effects both sides. One of the best examples I saw of this was thebausffs hitting Sion Q on the edge of the hitbox and then being surprised it hit.
