Sadly Benny passed away yesterday. He was truly a great man. We will miss the hell out of him. Rest easy my friend.
Oh no..really?? I didnt hear about that. So sad
Not to shit on his grave, but you didnt know him. All I'm saying is a lot of shit happens behind the scenes.
He did a lot of benefit concerts and really cared about Syracuse. I met him with friends about 38 years ago after a night out and he was a decent guy. None of us are perfect and like anyone else he had his faults. That's all I'll say about that, I won't speak ill of the dead.
Saw him in Atlanta in 1980 when he was touring and promoting this album and song. He was awesome and blew the lid off the place. He was a real talent and will be missed.
Yeah, he was a great guy. He was my great uncle and you would never meet a nicer person.
The Tarzan yell is Amazing. One of a kind. RIP Benny we will never forget you or this song.
When he sings this live.... it is spot on! Man had an incredible voice!
The inception of this song is a very interesting story. Benny had a neighbor, a family with several kids, the oldest being a 16 yr old girl. The dad took off, abandoning the family (I'm not sure but I think the mom may have been out of the picture, or maybe just overwhelmed). So, Benny kinda took them under his wing to look after them, make sure they were okay, gave them grocery money etc. One of the things he did to help them earn a little money is that he paid the girl to walk his dog every day. BTW, she was apparently very pretty, and looked older than 16. Anyway, one day he was in his place with his collaborator, and the girl came in to get the dog for its walk, and after she left the collaborator made a comment about how attractive she was, to which Benny replied, "Hey man, she's only 16. Leave her alone." That's how they got the first line, and the rest of the song grew out of his anger over the fact that the dad just left them to fend for themselves ("Separated by fools
who don't know what love is yet... It's like having a dream
where nobody has a heart"). It's about how he wished he could fix it, or could make it better for them.
I'm so glad that you reacted to the audio only, and not the video. The video is horrible! Incredibly creepy and disturbing, suggesting a pedophilial relationship between a grown man and a teen girl, including a scene in which he comes into her bedroom through a window with a rug to lie down on. It's supposed to be a "magic carpet" but it's just a little to suggestive of an abduction. But back in 1980, we all were a lot less aware of that kind of thing. Even taking that into account, the video is abominable.
Fun Fact about the singing he does near the end: he was actually singing an example of what he wanted the saxophone player to play. But the producer liked it so much, that he nixed the saxophone, and left in Benny's voice instead.
That is the story he told in an interview before he died. If you watch the original video, it is so not what that was about. The video is about falling in love with an underage girl. I am sure the disgust he got over the years had him changing his story up. Still a beutiful song, but sorta creepy also if you have ever seen the video.
@@pjsleepwalker3010 They asked the girl about this and she told them, everything Benny said in the interview was true, so you and your dumb story are false and hateful. Rest In Peace Benny. Greatest Song and Voice of ALL TIME!
The Media got involved and went back and retracted what they said. The, video was not Benny's creation, it was the producers' creation.
@@pjsleepwalker3010 Here is the story for you. jump to 7:40 czcams.com/video/EyABE-qjIbI/video.html
Honestly who gives a living fk?
Thanks for this information. I hadn’t heard this song in years. Now seeing this video at 53 made me say whoa wtf
Unfortunately, Benny passed away yesterday (06-29-20) from complications
due to Parkinson's. He was 73 and had Parkinson's for 20 years. Into
The Night was his Signature Song and a One Hit Wonder. This song was so
good, even Benny couldn't TOP it. It was my favorite song from 1980,
and it still is my favorite!
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. This song will stand the test of time. Back then, I wore out 3 of his cassette tapes! He had great songs. When he served in Vietnam, he would sing to his fellow soldiers, for comfort. They called him “The Voice”! RIP, dear Benny.😰😰❤️
The end always gives me chills
goosebumps!!!
R.I.P Benny who has passed away on June 29, 2020 from Parkinson's disease. He will be remembered for his hit song and that voice singing "Into the Night". The song actually cracked the Billboard singles charts 3 separate times.
A Legend in Syracuse! Everyone knew who Benny was!!!
The voice has unparalleled passion & one of my all time favorites regardless of the lyrics
This song was very popular in South Florida where i grew up ...played in heavy rotation on radio...i actually spoke with Benny when i worked for Fedex back in the day he called in and when i recognized his name he sang this song for me...!!!❤👏
Very nice voice.
