The video for this came out right around the time the VH1 channel was taking off and providing music/videos for an older demographic. Level 42 got TONS of airplay on VH1, and almost none on MTV (where you'd find New Kids On The Block or New Edition).

This song is so good. I was born in 82 and all the songs I liked as a child stuck with me. Especially in the crazy times I live in now at 40... I'd give anything to go back to the 80s as an adult.. Time flies.. Once I hit 30, time felt like it hit warp speed.. Summer vacations felt like they lasted years.. Now a year feels like 3 months.. Crazy..

Marketing pictures and videos aside, Level 42 actually came out of the Fusion Jazz genre and were all excellent musicians. Mark King did most of the lead vocals and was the bassist...if you watch some of their live performances (Jazz festival from 2010, for example) you can see he was doing an amazing job with very busy bass lines and vocals.

Boy band? LOL. Not in the slightest all of them are very proficient with musical instruments. Mark King is a world class bassist. The boy band term was coined in the 90's (and girl band) for hired singers in a group.

Just don't get the boy band
Saw another American reaction video say exactly the same thing. Even if Id just heard them and never seen them, I wouldn't think they were a boy band.
If you have the time, check them videos of them live, then you'll see they were the furthest thing from a boy band and had one of the best bassists ever - Mark King.
