My theory for why Mario music helps us focus is this:
A lot of Mario games require focus in later levels. This music is what we hear when we're playing these intense levels so our minds associate it with needing to focus, therefore actually making us focus when hearing it even if we're not playing any levels.

no, it's similar but what happens is that the music is made to make you spend more time in the game, therefore the music is made to make you focus, that's why it works, if we followed your guess the music wouldn't work with people who haven't played mario before, since the brain would need to have played before to make the association of mario music=focus

Its because video game music, like Pokemon, Mario, and Mario Kart, for example are specifically made for you to feel more focused at the game, in turn making you want to play more and be less distracted by the outside. I highly recommend Coconut Mall from Mario Kart or Driftveil City from Pokemon Black to keep you focused

I´m in my 60´s and this is much better than cocaine it got me in my boxers dancing and humming along to the beat. My dogs were so scared I thought they were gonna die, but atleast I had fun. I have not had fun in over 30 years

i just want to say how much i like this music and thank you for such a great compilation. Some of the games/levels I was not familiar with but they are very pleasant to hear. And the ones from games I did play - wow - instantly transported to being a kid, sitting too close to the tv and playing certain levels and just having fun - and that made me feel good. thank you. You know what I use this music for? I pick a task I know will take several hours (gardening/heavy house cleaning/painting walls and doors/cooking for the week etc) and put the music on. When the music stops, 5 hours up and I stop too. It makes the time fly.