Linda Jones yep, Miami, all the time💗
Linda Jones What a fantastic memory! You are lucky. Thanks for sharing.
@@krimmie1111 ..yep Y-100 i believe was the radio station back then...i grew up in Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton area but i lived in Miami when i got married
Linda Jones they just don’t make em’ like that anymore😢.
I understand EXACTLY what you said, and I completely agree. It made total sense to me. As a musician you understand all of the fine nuances of a piece like this. It is ALL SOUL! It touches your heart, and that VOICE!! Benny passed away this July, 2020, and said often that he hoped his music would touch people in a special way.
It most certainly did. This song just makes your soul fly!! We love you Benny!
Rest in Blessed peace!🙏
It's the intensity that you're feeling. I know what you're saying. This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Such an incredible voice, and one of the nicest guys in show business. He passed away not too long ago. It's sad the song's meaning got lost.
@Mark Ehrlich Yes. His voice makes me so emotional!!!
Beautiful song. Very powerful. His voice. RIP Benny Mardones. You are truely missed by many that loved you.
I've always loved this song. He really has a great voice, doesn't he? So powerful. Thanks.
Benny Mardones lived in an apartment complex. He had a neighbor who was a struggling set creator on broadway. The family had come upon some tough times and had very little. When the father made it big, rather then help out the family he moved off with a 24 year old girl who was in the shows choir. One day the families 3 little kids came up to his door and began to cry, they told Benny that their Dad had left them. Benny told them that they would get through it. Benny created odd jobs for them throughout his apartment. The young boy would run out and get cigarettes for Benny and keep the change from 20$. The one girl would clean Benny's apartment for 50$ a week. The final daughter, 16 years old, would come over in the morning and let Benny's dog out. The 16 year old girl came in when he was writing the song. She came in after a night of writing and she came in to walk his dog. His partner with whom he was writing the song the song said "Oh wow," regarding how good looking she was for a 16 year old. Benny then said said "She's just 16 years old, just leave her alone." Straight from Benny's mouth. It was a great story.
benny grew up in savage maryland with my stepdad.my stepdad said everyone was so happy for him when he released this song.
I still have this album... On vinyl.
I heard him for the first time driving and couldn't believe what I was hearing the song and singer voice put me in a trance it was a angel singing I had to pull over his voice was so majestic and beautiful
This song has a way of taking you back to that magical era of the 80s. His voice is so captivating in this song, and he really belted it out.
Absolutely love your reaction!!
Benny was excellent, totally under rated singer
Thanks for playing this mrm. Please pray for benny. He has been very ill for a long time
I was just 16 years old when this song came out. 👍🏻
I've got a magic carpet, you in?
I was 15 yrs old I loved riding my bike playing street football baseball Still to this day I ❤ this song nobody can't match the last 60 seconds of his voice.😁😁
Me too, and I just realized that yesterday.
Amazing tremendous voice shame he has gone. Always loved it. He never was appreciated my singers in the business. I listen to his song every day while I work gives me so much joy.
The 70s and 80s had some of the best music in my opinion and this music is the music of my childhood and with this music there are many many memories of that childhood. I love when you do this kind of music this is a great song and it's a song that's on my playlist
You got that right...today’s music is trash
RIP Benny Mardones 😞 great voice, great artist 🙏🎵🎶🎤🙏
Benny. You gave the world such great music. RIP
Benny Mar- doe-nez. I know because I was there when it...happened! WOW. I still listen to this song at least once a week. Benny was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000. Despite his illness, he continues to perform to sold-out audiences in central New York, where he retains a notable fan following. On December 16, 2017, Mardones performed "Into the Night" publicly for the last time at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY
This was a great song when you were parking. The girls loved it which by default meant I did. The story behind this song according to Benny (hope I'm remembering it right) was he was helping a family that lived in his apartment building out by lettings her walk his dog. She was leaving one time as his song writing partner was coming in. His friend said who was that and Benny said leave her alone she's only 16. There's a interview vid on CZcams about it.
So glad to see someone finally react to this song. Benny had an amazing voice. Shame a 1 hit wonder
This is honestly a good song for a rainy evening. Heard it a couple times growing up but it wasn't till a couple weeks ago towards the end of a long drive this song came up and the vibe was perfect. Felt like I was in a movie.
