    Oh my goodness, we own something very similar to that but luckily it is in excellent condition with all of the workings still inside the radio. My husband inherited it.

      Ross mentioned in the beginning that the owner had taken out the guts of the radio and speaker before bringing it to him. It is beautiful.

      the radio slides in and the speaker just hangs on hooks , likely just going to be for show

    Looks totally amazing. Great job.
    I find that the best place for radio speaker cloth is an upholstery shop. A lot of sofa and chair colors look just like old radios. And their scrap bin always has pieces larger than I need. I will usually bring them back a box of pastries or some treat for thanks.

    Very well done Ross, i love the fact that you went with original shellac finish. I'm working on a 1937 RCA-Victor 87-K at the moment which needs about the same work except the top didn't need to be totally replaced just a few pieces of veneer to transplant in place, i was lucky enough to have a similar scrapped cabinet i could take the veneer from though. Thank's for sharing, be well.

    Your furniture restoration work is amazing. I think about recommending your channel to a friend who works with the maintenance of old radios and he has a radio from the 50s, but without the box that protected it, in this case it could fit inside the furniture. But I was surprised to learn that they still manufacture the speaker protection screens, due to the lack of specific material here, we use fabrics to cover upholstery. Now about the original speaker, I'm thinking because, at least here in Brazil, large-size low-impedance speakers (characteristic of short-wave and medium-wave radios) were no longer manufactured in the 1980s. get a recovery from this radio.

    Incredible transformation! A question, on the trim are you using a dye base or semi-transparent stain ? I am restoring a Philco bullet and am looking for guidance on adding some contrast in the trim. I think in my case the trim is popular, it has little grain.

    Very nice. I did something similar last year only it was a record player cabinet from the same era. Mine wasn't in as bad of shape, but yours turned out much nicer. The difference between an artist, and one that isn't I guess. I thought that grill was pretty damaged, and it looks beautiful. The lighter fabric really makes the grill pop. I suppose you could have dyed the fabric?

  • @ccrm10

    Cabinet is beautiful. Can’t say I like the light tan acoustic fiber though. I think it jumps out at you too much. Did the client OK it?

  • @donnaml8776
    @donnaml8776 Před 3 lety

    It’s beautiful. Well done! I was just thinking how I hadn’t seen a video from you in some time. Good to hear that you’re busy even if we aren’t seeing videos, but miss seeing your videos. Hope you’ll be posting more soon.
    I’m glad the owner still HAS the RADIO AND SPEAKER. It amazes me how many assume because you don’t have the insides (the radio and speaker) that they think that they don’t exists, even though you said that the owner has them.
    I would of preferred a darker speaker material but as you included the original material in the cabinet and also as you mentioned they can still replace it. I’m curious can that material be dyed. I know that it would be a lot of work and would be easier to just order it but can it be dyed just the same?
    Thanks for posting, hope to see more videos soon!
