Originally built as a bank in 1905, The Bowmont is known as ‘Federation Free Style’ in its design. An architectural term used to describe commercial buildings that adapted the Federation style of residential homes to larger buildings, without being constrained by rules or classical elements.
This heritage building has experienced many faces over the years, first a bank, then a maternity hospital - becoming the birthplace for roughly 3000 babies in the late 40s to the 60s. The old delivery room is now the kitchen, while the cold security of the former bank vault has become the perfect pantry. The late 90s saw the building turn into government offices which led to less desirable features such as fluorescent lights littered across the ceiling. After a few short-lived tenants and years of neglect, in 2019 it took on a new life as a much-loved family home.

Very nice colors and style; I love vintage, but this is not overly crowded as that look can be. The arched windows are beautiful, and each room definitely cozy with a fireplace.

I first met my future husband there in the 1980’s during a training course 😂 I too loved that antique shop, I have a few beloved items that were purchased there…
