Hey friends! I'm back today with my first Cruelty Free tutorial! To the best of my knowledge, all the brands used are cruelty free.
Would love some suggestions for other brands to check out and include in future videos :)
Hope you enjoy the video, lots of love!

Hey GIRL! Great video girl!!!! You're right, there is a grey area for cruelty-free/vegan makeup for sure. Cruelty-free just means that it was not tested on animals, but can still contain beeswax, etc. (personally I do'nt think they should be able to say cruelty free if they contain animal products, but that's just me).
There is a huge difference between company/brand and product. for example....If a company is labelled as cruelty-free, but is sold in China, it should not be considered CF because they as a company do not stand against animal testing, since legally it is a must to retail in China. They may however have products that do not contain animals products, or test on them in certain countries. Morally, it's really up to each person individually. For example, I personally do not buy any product that is sold in China because I prefer not to support the cruel act of animal testing. But someone else may be okay with the fact that maybe they just test in China but not in North America, and their $$ is spent in North America when they buy that product.
It's tough, and people in the vegan community tend to be really hard on us, but any step in the right direction is okay with me, and trying should be enough :) Thanks so much for doing CF tutorials! I'll make sure to share them with my community!!! xo
+Edgy Veg I love watching your videos! Everyone should tots check you out, vegan or not :)
Uni Limon Thanks so much for the love girl!!! xoxoxo
You are not being ignorant at all. Especially when you are new to some things its so hard to tell whats what. In my experience I am new to going organic and especially here in America it is hard to tell what is truly organic. Love watching you. Have an awesome day
+Jenn Brandon Thanks so much Jenn! I appreciate the comment xx
I'm so obsessed with your septum piercing. I don't think i've ever seen anyone pull it off as well as you do!!
+Kait Nichole Thanks beautiful! I enjoy it too :P
Your skin tho! 😍😍
You should do a video like this.
+Teni Panosian It's FINALLY settling down!!! AHHHH!!! :D
Arbonne is cruelty free, vegan, gluten free, and chemical free. Really great products!
Ps love your vlogs & snapchat
+amb3rleigh great company!! im a district manager with them and completely fell in love with their products!!
+Lorna-Marie Smith Don't arbonne products contain untraceable palm oil?
+Anni Cronin Arbonne actually gets their palm oil from RSPO (Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil) which is an organization created a decade ago and is the world’s leading initiative on sustainable palm derived ingredients are environmentally friendly production of this valuable resource. Where possible, they will use alternatives such as Coconut oil, etc. RSPO is currently making sure where they get their palm deerived ingredients is sustainable sources, which is a length process unfortunately. Arbonne is cruelty free and vegan, and we want to help protect the forests as well so they are pouring time and resources into making sure we are the most safe, pure and beneficial company :) I hope this helps!! :)
why isn't it featured on PETA ?
The main thing I love about this video is you don't pretend to know everything because you read the peta website and that you are always wanting to know more and hear everyone's suggestions. Such a beautiful way to live your life!
it's like every time i think you couldn't get any more amazing, you do! this is so awesome and not something i see often at all in the beauty community.
BRANDS THAT DON'T TEST ON ANIMALS AND HAVE LOTS OF VEGAN PRODUCTS: elf, chi chi, NYX (you've still gotta check), Australis, arbonne, innoxa, BYS (not the best quality but still!), nude by nature, essence, physicians formula and even ABH. Most of the products by these brands are vegan but you've still got to look out for mainly beeswax/Cera Alba and colours such as 120 (red) and carmine, etc. :)
yay! Welcome to the cruelty-free beauty life! Love it
+Kristen Leanne Definitely am going to make more of an effort with it - not every video will be, but making a change starts somewhere :) Love your videos xx
I love how straight up you are. It may sound weird but i love when people admit to their ignorance. That word has such a negative connotation but it's just lack of knowledge. So thank you for being real as fuck and honest to all points. You rock!!
Cruelty free makeup basically means the product hasn't been tested on animals at all, not during manufacture or as a finished product. It also means the item is made with ingredients that weren't tested on animals by third party company. However, it can include animal products. Vegan makeup is completely cruelty free and doesn't contain animal products. The easiest way to spot a cruelty free makeup item is to look for the Leaping Bunny logo. Vegan makeup is harder to identify and you'd probably have to look on the PETA website or e-mail the company. Hope this helped :)
This is such an amazing idea! Would love to see more cruelty free ♡♡♡
Yes
Yes!!! Would love to see more cruelty free videos :)
The biggest difference between cruelty free and vegan is red pigments. It's really common for red pigments to come from carmine which is derived from beetle shells (shell? Husk? Exoskeleton?) Rhian Hy (WifeLife) is vegan and uses all vegan products in her tutorials.
Hey Karissa. Great video! Cruelty free tutorials are so needed on CZcams!
I asked a similar question whilst at Sephora recently regarding a product being marketed as 'cruelty free' but not vegan. I was informed by one of the lovely girls working there that the product I was enquiring about was cruelty free but not vegan as it contained slug (yup slug!) mucous which is collected in a cruelty free way. Basically the slugs slither around on silk leaving their trails which are then collected and added to the makeup product, so no harm to the little slugs what so ever. But obviously because it contains an animal derivative it does not meet vegan requirements.
Smile lots xx
your brows be looking real sharp😍 thanks for introducing this kind of makeup to me!!
Seeing your dog made me so happy. For my first Christmas my parents bought me a chihuahua that looks exactly like yours. She turned 16 this past September and she passed away last week. I miss her dearly and seeing your chihuahua made me smile.
When you look up brands that are cruelty free and realize that every single makeup you own is all cruelty free!! YASSS!!
do more tutorials like this! i love these!
also the look looks amazing!
love you!
xx
Woohoo! So excited for this!
You're so naturally gorgeous!!
You seem so happy and playful in this video I love it! You looked so lovely and glowy too ☺️💕 x
I'm in the process of going vegetarian so I'd like to use more cruelty free makeup but im a little in the dark about the logistics of it too, like one thing im not too sure about is if a company can still be considered cruelty free if their parent company isn't. like urban decay for example is cruelty free but they're owned by loreal, which isn't.
+Brittani Cluett its all a matter of your opinion and morals I suppose! im strictly cruelty free but ill buy from UD bc them themselves dont test. im not supporting the parent company im supporting the cruelty free company which to me shows the parent company that the cruelty free brand will get more business!
***** I will, thanks!
it depends if UD use ingredients that third party companies have tested on animals for them and if they buy ingredients that have already been tested on animals !
+Jen Lux that's the way I see it
Yes yes yes! Thank you Karissa I've been waiting for you to do cruelty free tutorials
This Is so stunning!