Sadly, Benny has been diagnosed with Parkinson's and did his final show in 2018, I believe.
Benny passed away last night
Yes, very sad.
he passed away today.
He just died from Parkinson's a few days ago :'( God Bless Benny Mardones R.I.P.
Long Live the Chilean Benny Mardones!
❤ he was not just a good singer but a really good man who was loved dearly ❤,
I understand everything you said and agree 💯 percent.
Btw, it’s the eldest Bee Gee, known as Barry Gibb, who is the only surviving brother. 😢that sings falsetto and is amazing.
Thank you 😊 for your support of an amazing singer, BENNY, who we lost too soon. 😢 all my love to the memories this song has given me through the years. I was just 14 when it hit the charts. ❤and I still get goosebumps.
I know what you mean when you spoke of the Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel feel. It's as if it puts you in a trance and you forget where you are. Once you know this song there's no way you can not sing along.
RIP Benny Mardones sadly passed on 6-29-2020
Benny was an awesome talent! There will only be one Benny! Rest in peace!
I know EXACTLY what you mean!! I always refer to songs like this one, in the air tonight, etc. as night songs! I was 12 when this song came out. I loved it as much then as I do now! IMO I feel like I grew up with the best decades of music! The 70’s & 80’s!! I love your reactions! Keep ‘em coming!!! 😁
Oh my gosh. This song. I was at high school, I was completely in love with my biology teacher, and it was not a one sided thing. But, he was a gentleman and honourable, and nothing ever happened. But this song! It was like an anthem to everyone in love with an older man. Many years later, he ran into my mother, and they went for coffee. He asked her if he could court me. Literally those words. I was still a bit hung up on him. But, I was also dealing with a mental health issue I still have, and I was not ready for anything like that. So it never happened. But in my heart, we will always have that special, innocent connection. Im aware I’m lucky that it was someone like him, and not someone who would have taken advantage of the situation. This song gets to me because of my memories, and the incredible emotion in Benny’s work. It’s the feel of it, exactly. ❤️
That dude had soul. His voice delivery and lyrics sick
This song is about a man helping a girl whose parents left her. He was not a perv. Benny is a wonderful person. By the was he is very ill with parkiinsons disease for about 20 yeàrs so pray for him.
"Her parents left her", what does that even mean? Like Macaulay Culkin?
Look up a story about the song. What the hell are you talking about macauly calkin for?
TRUTH MISUNDERSTOOD SONG
GREAT MAN-heart of gold
But in the video he kissing her lol don’t get me wrong I love the song but that’s pretty suspicious to me 🤷🏿♂️
RIP to a unique voice! Very hard song to sing. Goosebumps worthy
Benny Mardones' father is from Chile!!! Great Voice and origin.
Interesting
Benny is an absolute LEGEND in Central NY where I grew up. I saw him 3 times in concerts at local bars and clubs around the area. He was absolutely fabulous live.
If you want his quintessential song, that would be "Sheila C". It is the song he would end EVERY concert with and is the song he is known by in Central NY. czcams.com/video/Q9tH5Hm92f0/video.html
The Voice of Syracuse
Actually hit the charts 3 times, in the 90's also. The vocals at the end were intended to be sax solo. When Benny was in the studio teaching the others the song he was singing the sax part, the producers liked his voice so much they dropped the sax.
Benny died on 6-29-20 with no mention that I heard. Beautiful song.
It was covered on local NY stations.
I guess you had to have been around in the 70's 80's having an older boyfriend was no big thing but the censors were zealous and prudish i love this song 💜
This is a great driving song. Love at first hear. His voice is elite, kind of sounds like the late Jimi Jamison of Surviver. Love that style, very 80s.
Brett you should check out some of Jimi Jamisons earlier bands Target and Cobra he was legend in Memphis.
The drummer, just wow.
OH
MY
GAWWWWWD
Being a high school girl when this came out made you absolutely swooon and cry.
Saw him in a concert in Hawaii... will never forget it!!!
That voice... incredible. Just incredible. ❤
what you are feeling is the vibe of the 80's baby!!!
Brought to you by 70s performers!
Benny was incredible! This song was played by me many times! Goodbye tio
I remember this song. I love his voice.
