  • Remove PTO Shaft To Replace Seal On A Ford 2000 Tractor. Videos show how I removed the PTO Shaft on a Ford 2000 tractor to replace the seal. The original seal in the tractor did not look like the seal I bought. Did not replace the seal. Have to do more research and find the correct seal.

Great clip. I especially loved the part where you prepared us for the dropping of the shaft into the sand. I'll try to remember that when I remove mine for the first time lol.

Hey Bill!I just today replaced my PTO seal and a word to the wise put a large tub under the PTO shaft to catch fluid. I elevated the rear of my Ford 3000 but it was not enough, guess what happened. You can not put the shaft back in quickly, no way. So once out disassembly was easy after removing the retaining clip. Long end up just drop the PTO shaft down on a piece of wood and the housing comes right off the bearing pretty easy. The replacement seal you got that looks different is good to go just looks different, same part number. The side with the seal spring goes to the inside. The seal removal and installation tools work great to remove and install the seal. Remove the seal from the inside out and install from the outside in. To reinstall the shaft I used a piece of PVC over the output end to get the leverage needed to fit the long end inside. With the PVC pipe over the output side it went in on the second try. Without the PVC pipe for leverage I bet it was a real pain in the rear to get the splines to line up. Easy peasy lemon squeeze Bill thanks for your video. :)

Great! maybe I should have used a piece of PVC. But It wasn't too hard to slide it in. Thanks for the info "Easy peasy lemon squeeze". I like it. Thx for watching.

Chief, if you have a New Holland dealership near by, you can get parts for any of the old Ford tractors from them. New Holland bought the agriculture equipment division of Ford years ago and they still supply parts for them.

I broke the PTO shaft on my tractor. Trying to figure out what year it is so I can order the right replacement. My tractor looks completely identical to yours. What year is your's? Can't seem to locate a SN on the thing. thanks

We have an older model 160 Allis Chalmers, there apparently weren't too many of these around. The PTO shaft seal is leaking and we want to change it but don't want to start until we maybe can get some advice from someone who has done this before. My hubby is retired and spent his life in the mechanical field so will be able to follow the instructions okay. If you have any advice or ideas we would be glad to read them. Thanks in advance.

I am new to old tractor repair. Don't take what I do as instruction it's meant to be entertainment.. I am not a professional. What I do is my best guess on how to do it. There is so little information on old tractor repair. I post these videos showing how I did the job. I am not sure if I am doing it wrong or Right? But someone might get something of value from the video. Thank you and thx for watching.

Thanks, ours is a bit different than the Ford as it seems, according to the schematic, we will have to
split the tractor to remove a nut and gear to allow us to pull the shaft out the rear. If you do hear of
anything that might help with our Allis Chalmers Model 160 we will be glad to get your into. Norah

I am not sure where you are in Florida. If you are near Ocala, you can try Ocala Tractor LLC. I think they are a New Holland dealership. I hope this helps.

No. I did engage the PTO before I removed the PTO shaft, and tied the handle to make sure it stayed engaged. Thanks for watching.

That's not a shim sir, it's a gasket and you need to get a new one or it will leak, they are cheap, just sayin.

needle nose to remove the retaining ring huh? Not as easy as you say. I would have loved to see on video you using needle nose pliers to remove that snap ring. I spent an hour fiddle farting trying to get that dang thing out. I ended up taking the shaft and new seal to a local implement dealer and had them change the seal for me. Folks its harder to remove that snap ring than you realize. Good luck

I have took a cheap HF extra large pair of needle nose with the 90 degree handle and ground down the tips just enough to be able to remove large 3 or 4” internal style snap rings