Its so nice to see you filming in such a good mood :)
It's actually really refreshing to know that a lot of popular brands are cruelty free! It's not something I'm dedicated to, but it's great to know that the products I use, majority of, are cruelty free. Love this look also! I can't wait for more. Especially the vegan brands x

I love this makeup look on you! You look stunning😍
Nars itself doesn't test on animals but it's actually owned by Shiseido that does test on animals, so technically it's not vegan or cruelty free. They also use and buy products that other companies have tested on animals. This happens to a lot of brands where they claim to not test on animals yet their parental company (the company that owns them) does or they use products that have been tested on animals. The difference between a Cruelty Free product and a Vegan product is that the Cruelty Free one doesn't test on animals during the process of making the product of use ingredients that have been tested on animals, but some of their products may include beeswax and lanolin (it's a fatty substance found on the sheep's wool). Vegan products don't include animal products at all and don't test on animals or use ingredients that have been tested on them before!! You can use this website to see what's vegan and cruelty free features.peta.org/cruelty-free-company-search/index.aspx hope this helped you :)
+anna bhatia It depends on how you look at it. Personally I think that it's cruelty free because it itself does not test. By purchasing, it's showing the parent company that dollars are going to a cruelty free brand and hopefully it changes the way they operate the parent company. Brands shouldn't be punished for doing the right thing just because they were acquired by a larger company.
+Karissa Pukas that's true! I still purchase from the company but then again they do purchase ingredients that have been tested on animals so it's directly relating back not being cruelty free as the ingredients inside of the actual product have in fact been tested on animals! just to clear things up for people who are strictly for cruelty free and vegan products
+Karissa Pukas I think that a product or a company should NOT call themselves "cruelty free" if they use ingredients which had been tested on animals (even if they don't do it - in order to get this end-product some animals had to suffer) and the parent company could not care less, they just want to see more profit no matter which brand it is, so they can cover up their target group (the ones that care about "cruelty free" and the ones that don't ) it is a win win for the parent company. Nevertheless for me it is not cruelty free even if they do not test, some other companies tested some of the ingredients :(
this is awesome! we definitely need more of this on youtube! :)