I LOVE seeing and hearing reactions from those who have never heard the song or the artist. Benny's voice was deacribed as "otherworldly" at the end of the song. Record exec, Tommy Mottola, stated Benny had one of the BEST voices he had ever heard. This song charted twice in two seperate decades, the 70s and again in the early-mid 80s. It was, is, and always will be one of the greatest songs in history fir me. Thanks for covering it❤
this is right up there with my favorites of all time, he sure sang the heck out of it, thank you.
Thank U for playing this song. This song is one of the songs that I put for U to play Ty. This song is my Aunt Arminda's favorite song. Anytime she comes over my house or we all get together as a fam, we play ole skoool music. Thanks again Ty for putting this song.
A great...artist, writer and incomparable SINGER - this man stood up for his beliefs, delivering a majestic MASTERPIECE for all time!
I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.... songs that you listen to at night while driving!
YES!!! I have never heard anyone else make that correlation before!
I have been listening to this song since I was 9. Sadly, Benny Mardones passed away today. In looking at his video, I stumbled onto your sight as well as JBLethal’s reaction.
Major respect to both of you for exploring all types of music!!!! I will definitely be watching more of your videos!! Take care 😊
What a beautiful song.
Love it ,beautiful Ballad , the music and lyrics are fantastic ,Nobody do now . from Toronto Canada .
hey bro, I'm a 66 year old old school white guy who came across your channel while doing a search on this song. I've since watched dozens of your reaction vidoes as well as well as many others. I gotta say yours is the best. I see you have done a lot of Eric Clapton's songs but I haven't seen you do Claptons biggest early hit when he was with the a band called Derek and the Domino's. The name of the song is Layla. The guitar solo will blow you away. It is fun for me to watch young people react to the songs I grew up with. Songs that were the fabric of our lives. if you do review the song Layla make sure it is not the solo acoustic version but the studio version of Derek and the Dominos ,Layla
Omg, some of the best music ever. Layla will always be awesome. Do you remember the songs Little Wing & I Am Yours? Beyond Layla, Those are 2 of my favorites.
Agree 100%
Duane Allman also.played on it
Layla. Yeah.
Real name; Patty Boyd. Clapton stole George Harrison's wife.
@@mddell58 somewhat of a mis-characterization of how that went down but it sure is one helluva song.
Sadly Benny Madrones died today from his long 20 year battle with Parkinson's. RiP
Rest easy Benny..love you always. Benny was known as The Voice back in the day...
RIP Benny
4:59 always give me the good chills
This song is a song I have never forgotten. THAT impressive...the voice
Yes!!!!!
I still have this album also. I bought it just for that song. I was a young teen and liked older guys so it was kind of exciting.😁 Still remember the video from MTV. Mar-dough-nuss is how it is pronounced.
I was 15 when this song came out and oh how I wished....... he singing with the angels now. Still love him.❤
I love this song! RIP Benny I am gonna miss you! You live in my heart!
Oh yeah I remember this song, I was 23yrs old in 1989. I love the smooth groove to this as well as his voice. If I am remembering correctly this was in a “B” grade romantic movie. Totally agree Ty, this is a great song to play when you are driving at night. Great memories of that time.💕
Agreed with everything you say, this song is just amazing... Takes me back to places where I used to. It is a beautiful song
I was 28 and just graduating from college when this was first released. It was one of those songs that you could get lost in late at night. This Benny was definitely singing from his heart and soul and left everything he had at the mike by the end of the song. It was so mystical, you almost wanted him to lift you up and fly out into the night to live happily ever after and leave all your old life behind. It was clearly an escape. God bless Benny. He blew his big chance in 1980 when fame came around...too many drugs and then he just disappeared. His second release was keyed higher and released in 1989 and once again went to the top of the charts but by then it was too late to have another chance to have a first chance. I always loved his voice. Still he deserved more success than he got.
RIP Benny 1946-2020
Rest in power Benny Mardones 🎇November 9,1946 /June 29,2020 🎤🎧🎬🎹🌠
Loved this and still do- takes me back for sure! Sending love Ty- ❤️🤘🏼✌️
This song was huge (the second go around for sure)!! I was a senior in high school in ‘89, and it was played everywhere, including prom!! Great memories!!! 💁🏻♀️💕💕
I'm still trying to find out WHY it was released twice.
