- Romain Haguenauer has had a long coaching history in the discipline of ice dance. The champion-making coach and choreographer has been coaching top dance teams since his career ended in 1997. After teaming up with Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon in 2014, he has coached Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron to four world titles, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir to two gold medals at the 2018 Olympic Games, and more recently, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha to gold at the 2019 World Junior Figure Skating Championships. I recently had a chance to chat with Romain and learn about his career, his coaching style, common criticisms, and how he feels his teams are progressing this off season.

I really liked this interview. He genuinely cares about the teams and it shows. People like Hagenahuer, who are so comitted and with such a high standard of professionalism, are a real gift.
I find it hard not to look at Papadakis...amazingly graceful skater. What a lovely conversation between two pleasant sympathetic guys. 👍
Wow he is so different to what I expected! He always seems so serious and reserved on camera when he’s with his teams in the kiss and cry, but he was so chatty and animated in this interview.

Thanks for this great Interview. I loved how Hugenauer descibed Gabi beeing as strong as Guillaume in skting. Guillaue is so extraordinary beautiful as a guy and as a skater, but Gabi also is such a great and extaordinary strong and fascinating and beautiful young women and skater, no doubt in that. Totally misjudged this book. I always assumed that Romain was the most "remote" or "mysterious" member of the team. This is by far the most straightforward of the interviews. I think we would have gotten a much less honest answer to the Hubbell and Donohue program from others, for example.
