I am 43 y.o 100 kg-heavy guy who never surfed before. I watched this video and was able to stand up and ride within an hour. Thank you very much.
Awesome review ! Did you skateboard before age 43 ?
Sad
The “back foot first then place front foot between hands” tip is really helpful!! Thanks lots! 💗💗
Your supposed to put your front foot first
This helped me too!
That part confused me... if you're right handed, which foot is the back foot and vice versa, and which one goes best naturally with whichever way you're 'handed'?
@@vlexifyeditz3463 uiuuyuuuyuuuyrrrrtyttrt0dtyttttrtttrtt4r3😁😉😗😉🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃😄😄😁😁🙃☺
@@scottporter4524 I’m personally right handed and my back foot is my right foot. You’re back foot should be the foot that your leash is attached to. I think one way to find your back foot is to consider what foot you would kick a soccer ball with. There’s different ways of figuring this out though.
I must say, these videos are very well produced. Thank you for caring!
This is exactly how I learned when I first surfed. Totally works!
why am i watching this i live in London the closest body of water is the Thames 😭
Get yourself down to Cornwall. Lots of beaches to choose from
I live in London, Canada. The closest body of water is also the Thames River lol. I won't get the opportunity to surf ever in my life😩
Emily Sun wait there’s a london in Canada omds i never knew that 😭
@@kaelynoai Yup yup
London is a beautiful city, nothing to be sad about at all.
I really enjoy the swimming pool and the surfboard really great idea and also on lakes 💓
Great tips thanks! I was doing at least half of the "Not to do" things. Can't wait to get out again and try these new tips. Feel a good day coming on. keep it up!
How is your surfing going
@@lucyclarckson9845 great thanks, couple of years since I left this comment so pop up is pretty good now. Getting out 2-3 days a week. How about you?
Was surfing since 1998 then went into hiatus due to covid and duty calls, now i’m back and at my age (59) prefer to go back to basics, your video has been a great help keep it up 🤙👍
3rd day of surfing and I watch and studied this and was successful today. One thing I learned is that this helps A LOT while learning to catch the waves. Awesome vid. I can say that this vid helped me stood up successfully.
Thanks for your feedback, thats awesome.
Barefoot Surf hello, how do you properly turn your board while paddling? I want to catch the wave but it was hard to maneuver the surfboard facing the beach.
I just started surfing and 2:07 helped me the most.
Glad to see someone else is horny on main.
2:07 cured my erectile dysfunction.
The knees takeoff works way better for me because the take off on my local break is usually bumpy because of alot of chops so being low on my knees holding the rails with both hands allows me to complete longer rides since I don't fall off as much at the start and can stand up and complete the rest of the wave. While most other surfers are falling down all around me they don't know about the knees technique. 😊
Barefoot is where dreams come true...thank you for everything 🌊💛 Those videos are really helpful to improve the technique!
Just spent 3 hrs on the beach in Cornwall. Was told to go on my knees and then stand up. Didn’t get off my knees once. Your method makes more sense. Will have another go tomorrow.
first learnt to Surf when i was 18 had a 6 footer Short Board, now getting back in to it again at 51 either a 6ft or 9ft.. whoop..whoop.. my Sport last 20 plus years Windsurfer
I'll keep that in mind! 🌊🏄🏻♀️
I moved to the surfing area in japan, tomorrow is my first day surfing thank you for this lesson
How was it?
@@kattodoggo3868 we will never know
Four years since then. How has it been?
This was super helpful! I’m going surfing at the beach this weekend and I’m excited. The initial movement of the back foot gives me confidence I won’t keep falling!
Short and sweet. I've watched a dozen videos thus far on standing up on the surfboard and this one is by far the best.
Traveled with Barefoot in 2017. Naomi is the best !
After lots of nose diving trying to stand up this will definitely be useful next time I'm on the water
Please do more videos like this! I love the tutorials you have been doing lately! You defiantly deserve more subs!
Thanks for the kind words @Andraya. Stay tuned, more Tutorials coming up.
I love it when I find long lost relatives on CZcams. Especially ones into surfing. :D :D :D
@@barefoot_surf your technique is false , this video is wrong ;; teach people bad habits : some can stand up in one time this is only a method for non fit persons , and for long terme wont work in serious waves , even you i suppose you doing it different
@@ucpaimessouane2475 Yes of course. We intentionally named this video "Beginner Take Off Technique". This is a take off technique that we sometimes use to teach beginners during their first days in either white water or very small waves, as it prevents the bad habit of using the knees. We have 3 take off techniques used for different skill levels and conditions. As you probably already know, not every beginner is able to do a "perfect pop up in 1 motion only" during their first days.
Reminds me such wonderful memories...A year ago already..! Time passes by so fast... Unforgettable trip thanks to you guys!
I can't tell you how helpful your videos and Instagram posts are to me. I'm 35 and juuuust beginning to take surfing lessons, and all the information you give is amazing! thanks thanks thanks!
This video was insanely helpful! I just started learning how to surf today and struggled with the pop up. Seeing it in action is super helpful!
I'm 48 and took my 1st surf lessons in Puerto Rico this summer. My instructor said everything you posted here. I was able to get up on the board for a bit. Can't wait to go again.
Learned from you 3 years ago, and this is a beautiful video reminder!
Can’t believe no one has mentioned bringing in the back foot first it makes so much sense now, going to give it a try 👍
Ótima explicação!
Parabéns!
Thank you for breaking this down! I am struggling with the pop up even on dry land so I will try this and see if I find it easier
This definitely helped me! Thank you so much 💓💗

Thank you very much .Beautiful and slow images . Very clear !

done thousands of these but 'forgot' due to lack of water time (surgeries, etc) Didnt realive "bringing the back foot forward" first and then the front foot was my problem. Going ot paddle out in the morning and practice this, I know it will work....
This is the most helpful video I've watched. Thank you!
Excellent guide pour les débutants !
Thanks so much, super helpful n will try it next time I’m out in the water. Been having trouble with my pop up for a while.

Very helpful guys! Can't wait to book a trip with you 🏄
Well crap. I was grabbing my rails AND trying to get up on my knees first yesterday trying to copy the shortboard surfers around me. I did quite a few summersaults. Thanks for the video, I've subscribed. :)
Excellent guide!
I finally stood up today after watching this video. I will continue to practice with this technique. Thank you!
Superbe video!! Vraiment pratique quand on débute
!
Super helpful and definitely recommend Barefoot if you wanna learn to surf !
I’m going to try this when I go surfing (or try to again, lol) tomorrow! Thank you. I’ve been struggling to pop up a lot😂 Doing a lot of yoga and push ups to prepare but haven’t seen the technique broken down like this before
2:41 and 2:99 would be the most important advice. I didn't really start to ride the wave until I did this during my pop up. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing @craig ! Keep it up
I would love to try that soon!!!!
Thanks for the videos !
Love it! Great video. Just did a trip with you all and coming back for another one! Naomi you're a rock star! Greg