@@trawlins396 he recorded it twice if u notice the second release is rerecorded and it's amazing he was hitting the notes the same way after ten years later
Yes...on a warm summer night...with the windows rolled down or the top rolled down blaring this music on a long drive singing from the top of my lungs!
R.I.P BENNY!!!!
Into the Night was the only song to chart two different times in the '80s by the same artist with the same version.......first in 1980 and again when it was re-released in 1989 - Sadly, Benny Mardones passed away on 29 June - If you're interested in hearing an outstanding cover which Mardones himself thought was fantastic, look up the one that James Durbin & Alex Grossi, both of Quiet Riot and now recording together as The New Strange made not too long ago - It's a great tribute to the original - C
Benny passed away today June 29. Please pray for him and family and friends. Rip Benny.
Thank you Benny beautiful song
Best song E V E R....Love you Benny R I P
RIP Benny Mardones🙏🙏🙏🙏
his voice has always given me chills.
When I lived in Bolivia. This song was on heavy rotation. RIP Benny
I think that Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty would be worth your time to review - it also has that night time groove feel. Maybe Alan Parsons Project's Eye In The Sky, too.
Eye in the sky my absolute favorite song ever , great choices
Right Down The Line- Gerry Rafferty!
That's what I was thinking
This song always reminded me of Steve Perry singing "Foolish Heart" so when I was a kid/teen in the 80s, I thought this was Perry.
Well to me , Baker street is a late afternoon song, it has that day ending feel to it, but thats just me.
A great song from the 80s 👍💚not crazy about the video, kind of disturbing reminds you of a dirty old man 😂 but I love Benny Mardones voice 💚
this song was written after his neighbor's daughter came in to walk his dog. This he paid her to do and paid her brother to go to the store for him. They were abandoned by their father when he got rich and didn't want his family any longer. Benny was paying it forward by helping the family. He and his band had been up all night working on some songs and one of his band members said something about the young lady and Benny told him to leave her alone, she is only 16 years old. He wrote the song in minutes and the rest is history.
Wow! Thank you for the insight 👍 sad story but such a gem of a song it inspired 😁 I'm a Benny Mardone fan 💖
@Dahoss I believe so 😞
@Dahoss Not my job to judge him, but I traveled with the band for eight or nine months in 1989 when they revamped their career. I drove a semi with their equipment and eat two or three meals a day with them and got to know them pretty well. Not once did I feel these guys were any different than regular guys that look at lovely ladies young and old. You must know that a video is about as fake as the news and there is always many people around doing their job. It's not like they were alone, if the young lady in the video was under age. Just saying and no I was not star struck.
He said the song was about when he was around the same age when he liked the girl. They actually made the song long after
A late night groove.
I think the last name is pronounced like a Latin name Mardonez, but has an s in it instead of a z. This was a balled that teenaged girls related to when their parents didn't approve of their boyfriend. I was (I think) in 6th grade when this was out.
Best one hit wonder of all time!
RIP Benny!!!
Benny Mardones the adopted son of Syracuse New York he used to play here all the time actually I think he lived here for a while the song was on the radio nonstop all the time in the early 80s here in Syracuse thanks for checking that out brought back some memories
I think I was 14(?) When this came out. I lived in South Carolina and the radio station refused to play it. Said it was inappropriate. I freaking lived the song.
What a song! i was in about 8th grade... They wore that one out on the radio!
Very emotional.!
Benny Mardones could sing the arse off Phil Collins, and many other so called big name male vocalists of the day...such a shame he never got the recognition he deserved. Theres a video on You Tube of his final performance of this song, and although you could tell he was pretty ill,he still had those soaring vocals to pull this song off ! Sadly missed...
Braughhhhhhhhh !!!! OUTTA 200+ tunes I jam to THIS SONG is THE ONE I Always sing most !!!! And "REASONS" !!!!! I feel ya !!!!
Benny has a wicked voice, but the video is to this song is something to behold.
When this song first came out in 1980. And hearing it alot that year, I knew this little girl and I took her around my house where we had these Flowers growing next to our Dining room window and looked to the grass below and told her that "This is the love I want to show you, this our Love". I of course was trying to say what the song was saying. Which was " I'd take you into the Night and show you a love". HAHAHA. Fun days.
